Vincent D'Onofrio reveals what he is still learning about Kingpin after 10 years

The release of Daredevil: Born Again earlier this year almost exactly matched the 10th anniversary of the original Daredevil show's premiere on Netflix. But even after a decade of playing supervillain Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, Vincent D'Onofrio is still learning things about his character 'every day.' 'As an actor, every day you go to work, something new happens,' D'Onofrio tells Gold Derby during a brief break from filming Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. 'You either fail and learn something from that, or you succeed and learn something from that. And throughout the day, both things can happen. So, yeah, I'm totally, constantly learning about Fisk and about how to execute the character. That never stops, it's continuous.' More from GoldDerby 'Difficult times,' 'screaming matches,' and 'abandonment': David Duchovny and Chris Carter rehash their drama on 'The X-Files' Emma D'Arcy takes a break from filming 'House of the Dragon' Season 3 to talk riding dragons, 'Westerosi jet lag,' and Season 2's 'momentous' moments Jason Schwartzman on the breakneck 'Mountainhead' production: 'I've never done anything like it in my life' Of course, it helps to have new material to play, and Season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again put both D'Onofrio and his character in a whole new place after Fisk successfully ran for mayor of New York City. During a rare meet-up with his rival Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) in the premiere episode, Fisk promised that he was done with his criminal ways and ready to be an upright politician. But D'Onofrio knew that things wouldn't go that way, even if his character didn't. 'You can't take these characters and then suddenly turn them into good people, or even less complicated people,' D'Onofrio says. 'I knew that the idea of putting him in the light and having him run for mayor was going to cause a lot of frustration and a lot of struggle for that character. As the actor, I knew that it would never work out. I even felt that putting him in those situations were some of the most difficult things to play. To put a broken person, who really belongs in the dark, in the light is an interesting choice. As the actor, I could feel the frustration of it. I didn't like it myself, but it was good to play it that way.' But despite Fisk's new office, there's also plenty of continuity in the form of his wife, Vanessa Fisk. Though Sandrine Holt was originally cast to play Vanessa during the first attempt at Daredevil: Born Again, after the show's creative revamp the role was recast with Ayelet Zurer (who had played Vanessa on the original Daredevil series), and she and D'Onofrio picked up where they left off. 'Ayelet Zurer is an amazing actress,' D'Onofrio says. 'I've known her for years now, we're very close friends, and to work with her is incredible. Vanessa helps a lot to tell Wilson Fisk's story, like it did in the comics years ago. It defines who he is as a man, not just as a villain.' Vanessa is her husband's moral compass, but not in a good way. During the time he's been absent from New York City (depicted in the Disney+ series Echo), Vanessa took control of his criminal empire, and she's the one who helps him re-embrace his Kingpin side even after becoming mayor. 'Whenever you show somebody that's supposedly a bad guy and you humanize him, it's more scary for everybody,' D'Onofrio says. 'So we did whatever we could in the first season to humanize Fisk, to make sure that people understood that he was a man who didn't consider himself to be a villain, but that the actor who plays him considers him to be broken.' Criminal mayors are not relegated solely to the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Eric Adams, the real-life mayor of New York City, was indicted last year on criminal corruption charges from the FBI. 'I don't have any interest in all that,' D'Onofrio says. 'I have my own personal views about all that, but I don't connect those to the show in any way. I think other people may or may not, that's up to them, but I've been playing this character a long time now, and I'm on that track. I'm on that evolution of the character. If it's somehow, in some uncanny way, following what's going on out there in the world, then I guess that's all the better for everybody. That means it's good storytelling, and if people are getting pissed about it or happy about it, that's good storytelling.' Season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again is streaming now on Disney+. Best of GoldDerby Jacob Elordi reveals personal reason for joining 'The Narrow Road to the Deep North': 'It was something important to me' Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez on how the 'Agatha All Along' cast 'became a coven' when recording 'The Ballad of the Witches' Road' Jason Schwartzman on the breakneck 'Mountainhead' production: 'I've never done anything like it in my life' Click here to read the full article.

Krysten Ritter to return as Jessica Jones in ‘Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2

Marvel has officially confirmed that Krysten Ritter will reprise her role as Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. The announcement was made during Disney's Upfront presentation in New York City, putting months of speculation to rest. Ritter, who originally portrayed the hard-edged private investigator in the Netflix series Jessica Jones from 2015 to 2019, expressed excitement about stepping back into the role. 'It is so great to be back,' she said on stage. 'Returning to Jessica after three seasons, and The Defenders, and now joining the MCU — this is going to be an incredible season.' Her return marks another step in Marvel Studios' ongoing integration of Netflix's former Marvel characters into the mainline Marvel Cinematic Universe. Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock, better known as Daredevil, made a high-profile return in Daredevil: Born Again, and Ritter's reappearance brings another fan-favorite into the fold. Season 1 of Born Again concluded with major developments, including Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk, now Mayor of New York, attempting to consolidate power through the Red Hook port. With Matt Murdock back in his red suit and aided by longtime allies Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and Frank Castle, aka The Punisher (Jon Bernthal), the groundwork is laid for further conflict in Season 2. Cox also teased upcoming changes, including finally donning the iconic black Daredevil suit with the 'interlocking Ds' — a detail longtime fans have been awaiting. 'Season 2 is heading in a bold new direction,' he noted. With Ritter's return, Daredevil: Born Again expands its scope, reuniting key characters from Marvel's earlier Netflix era. Season 2 is currently in production.

When Is ‘Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2 Coming Out? Here's The Really Good News

"Daredevil: Born Again" The Season 1 finale of Daredevil: Born Again is now streaming on Disney+. If you've already binged the last episode, you're probably wondering when Season 2 will hit the platform—and the good news is, the wait might be shorter than you think. Daredevil: Born Again is a reboot of Netflix's 2015 Daredevil series, with Charlie Cox reprising his role as Matt Murdock. The original show wrapped its third and final season in October 2018, but Marvel revealed plans for a Disney+ revival during San Diego Comic-Con in 2022. Set six years after the events of Daredevil's third season on Netflix, the action-packed nine episodes follows Murdock, a blind lawyer with heightened abilities who fights for justice at his law firm. He's set on a collision course with former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio), who is pursuing his own political endeavors in New York. All episodes of Season 1 are now streaming on Disney+, including the highly anticipated finale that premiered on April 15. Here's everything you need to know about the next installment, including when Marvel plans to release Season 2, the casts' reactions to the script, who's returning (and joining) the series, and more. "Daredevil: Born Again" Yes, Daredevil: Born Again is officially returning for a second season after receiving an early renewal. As of March 2025, filming is already underway in New York. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige initially announced that the reboot would consist of 18 episodes, but the studio later decided to split the season into two. According to Entertainment Weekly, the first nine episodes became Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, while the remaining episodes will serve as the foundation for Season 2. Showrunner Dario Scardapane confirmed to Collider that Season 2 will consist of eight episodes, one fewer than the first season, which had nine episodes on Disney+. "When I came in and put together the overview of what the first season was going to be, the second season was implied. They are the absolute flip side to each other, which you'll see,' Scardapane explained. 'Without giving too much away, at the very end of the last episode of this season, you essentially see a lot of cards being put out on a table, and season 2 is those cards going into play vigorously and perhaps viciously.' "Daredevil: Born Again" Disney+ has yet to announce an official release date for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, but the series is expected to premiere sometime in 2026. Marvel Studios' Head of Streaming, Brad Winderbaum, told ScreenRant that an annual release is 'the plan,' adding, 'Season 2 will come out next year [2026], and then hopefully season 3 and season infinity after that. I think this world is extremely rich, and there are many stories to be told on the streets of New York.' "Daredevil: Born Again" The synopsis for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 hasn't been released yet. However, Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio—who play Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk—have already read part of the script. In an interview with Collider, they offered a few hints about what fans can expect in the upcoming season. 'I've read six of eight, and honestly—and I don't normally say this kind of thing; I always err on the side of caution—that's some of my favorite stuff I've read of Daredevil,' Cox revealed. He continued, 'We've got Dario Scardapane, who was brought in to pivot the show back at the beginning of 2024, who ended up writing the pilot and the last two episodes of this season that's coming out. What he's done so far with this new season is so cool and so different and so sinister, and I'm really, really excited about it.' D'Onofrio has also read the scripts for the first six episodes and shared that he loves 'where it's going' so far, teasing that the season is shaping up to be both 'emotional' and 'crazy.' 'It's going to be quite something by the end of it, by the end of the next season. By the end of Season 2, there's something quite amazing I feel is going to happen. We've both talked to Dario about the other half of it, but we're not completely clear on it," he continued. D'Onofrio went on, "We haven't read the scripts yet, but they're going to be delivered, and we're going to read them. But I do have an idea of some of the details of what's going to happen midway through and past, and it's intense. It's quite something. Like Charlie just said, I wouldn't say that unless I felt it. It's going to be a lot of work. We have a lot of work ahead of us. It's going to be emotional and full of physical altercations. [Laughs] I don't know what to say, but it's going to be a crazy season.' NEW YORK, NEW YORK - FEBRUARY 24: (L-R) Elias D'Onofrio, Vincent D'Onofrio, Charlie Cox and Samantha ... They'll be joined once again by Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, and Elden Henson, who's reprising his role as Foggy Nelson. Genneya Walton, who plays BB Urich, is also reportedly returning for Season 2. Additionally, Wilson Bethel was spotted on set in April 2025, hinting at the return of his character, Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye. A newcomer joining Season 2 is Lili Taylor, who will reportedly portray 'a political foe for Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk," according to Deadline.
