Nantes name former Dunkerque coach Castro as new manager

Nantes name former Dunkerque coach Castro as new manager Nantes have appointed Luis Castro as manager, the Ligue 1 club said on Monday, with the Portuguese coach signing a two-year contract with an option for another year having made a name for himself at second-tier side Dunkerque. Castro, who had his first senior managerial role at Greek side Panetolikos in 2019 before returning to Portugal to take charge of Benfica's youth and reserve teams, managed Ligue 2 club Dunkerque for the past two campaigns. Last season Castro led Dunkerque to the Coupe de France semi-finals where they took a 2-0 lead against Paris St Germain before bowing out 4-2, and they also reached the promotion playoffs where they lost out to Metz in the semi-final. Nantes sacked Antoine Kombouare at the end of last season, a campaign in which the club battled relegation until the final day. Karel Geraerts tops Reims' shortlist for new head coach

According to a report from L'Équipe, Karel Geraerts tops Stade de Reims's shortlist for their new head coach following the departure of Samba Diawara. The Champagne club reportedly interviewed Geraerts and were convinced by the Belgian's profile. However, Geraerts, a free agent since September, after he was sacked from Schalke 04, has not yet given Reims a definitive answer. The club are faced with certain issues that could detract from the attractiveness of the role; they will likely have to sell this summer, while the budget will also be tightened after suffering a relegation to Ligue 2 via the playoffs. Advertisement Reims had been linked with Philippe Montanier, who has not had a head coaching role since leaving Toulouse FC in 2023 after leading the club to their first-ever Coupe de France title. However, Mohamed Toubache-Ter reported that conversations had cooled between the two parties. L'Équipe points to Olivier Dall'Oglio as another option if Geraerts cannot be convinced. He had led AS Saint-Étienne to promotion in the 2023/24 season, but was sacked in the past campaign following a poor set of results. GFFN | Nick Hartland

Liverpool eyeing move for £100m PSG forward after record Florian Wirtz deal

Liverpool do not intend to stop their summer spending after signing Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz, eyeing up another big-money transfer. The Reds are doing anything but resting on their laurels after their impressive Premier League title win last season. Frimpong has already been brought in from Bayer Leverkusen in a £29.5m deal, while Wirtz is set to make the same trip in a club record signing due to be worth around £127m. The move for the German is a signal of intent from Liverpool, beating the likes of Manchester City and Bayern Munich to his signature, and they are ready to lay down another marker in the transfer market. The Sun report that Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola is still a target for the Premier League champions this summer. The 22-year-old is also on Bayern's radar, in fact he has been labelled their number one target, but the Reds are keen to beat the German giants to him just as they did with Wirtz. The Frenchman has been valued at £100m, although he has fallen down the pecking order at PSG, which is why interested parties are circling. The former Lyon man was on the bench for PSG's 5-0 demolition of Inter Milan in the Champions League final, only coming on for the last 27 minutes. He remained a regular in Luis Enrique's team as he made 58 appearances in all competitions over the campaign, just not necessarily in the starting XI. The front three of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue has taken prominence and suggests Barcola could now be available with a huge bid. The Magpies do not want to sell their star striker and will only be moved by a bid in the region of £150m, which will be too much for the Reds after signing Wirtz. Barcola will become the more achievable target if Newcastle stick to their huge asking price for Isak. With a substantial spending spree going on at Anfield, the Reds also need to sell players this summer. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher have already left for Real Madrid and Brentford respectively, but there will need to be more outgoings. More Trending Darwin Nunez is available for transfer and expected to leave, while Liverpool will also consider bids for Diogo Jota and possibly Luis Diaz as Arne Slot revamps his front line. Al Hilal had a bid for Nunez rejected in January and remain interested in the Uruguayan, while Atletico Madrid and Napoli are both considering making offers. Luis Diaz has been continually linked with Barcelona this summer and the Reds turned down an approach, but the situation could still change. Axel Tape joins Bayer Leverkusen from PSG

Bayer Leverkusen have officially announced the signing of Axel Tape (17) on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain. The teenager was coming to the end of his contract at the European champions, and negotiations over an extension were met with issues that could not be resolved. As per a report from Foot Mercato, Tape viewed himself as a centre-back, while PSG considered his best position to be as a midfielder. Advertisement He was also met with the problem that there was too much competition ahead of him for places, and therefore, he believed that the best path for his development was to leave his formative club. Tape leaves PSG, having made his professional debut for the club, appearing in three games this season. He featured during the 4-2 victory over FC Espaly in the Coupe de France, as well as the Ligue 1 loss to RC Strasbourg Alsace (2-1) and the win over Montpellier HSC (4-1). GFFN | Nick Hartland
