Wrexham: Heartbreak as father moved 140 miles for treatment
Danny Mendoza from Gresford fears his father might pass away almost three-hours-away and there's absolutely nothing he can do. Bernard Mendoza has dementia, and despite his son's best efforts to care for him, he was moved to the White House Care Home, Wrexham, in February this year. "Taking care of him sent me to breaking point in the end which is why he eventually went into a home", Danny says. "I couldn't do it anymore." Bernard, 83, settled in well to begin with, and his son was able to visit him every day. But eventually, he became aggressive towards members of staff. "Sadly, it's a common trait for those with the condition", Danny explains. After several incidents, Bernard was eventually sectioned under the Mental Health Act and last week he was transferred to the nearest bed in a mental health hospital - St Andrew's Healthcare in Northampton. Danny was distraught with the decision to move him so far away, and claims there's something 'seriously wrong' with the healthcare system if that is his father's best option. "I feel powerless", he said. "How is it that there isn't a single bed available for him in North Wales? "Seeing him for the first time once he'd been moved away from his home and family was heart-breaking. "He's all alone there, and right now he needs the love and support of his family. "And when I first saw him once he'd been moved, he looked like he'd been knocked for six. I was heartbroken. He just didn't look like dad. He could barely walk or hold a conversation with me. It was just so upsetting. "I place so much blame on myself and feel so guilty that this has happened. But now it's all out of my control." Danny says caring for his father since receiving the diagnosis four-years ago is 'the hardest thing' he's ever done. But now he fears he's losing what little time he has left with him, and the complications of transferring him have only made the situation worse. Currently, Danny is able to visit once or twice a week. Travel expenses have imposed further challenges, with a cost of £40 for fuel per trip. "I simply can't afford that", Danny says. "Plus it takes approximately two hours 40 minutes each way in the car. I can get free accommodation once I'm there but this can't be a long term solution." Teresa Owen, executive director of Allied Health Professions and Health Science, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board said: 'I am extremely sorry for the situation Mr Mendoza and his son find themselves in. 'Unfortunately, we work in an extremely pressured system and sometimes we do not have the capacity to admit to our own facilities in complex cases like these. This means we seek appropriate care from private providers. "Sadly, there was no one available to us to provide the type of care Mr Mendoza needed closer to his home, at the time he needed help. MOST READ 'We are in constant contact with those treating Mr Mendoza and are assessing our own capacity daily. We are focused on him receiving the best care and bringing him back home as quickly as possible. 'The Health Board's Mental Health and Learning Disability team in the east currently has four patients placed at St Andrews in Northampton. The number of these types of placements has reduced over the past 12 months but there is still more work to do. 'You can be assured this is a priority for us, as we want people to be closer to their homes and their families.' Danny remains hopeful that his father will return home to Wrexham soon to receive the appropriate care he requires.

Dad Confused As Daughter Says Don't 'Be Mad'—Then He Sees Why
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A dad has gone viral for his hysterical reaction to his daughter arriving home with two kittens. Danielle Flores lives in the U.S. with her husband Danny and their daughter Laila, who she described to Newsweek as "a huge kitten lover." The family—who already have two cats—adopted a kitten from a local rescue earlier in the year, but when it became suddenly sick and passed away, Laila was devastated. So when Laila recently decided she was ready for another kitten, Flores and her husband agreed—only for Danny to get a shock when the mother and daughter arrived home with two. "A lady posted about needing to find home for her kittens and when my daughter and I got there, we decided to take both," Flores explained. "My husband knew we were going for one kitten—the surprise was coming back with two." A video showing the moment Danny learned about the two new additions to the family has gone viral, after Flores posted a clip to her TikTok account @ on June 17. It shows Laila sitting in the car, beaming at her new pets who are being held in a carrier, as Danny approaches the vehicle. Danny Flores opens the door to the car where his daughter reveals she has come home with two kittens instead of one. Danny Flores opens the door to the car where his daughter reveals she has come home with two kittens instead of one. TikTok @ "Daddy, promise not to be mad at me or mom," she tells him, before turning the carrier around to let him see inside. "What is that?" he asks, leaning in towards the carrier with a smile on his face. His smile then drops and his eyes widen, as he jerks upwards and exclaims in Spanish: "Dos?!" As Laila confirms it's "two," Flores bursts out laughing—and Danny, resigned, says: "Babe. Why?" But as he looks at his daughter smiling at the kittens, it's clear he can't actually be mad—as TikTok commenters quickly picked up on. One commenter wrote: "Putting the daughter on the front line to deliver the news was genius," and another said: "Dad looked at his little girl smiling, looked back at you, and was like, yeah we can't give them back, huh?" Danny realizes there are two kittens in the carrier, then looks at his daughter. Danny realizes there are two kittens in the carrier, then looks at his daughter. TikTok @ Others were in stitches at Danny's reaction, one saying: "Why is him yelling 'DOS?!' so absolutely hilarious?" and another admitting: "I watched this numerous times just to hear him say dos." Flores, who fosters special needs children with her husband and also works in the behavioral field for the local school district, confirmed to Newsweek that all is well, and Danny "absolutely loves the kittens." Others in the comments pointed out the benefits to getting two kittens together, one joking: "It socializes, keeps them occupied and can save your sanity. In fact, get one more just in case." Two kittens will mentally stimulate and entertain each other, teach each other good habits such as using the litterbox and grooming, and help avoid developing pickiness when it comes to food, according to a vet-reviewed report from The Spruce Pets. Danny Boyle had a 'nightmare' filming naked zombies for 28 Years Later
Danny Boyle has admitted it was a "nightmare" filming naked zombies for new horror movie 28 Years Later. The moviemaker has stepped back into the director's chair to helm the new horror - written by Alex Garland - 23 years after the pair's first film 28 Days Later hit cinemas and Danny has revealed they needed to take extra care not to have "naked" actors on the set because they had strict rules in place to protect the film's child star Alfie Williams. Speaking to PEOPLE, Danny explained: "I mean, if you're recently infected [with the zombie virus], you'd have some clothes, but if you've been infected for a long time, the clothes would just disintegrate with the way that you behave. "We never knew that [about rules governing nudity on set when there's a child present] going in, it was a nightmare." Danny went on to explain the work-around they came up with, adding: "Interestingly, because there was a 12-year-old boy on set, you're not allowed for anybody to be naked, not really naked, so they look naked, but it's all prosthetics ... "So it's like: 'Oh my God,' so we had to make everybody prosthetic genitals'." Danny revealed he was keen to push boundaries with the elements of nudity and gore in the film and he's glad studio bosses were supportive of his plans. He told Variety: "I think one of the wonderful things about horror is that you're expected to maximize the impact of your story. Everybody wants to do that with a drama, with the romance, whatever. "But with horror, it's obviously gonna be brutal, some of it. What we loved was setting it against an innocence that's represented by the various children in it, and also the landscape, the beauty of the landscape, the nature. "Having those two forces stretches your story as far as you can go, if you maximize them. That was our principle and the studio was supportive of that, of course they were." 28 Years Later is out this month and a fourth film in the series 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple - directed by Nia DaCosta with Danny as a producer - has already been shot ahead of a planned January 2026 launch date. However, the 'Trainspotting' moviemaker hopes to be back in the directing chair if the final movie is given the green light. The series was created by Alex Garland - who wrote the screenplays for all the films except for second instalment 28 Weeks Later - and started with Cillian Murphy's character Jim, who awakes from a coma to discover Britain has been plagued by a terrible pandemic known as the Rage Virus, which turns those affected turn into murderous zombies. Cillian makes a brief appearance in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple and is due to be given a bigger role in the untitled follow-up, but Alex Garland has revealed there's still no script for the next month. He told Variety: "The script isn't written. It's strange: There's a story, there's a plan, there's a structure ... So short answer: I've got the idea, I've got the plan, but there's not a script. I'm waiting to see what happens, I suppose."

Desi auto companies yet to get Beijing nod for magnets
Danny generated AI Image NEW DELHI: No Indian auto component or vehicle company managed to get approval from the Chinese govt for procuring rare earth magnets so far, sources said. They added that there is also "no clarity as yet" on any timeline for a confirmed meeting with representatives of the Chinese govt, despite the intervention of Indian officials. The applications for sourcing magnets were filed mainly by auto component manufacturers, who provide fully-built sophisticated component assemblies such as speedometers, electric motors, e-axles, electric water pumps, automatic transmission kits, speakers, sensors and ignition coils (used in engines). The companies that applied include Uno Minda, Bosch, Mareli, TVS Group, Motherson Sumi and Sona Comstar. "There were no approvals so far, according to the latest assessment we carried through interactions with industry representatives," one of the sources told TOI. "The situation is grave, and there is now massive uncertainty regarding manufacturing schedules and factory output." The request for a meeting with Chinese representatives is being pursued not only by industry bodies - Auto Component Manufacturers Association (Acma) and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam) - but also by ministries, such as heavy industries, external affairs, and Commerce. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? IC Markets Mendaftar Undo Officials from major automobile companies like Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, and TVS are also pursuing the matter. The industry also had a meeting with top officials at the ministry of heavy industries earlier this week as govt looks at ways to navigate out of the current crisis. "However, not much headway was made so far," an official source said. Industry executives said the ministry onboarded Ernst & Young as a partner to work on the issue. The meeting also reviewed the preparation of some Indian companies working in the field of magnets. The auto industry requested local producers to give a firm timeline on supplies, if at all possible, emphasising that their production line is dependent on quick procurement. Both Acma and Siam prepared a list of delegates that they intend to rope in if a visit to China can be facilitated by the govt. Through a notification issued on April 4 this year, the Chinese govt imposed certain restrictions in the export permit system for medium and heavy rare earth metals, its alloys, magnets, and related products. To stop the diversion of magnets to defence and weapon requirements, China mandated that exporters must obtain a licence based on the provision of an End User Certificate (EUC), which would need approval from DGFT and the ministry of external affairs and also be endorsed by the Chinese Embassy in India. After this, the EUC needs to be sent to China for approvals - first from the provincial govt from where the exporter in China will produce and export and then from China's ministry of commerce. Danny Boyle was surprised by Trainspotting's impact
Danny Boyle never thought Trainspotting would transform his career. The 68-year-old director helmed the 1996 drama film - which starred the likes of Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle - but Danny never imagined that the movie would become such a huge success. Asked if he expected the film to kick-start his career, Danny told The Hollywood Reporter: "No. Absolutely not. "In fact, I remember there was a wave of disapproval of it building. They had shown a trailer or something on one of the TV movie shows here. And one of the prestigious critics said, 'Well, that looks shockingly irresponsible about drugs.' Things like that were building. "And then there was this journalist, Muriel Gray, and she wrote this piece about Irvine's [Welsh] book, and about the film. She spoke with authority saying, 'You do not know what you are talking about,' all these people piling disapproval on top of it. It was a tipping point." Danny relished the experience of working with Ewan on Trainspotting, remembering that the actor was "fanatical" about his role. Asked to recall his first impressions of Ewan, the acclaimed director replied: "Clearly talented. Very charming. Personable. Incredible hair. Especially speaking as somebody who doesn't have incredible hair. It's just not fair! "His agents were putting him in period romances, for which it was perfect. And he shaved it off before we'd offered him the part of Renton in Trainspotting. He shaved it off and lost weight. And then he continued to lose weight. He was fanatical about that. And he was right. "He earned the part. Sometimes an actor knows more than you. They have a connection that you are going to discover by making the film." Trainspotting proved to be a turning point in Danny's career, and he was subsequently approached to helm the fourth Alien movie. However, the director ultimately decided that the project wasn't the right fit for him. Danny said: "I met Sigourney Weaver and Winona Ryder, who were attached to it. So obviously it was pretty serious. They were wonderful. But it was the early days of the CG crossover. That moment where it was transitioning. And I couldn't handle the CG." Danny is a fan of the Alien franchise, but he didn't think he was right for the role. He explained: "I was very passionate about it, because I loved the Alien idea. "I just suddenly had a rare moment of clarity, thinking, 'You are not the right guy for this.' I went off to make A Life Less Ordinary instead. That was 20th Century folks as well. I didn't do Alien and I went and made this flop for them instead! But it's water under the bridge."
