Parma appoint Arsenal's Cuesta as youngest coach in Serie A history
ROME, June 20 — Parma made 29-year-old Carlos Cuesta the youngest head coach in the history of Serie A yesterday when they hired the Spaniard to replace Cristian Chivu. 'Parma Calcio are delighted to announce that, as of 1 July, Carlos Cuesta will become manager of the Men's First Team,' the club announced on their website adding that the coach had signed a two-year contract. Cuesta arrives from Arsenal, where he had worked as an assistant to Mikel Arteta since 2000. Before that he spent two years in Italy as a youth coach at Juventus. Cuesta, a native of Mallorca who turns 30 in July, becomes the youngest current coach in any of the 'Big Five' European leagues. Parma returned to Serie A and were struggling in 18th place when Chivu was appointed in February, after seven years coaching Inter Milan youth teams. In 13 matches in his first senior head coaching job, the Romanian won three, lost three and drew even to guide the club to 16th and Serie A survival. Chivu left after the season to take over at Inter, where he also spent six seasons as a player. Cuesta was reportedly preferred to Italians Daniele De Rossi, Alberto Gilardino, and Paolo Vanoli. The Serie A season does not start until August 23, but Cuesta is the ninth new coach appointed this summer. Two more of the 20 clubs have unfilled vacancies. — AFP

Report – Parma Striker One Step From Joining Inter Milan In €25M Deal
Parma striker Ange-Yoan Bonny is reportedly one step away from joining Inter Milan in a deal worth €25 million. This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport italia, via FCInterNews. They report that the negotiations between the clubs are just down to the question of add-ons now. Advertisement Inter Milan are now rapidly approaching the closing stage of negotiations with Parma for striker Ange-Yoan Bonny. The Nerazzurri's interest in the 21-year-old is certainly no secret. They had already been targeting him before appointing Cristian Chivu as coach – and the Romanian has further pushed them towards a deal. Inter see Bonny as an ideal player to follow in the footsteps of Marcus Thuram. Advertisement Napoli had also shown an interest in signing the Frenchman. However, they have all but withdrawn from the race. The Nerazzurri have more or less agreed a deal worth €25 million for Bonny. The only thing that is in any question now is the question of add-ons. Parma want a straight €25 million fee, reports Sky Sport Italia. On the other hand, Inter want a deal at that valuation, but including add-ons.

Carlos Cuesta, 29, becomes youngest Serie A coach in nearly a century
PARMA, Italy (AP) — Carlos Cuesta has become the youngest coach in Serie A in nearly a century after being hired by Parma on Thursday. It is the 29-year-old Cuesta's first role as a head coach after spending the past five years as an assistant at English Premier League club Arsenal. Advertisement Parma announced that Cuesta signed a two-year contract with the option of a third year. Cuesta has experience in Italy, having been an assistant coach with the under-17 team at Juventus for two years. He also worked with Atletico Madrid's youth teams prior to that. Cuesta, a Mallorca native, is the second-youngest coach ever to work in the Italian top flight. In 1939, Elio Loschi was 29 years, 9 months, 20 days old when he took charge of his first match as player-coach at Triestina. Cuesta will be 30 years, 26 days old when he takes to the dugout for Parma's first match, coincidentally also against Juventus. Advertisement Italian media reported that Cuesta took his first steps into coaching when he was studying in Madrid. He messaged members of the technical staff of both the city's teams on social media until the then-coach of Atletico's under-12 team responded. Former Parma coach Cristian Chivu left the club last week, after steering the team to Serie A safety, to take over at Inter Milan. ___ AP soccer:

Carlos Cuesta appointed Parma head coach after Arsenal exit
Carlos Cuesta is Parma's new head coach after leaving his position after leaving Arsenal's coaching staff. The Athletic reported on Tuesday that the 29-year-old was expected to leave for the Serie A side after being in talks with them for several weeks. Cuesta replaces Cristian Chivu in the role after the 44-year-old Romanian succeeded Simone Inzaghi at Inter earlier this month. 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 💛💙 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐨𝐬 𝐂𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚! Il comunicato ➡️ #ForzaParma — 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐜𝐢𝐨 𝟏𝟗𝟏𝟑 (@1913parmacalcio) June 19, 2025 Cuesta thanked Arsenal and Mikel Arteta in two separate statements on his Instagram on Wednesday. 'After five beautiful years it's hard to put this into words, but I can only express how grateful I am for having lived my day-to-day with such special people and feel what it means to represent this football club, with its incredible history and values,' Cuesta said in the first statement. 'The only thing I've ever tried to do was give everything I had inside of me every single day.' A post shared by Carlos Cuesta (@carl0scuesta) In August 2020 he joined Arsenal as Arteta's assistant from Juventus' under-17 side where he occupied the same role, after a stint at Atletico Madrid. 'And then, to the person that made it happen. Thank you,' Cuesta said in a second message directed to Arteta. 'That's the only thing I can say. Thank you for your trust, for giving me the opportunity to be next to you and for showing me with constant facts which is the meaning of the word 'courage'.' Advertisement Cuesta never played professionally but helped lead Arsenal to two Community Shield wins in 2020 and 2023 after his appointment at the age of 25. Granit Xhaka told The Athletic in 2024: 'He knows what he's doing: he knows how to speak with the players, what the players need. 'How Carlos improved — day by day, month by month, year on year — was unbelievable. The individual meetings that we had with him were always on point, very clear to understand, and I was very grateful to learn many many new things.' Arsenal have a new sporting director in Andrea Berta and are prepared for a big transfer window after their fifth year with no major trophies under Arteta.
