Surjewala Accuses Haryana Govt of Withdrawing Advertisements For 8,000 Jobs Promised Before State Polls
Surjewala added that the jobs that were taken back included 5,666 jobs of Haryana Police. New Delhi: Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala on Thursday (June 19) launched an attack on the Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Haryana, accusing it of withdrawing advertisements for 8,000 jobs which were promised before the assembly elections last year. 'HSSC withdrew a total of 8,653 Group C jobs including 5,600 in police. On August 14, 2024, three hours before the announcement of the assembly (election), Shri Nayab Saini announced these jobs, showed big dreams, even said that till these jobs are not created, I will not take oath as CM, but everything turned out to be a lie. Now Nayab Saini ji laughs, tells jokes, enjoys the helicopter and the youth are knocking door to door for their future,' Surjewala wrote on X. 5,600… — Randeep Singh Surjewala (@rssurjewala) June 19, 2025 Surjewala added that the jobs that were taken back included 5,666 jobs of Haryana Police, 1,838 jobs of stenographer, 535 jobs of draftsman/assistant draftsman, 319 jobs of auto diesel mechanic and 180 jobs of fitter/press mechanic etc. 'Just before the 2024 elections, 50,000 jobs were promised through HKRN, i.e. Kaushal Nigam, and they garnered a lot of votes. Now, after the elections, 4,000 HKRN youths have been sacked and a sword is hanging over the rest,' said Surjewala. Responding to the allegations, Chief Minister Saini's media secretary Praveen Attrey told The Hindu that Congress leaders arbitrarily gave away jobs when in power and also publicly announced to sell jobs during the election campaign, and now seemed worried because the BJP government had given around 1.75 lakh jobs on merit. 'Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini had given away appointment letters to 24,000 youth before taking the oath of the office. Soon more people will be given jobs through Common Entrance Test. The Chief Minister is fulfilling the promises made during the election,' said Attrey, reported the newspaper. Congress MP Surjewala questions Haryana government's withdrawal of 8,000 job ads
Congress Rajya Sabha member Randeep Surjewala has raised questions over the Haryana government withdrawing the advertisements for 8,000-odd Group 'C' jobs, including 5,666 jobs in the Haryana police, saying the youth need to seek answers from the Bharatiya Janata Party legislators in this regard. In a post on his 'X' account on Thursday (June 19, 2025), Mr. Surjewala, a former Haryana Minister, said Chief Minister Nayab Saini had advertised these jobs three hours before the announcement of schedule for the Assembly election last year and promised to make appointments before taking the oath, but 'everything turned out to be a lie'. He took a dig at the Chief Minister saying Mr. Saini now cracked jokes and enjoyed the helicopter rides, while the youth were running from pillar to post for their future. He also demanded to know why only the advertisements for 8,653 Group 'C', including 5,666 jobs of Haryana police, 1,838 jobs of stenographers, 535 jobs of draftsman/assistant draftsman, were withdrawn, but the advertisement for posts of Forest Ranger and Senior Scientific Assistant, also issued last year, were not withdrawn? 'Just before the 2024 election, 50,000 jobs were promised by Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam and they garnered a lot of votes and now after the election, 4,000 youth have been sacked and the sword is hanging on the rest,' said Mr. Surjewala, in the post. Responding to the allegations, Mr. Saini's media secretary Praveen Attrey said the Congress leaders arbitrarily gave away jobs when in power and also publicly announced to sell jobs during the election campaign, and now seemed worried because the BJP government had given around 1.75 lakh jobs on merit. 'Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini had given away appointment letters to 24,000 youth before taking the oath of the office. Soon more people will be given jobs through Common Entrance Test. The Chief Minister is fulfilling the promises made during the election,' said Mr. Attrey.

Two Congress MLAs jailed for blocking Jaipur road in 2014
A magistrate's court here sentenced two sitting Congress MLAs and seven others to one-year imprisonment on Wednesday (June 18, 2025) in an 11-year-old case of unlawful assembly and blocking of a public road outside the University of Rajasthan during a protest. The convicts also included an unsuccessful Congress candidate in the 2023 Rajasthan Assembly election. Congress MLAs Mukesh Bhakar, elected from Ladnun, and Manish Yadav, representing Shahpura, were among the student leaders who staged a protest and blocked Jawaharlal Nehru Marg outside the university's gate for about 20 minutes on August 13, 2014. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Parikshita Detha found them guilty after a protracted trial lasting 11 years. The two MLAs, who were then National Students' Union of India (NSUI) leaders, had gathered along with about 200 students at the university's gate to protest against the process followed for the Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to postgraduate courses. The State was ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party at the time. The nine were convicted under Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 283 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation), and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code and sentenced to one year's imprisonment each, along with a fine of ₹3,200 each. Bail granted The court granted bail to all the convicts and gave them one month's time to file an appeal in a higher court. Among the convicts, Abhishek Chaudhary contested the 2023 Assembly election as a Congress candidate from Jaipur's Jhotwara constituency and lost. The other convicts in the case are Rajesh Meena, Ravi Kirad, Wasim Khan, Dron Yadav, Bhanu Pratap Singh, and Vidyadhar Meel. The court observed that their protest had led to a complete blockade of Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, which is an important arterial road in Jaipur, and caused a significant traffic disruption. The Assembly membership of both Mr. Bhakar and Mr. Yadav will remain unaffected, as a legislator can be disqualified only on being convicted of an offence with a two-year sentence or more, as per Section 8(3) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The Assembly membership of Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Kanwar Lal Meena was terminated last month after he was sentenced to three years in jail in a 20-year-old case for brandishing a revolver at a Sub-Divisional Magistrate. Baran district's Anta Assembly seat has fallen vacant after Meena's disqualification.

2 Congress MLAs among 9 get 1-year jail in 2014 Rajasthan University protest case
Jaipur: Nine members of the Congress party, including two sitting legislators, were sentenced to one year of imprisonment by a Jaipur court on Wednesday for allegedly blocking roads outside the University of Rajasthan during a student protest in 2014. All the accused were granted bail shortly after the sentencing. All nine accused — including Ladnun MLA Mukesh Bhakar and Shahpura MLA Manish Yadav — were geld guilty by the additional chief metropolitan magistrate-19 of Jaipur, Parikshita Detha, under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including Section 283 (danger or obstruction in a public way or line of navigation). 'We had been protesting for a very fair reason and for the welfare of the students. The then-BJP government had booked us unfairly and are now playing a political game to send us inside the jail. We will move to the higher court and challenge this order,' Yadav told HT. The then-National Students' Union of India (NSUI) leaders Bhakar, Yadav, and seven others had gathered in front of University of Rajasthan on JLN Marg along with around 200 students to protest against the process of the Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to postgraduate courses on August 13, 2014. 'The court sentenced them to one year imprisonment. However, they were also granted bail from the chief metropolitan magistrate's court. They now have the option to file an appeal in the high court seeking a stay on the sentence. Each convict has one month to file the appeal,' prosecution officer Kavita Pingolia said. 'In the cases where the accused is sentenced to less than three years of imprisonment, he could use the power of 389 crpc and get bail by suspending the punishment only appeal in the higher court in a month. We will have to appeal in a higher court in a month. Otherwise, they must surrender before the court,' advocate of the accused Narendra Yadav said. The nine sentenced to one year of imprisonment include Congress's Jhotwara candidate during the 2023 assembly election, Abhishek Chaudhary, along with Rajesh Meena, Ravi Kirad, Wasim Khan, Dron Yadav, Bhanu Pratap Singh, and Vidyadhar Meel, apart from MLAs Bhakar and Yadav. 'The local police were present there and the protest was going peacefully, maintaining all the law and order. However, the nine leaders along with all the other protesters had suddenly moved towards the JLN Marg and blocked it for 20 minutes (from 2.10 pm to 2.30 pm), causing heavy traffic across the city. An FIR was filed against them at the Gandhinagar police station under Section 147 and 283 IPC, following which a charge sheet was filed on August 11, 2016,' read the order copy seen by HT. It further added, 'The court is hereby charging all the accused with a ₹200 fine and sentencing a 15-day-long imprisonment for their offence under Section 283 IPC. They are also charged a ₹3,000 fine and sentenced to one year imprisonment for their offence under Section 147 IPC.' Yadav, the then student union president of Rajasthan University in 2014, was elected as an MLA from Jaipur's Shahpura constituency for the first time in 2023 by defeating the two-time MLA Alok Beniwal. Bhakar, a two-time MLA from Nagaur's Ladnun constituency, was first elected as an MLA in 2018 by defeating three-time BJP MLA Thakur Manohar Singh and retained the seat again in 2023. Bhakar, who also served as the state president of the Youth Congress in 2020, the state president of NSUI from 2013 to 2015, and the national secretary of NSUI in 2017, was suspended from the assembly for six months on August 7, 2024, by Speaker Vasudev Devnani for his alleged 'indecent behaviour' during the budget session. However, an official from the government said, 'The conviction might not pose any threat to their MLA designation. As per the Constitution, the MLAs could be disqualified from the assembly only when the sentence is for more than two years.'
