Thomas Frank shows his true colours over Ange Postecoglou as new Tottenham boss makes feelings clear
The former Brentford manager was hired by Daniel Levy to take over from the ex-Celtic gaffer in North London Thomas Frank has spoken out on Ange Postecoglou as part of his first interview as Tottenham's new manager – hailing him as a legend. The former Celtic boss delivered on his second season trophy promise as he sparked wild scenes in Bilbao by defeating Manchester United in the Europa League Final and ending the long wait for silverware in North London. The triumph also booked a golden ticket to the Champions League this season and landed Spurs a mega windfall in the process. However, a 17th place finish in the English Premier League - despite the success in Europe's second tier competition - proved to much for Daniel Levy and club bosses as they decided to axe Ange after two seasons at the club. They moved quickly and turned attentions to Brentford boss Frank and got a deal over the line with the Bees. Now, the new Spurs boss has spoken for the first time since taking up his new position and he has shown his true colours over the man he has replaced. Speaking as part of an in-house interview, Frank said: "I think Ange has done something special. He'll forever be a legend in Tottenham. "It's important to understand we all stand on the shoulders of others. "I'm going in on the foundation Ange built, and his coaching staff, and I'm very humble about that. "I'll do my very best to continue the great work he put in. "The feeling, the excitement, the joy and the happiness in the fans' faces, the pictures were 'wow'. "Hopefully, we can create more of those moments. That will be the ultimate dream: to do that and build on that." Tottenham kick off the new season at home to Burnley but before that EPL showdown they have the small matter of fighting PSG in the Super Cup with more silverware on the line before the campaign even gets up and running. Ange has already been linked with a quick-fire return to the dugout in Saudi as he ponders his next steps. ‘We need to take risks': Thomas Frank promises to attack in bid to make Spurs ‘serial winners'
Thomas Frank intends to build on Ange Postecoglou's Europa League triumph and turn Tottenham into 'serial winners'. The new manager described Postecoglou as a 'legend' as he considered how the Australian had ended the club's 17-year trophy drought with victory against Manchester United in Bilbao on 21 May. It was not enough to save him from the sack after a dismal Premier League season. Frank, who has joined from Brentford on a three-year contract, acknowledged the barriers that his predecessor had broken down. But as he promised in his first interview at Spurs to take risks and play on the front foot, he made it clear that the goal was to create more memories by winning silverware. Advertisement Related: Spurs finally have an unpredictable head coach – but Thomas Frank is efficient too Frank's comments, given to the club's website, came after the chair, Daniel Levy, said on Tuesday that he wanted to win the league and Champions League. Spurs' Europa League success has got them back into the Champions League. 'Huge congratulations to the club, to the team … huge congratulations to Ange,' Frank said. 'He will for ever be a legend at Tottenham. It's very important to understand that we all stand on the shoulders of others so I am going in on the foundations that Ange has built. I'm very humble about that and I'll do my very best to continue the great work he put in. 'But the feeling and excitement, the joy and happiness you could see in the fans' faces [after the Europa League win], the pictures you saw were … wow! Hopefully we can create more of those moments. That would be the ultimate dream to do that and build on that. Hey, no one can say they are not winners; the team and the players are winners. Now we need to do [our] best … to see whether we can be serial winners in the future.' Advertisement Frank talked about wanting to create 'magic' for the fans, undertaking a journey with them, making the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium a fortress. He also hit the right notes when he discussed how his team would play. 'The intention is to play aggressive, front-footed football,' he said. 'I know the ethos and the history of the club is massive on attacking football and there is so much attacking talent in the squad. I'm very, very big on principles … what we do in the final third in terms of creating chances, crosses, bring balls in the box, play [in] behind. 'I always say this one-liner: if you don't take risks, you also take risks. So it's important we take risks. Risk is you need to play forward. If you don't risk the ball, you can't create things. We need to be brave. 'For me, if they lose the ball by trying, it's never a problem. But if they don't work hard? I struggle more with that. That's my non-negotiable. We need to take risks. If we don't take risks, it's impossible to achieve something big.'

Tottenham fined for failing to curb homophobic chants during Man United game
FILE PHOTO: Soccer Football - Women's Super League - Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal - Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, Britain - December 16, 2023 Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou of the men's team and chairman Daniel Levy watch the match Action Images via Reuters/John Sibley/File Photo REUTERS Tottenham Hotspur were fined 75,000 pounds ($100,710) by the Football Association on Thursday for crowd misconduct after the club's supporters were heard making homophobic chants during their Premier League match at Manchester United in September. The club condemned the incident at the time and said they were working with local police and stadium security to identify their supporters who participated in "abhorrent homophobic chanting" at Old Trafford. Spurs were charged in November. An independent regulatory commission imposed an action plan, 150,000 pounds fine and a warning, after the club admitted to the charges. The fine was reduced to 75,000 following an appeal. "It was alleged that Tottenham Hotspur failed to ensure its spectators and or supporters... conduct themselves in an orderly fashion and don't use words or otherwise behave in an improper, offensive, abusive, indecent, or insulting way with either an express or implied reference to sexual orientation around both the 49th and 79th minutes," the FA said. Spurs will kick off their 2025-26 Premier League campaign on August 16 against Burnley at home. REUTERS Join ST's Telegram channel and get the latest breaking news delivered to you.

'Should be allowed to do whatever he wants' - fans on Son's future
With the future of Son Heung-min still unclear, we asked for your thoughts on whether the Tottenham captain should be given a new are some of your comments:Peter: Give Son another two years as captain. May only play one game a week but hisleadership to younger players - on and off the pitch - is so Son has been a great player and ambassador for Spurs. Head says sell now but heart says let him choose his own path as a reward/thank Son should be allowed to do whatever he wants. He is a club legend. Signed a new deal when Harry Kane was off and could have easily gone to a European giant years ago. Leave the decision to him!Clare: This is such a difficult one. On a personal level, I don't want Sonny to leave (ever!) and I understand the reasoning in selling him with his levels dropping off last season, but you can't ignore the impact he makes in coming on and his assists. I feel that with our young squad and with a new manager and coaching staff we need Son there as a stabilising influence too. But, knowing how Daniel Levy and the board are they will grab the £34m or whatever it is on Unfortunately he's been pretty poor for two of past three seasons. I think the expectations of a nation, game time and travelling have taken their toll. Forever a Spurs legend. Sell him to wherever he wants to go and build him a statue!Charlie: With Thomas Frank in charge, I'd feel Son will benefit more. Let's face it. The season just gone everyone scored more goals but no-one was an outright goal machine due to how ange had the team set up. I'd say give him this season. If by March/April, he wants to extend then offer it to him. If not, build a statue and let him go wherever he wants for free. He's been an absolute saint for spurs and seeing his emotions with James Maddison after the Europa League win, he can leave with his head so high, he'd have to duck out the Yes, give him a two-year deal. His assist stats are still good, if he has a better striker playing with him, he will score more too!

Thomas Frank calls for unity at Tottenham after replacing Ange Postecoglou
Speaking for the first time since replacing Ange Postecoglou – who was sacked just weeks after delivering Spurs their first trophy in 17 years – the former Brentford boss said there would need to be 'alignment' among the club's hierarchy, including with chairman Daniel Levy, if the team is to build on their Europa League triumph. Spurs will play in the Champions League for the first time since 2022 courtesy of victory over Manchester United in Bilbao in May, despite recording their lowest finish of 17th in the Premier League. The Frank Philosophy 🧠 — Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) June 18, 2025 It was this fact, together with 22 league defeats, that persuaded Levy to dismiss Postecoglou and turn to Frank. 'I've only heard good stuff about all the people here, the training ground, the players,' Frank told the club's website. 'It's a good squad. It's an exciting, massive club with massive potential. So, it's just super, super exciting. 'I had very good conversations and meetings with Daniel Levy, (chief executive) Vinai Venkatesham and (technical director) Johan Lange where we discussed everything in depth, details about the club structure, processes, and of course I came with my views on things, how I saw it, my ideas, and the way I want to do things and how I try to build a team and a club.' There has been open hostility between Levy and supporters in recent seasons with fans largely directing their ire at the chairman rather than Postecoglou last season as the defeats mounted. Daniel Levy has been a target for Spurs' fans frustrations (John Walton/PA) Levy has at different times been accused of failing to invest in the team and has been blamed for the club's apparent drift since they reached the Champions League final in 2019. Frank is Spurs' fifth permanent appointment since Mauricio Pochettino, who led them to that final in Madrid, was sacked five months later. 'If you want to do something quick, you can go alone,' said Frank, who led Brentford to 10th place last season following finishes of 13th, ninth and 16th in their three previous Premier League seasons. He also brought them into the top flight via the play-offs in 2021. 'If you want to do something big or achieve something big, you go together. So, it's definitely about doing things together – me, the staff, the players. 'I think alignment is key, from top to bottom. Of course it starts from Daniel, Vinai, Johan, and me, and the more the four of us can be aligned, just like a unit, an unbreakable unit, the stronger we'll be. 'There'll be ups and downs. Right now, it's a fairytale. Everyone's happy, the sun is shining, it's fantastic.'
