Kneecap's Mo Chara Granted Unconditional Bail at First Hearing on Terror Charge
Kneecap's Mo Chara was released on unconditional bail at his first court appearance in London on terror charges tied to an incident where he allegedly displayed a Hezbollah flag at a concert. The preliminary hearing at the Westminster Magistrates' Court Wednesday June 18 was largely procedural. The Belfast rapper, real name Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, spoke only to confirm his name, and the judge scheduled his next court date for Aug. 20. If convicted, Ó hAnnaidh could face up to six months in prison, and a fine. Both Hamas and Hezbollah are banned in the U.K., and it is a crime to publicly support them. Ó hAnnaidh and Kneecap have repeatedly denied the allegations, stating previously that they 'do not, and have never, supported Hamas or Hezbollah.' They've claimed footage of the November 2024 concert was 'deliberately taken out of all context,' and suggested the terror charge is a reprisal for their outspoken support for Palestine, their calls for an end to the war in Gaza, and their criticism of the U.K. and U.S. governments for continuing to fund and supply arms to Israel. At Wednesday's hearing, prosecutor Michael Bisgrove insisted the case was not about Ó hAnnaidh's support for Palestine or criticism of Israel, adding that he is 'well within his rights to voice his opinions and solidarity, as is anybody else' (via The Associated Press). Rather, Bisgrove said the case is centered around the video of Ó hAnnaidh at the November 2024 concert. Ó hAnnaidh's lawyer, Brenda Campbell, countered that authorities charged the rapper outside the six-month statute of limitations for a terror offense. While the concert took place on Nov. 21, 2024, London Metropolitan police only became aware of the alleged incident in late April 2025, not long after Kneecap's controversial set at Coachella, where they displayed messages about the war in Gaza. The charge was brought May 21, exactly six months after the London concert. 'If we are right in relation to that, then this court has no jurisdiction and there ends the case,' Campbell said of the timeline. Ó hAnnaidh and his bandmates Móglaí Bap (Naoise Ó Cairealláin) and DJ Próvai (JJ O'Dochartaigh) all arrived at the London courthouse wearing Palestinian keffiyeh scarves. They were greeted by a crowd of supporters outside, many of whom were waving Palestinian and Irish flags. On social media last night, Kneecap wrote, 'British courts have long charged people from the North of Ireland with 'terrorism' for crimes never committed. We will fight them. We will win.' BLACKPINK's Jennie cries for help trying spicy chicken wings; fans say, 'She's hilarious without even trying'
BLACKPINK's Jennie went through a range of emotions in the latest episode of Hot Ones, where guests try hot and spicy chicken sauce with wings. Jennie started off confidently, but as the show progressed, so did the spice level… which caused her a lot of trouble. Fans reacted to the episode in the comments and shared that she is certainly the most 'entertaining' guest on the show so far. That comment did not age well when the next sauce arrived (called 'Da Bomb'). Jennie had an immediate reaction after tasting the wing with the sauce. She cried, shrieked, and got up from her chair to run up and down the set in horror. Jennie also had ice cream and a glass of milk to help cool her down. Reacting to Jennie's experience on the show, several fans praised her for keeping it real and candid about her spice tolerance. A fan commented, ''I'm gonna try my best and keep my calm,' and proceeds to give us 10 minutes of full chaos.' A second one said, 'She's hilarious without even trying! probably the best episode I've seen so far!' Another fan commented, 'Her reaction to Da Bomb is top tier!!' Between the unbridled opulence of it all and the mix of guests, I immediately knew that this stylishly-appointed camp is where season four of HBO's 'The White Lotus' should be filmed. Listen carefully, Mike White. I broke my pledge of not working on vacation to tell you that your show needs a safari season, and Sir Richard Branson's quaint camp is the obvious setting. I was traveling with a group of seven gay men from Boston (a.k.a. the drama). There was a honeymooning second-marriage couple from South Carolina (cue the Parker Posey accent), a large family from Hawaii celebrating a non-descript and unspoken milestone (suspicious), a solo traveler enjoying her birthday (sad), and a pair of young couples from Southeast Asia who had a wardrobe better suited for Coachella than Kenya. The script writes itself. Heck, I'm happy to help, for a small fee, of course. The pool area at Mahali Mzuri safari camp overlooks a valley where guests can watch animals such as giraffes, elephants, hippos, and baboons stroll through. My friends and I visited a traditional Maasai village near the camp to see how the locals live, except this village had more handicrafts for sale than residents. Now, picture a group of gay men sitting inside a traditional mud hut listening to a local describe how the huts are constructed. Before he could finish, an elderly woman from the tribe had a question for us: 'Where are your wives?' Advertisement Did I mention that homosexuality is illegal in Kenya? This is comedy gold, Mike White. It's not just the culture that works for 'White Lotus.' There's also room for danger. A month before our arrival, a lion killed a 14-year-old girl at a camp in Kenya, and while we were on a safari, a lion killed a man in Namibia when he stepped out of his tent in the night to use the toilet. On our twice-daily safari rides through the conservancies, we frequently saw lions gnawing on freshly killed prey. Think of the possibilities of killing off a character by mauling. Christopher Muther/Globe Staff The beautiful locations are part of the 'White Lotus' television-as-travel brochure appeal, and the 580-square-mile Maasai Mara National Reserve, where Sir Richard Branson's Mahali Mzuri Virgin Mega Safari Camp is located, is breathtaking. Each evening, the sunset was like a painting, and the sheer amount of wildlife was impressive. Throughout the trip, our group stayed at three different camps. They were all notable in their own way, but even the wildlife around Mahali Mzuri seemed more extravagant. Were they on Branson's payroll? Are you picking up what I'm putting down here, Mike? Christopher Muther/Globe Staff You can even draw upon our wacky experiences of occasional power outages, an actual spear being used as a 'Do not disturb' sign, and a policy that allows guests to step behind the bar and mix their own drinks if there's no bartender in sight. Those three elements alone can serve as a story arc. Advertisement It may sound surprising that I knew so little about Mahali Mzuri before I arrived, but since my job involves planning travel, I was happy to leave the planning to others for my vacation. I just showed up with a duffle bag of what I thought were appropriate safari clothes and prepared to rough it. Little did I know I'd wind up in such glamorous surroundings. That's my pitch, Mike. I know you're looking at setting the new season Even if you don't use my idea — and you'd be crazy not to — I won't hold it against you. I'll always have the memories of the luxury, the lions, and the local woman asking a large group of gay men why we left our wives at home. BLACKPINK's Jennie tells crew ‘I warned you' as she cries for help, says Jisoo should've done HotOnes instead: Watch
After Lisa and Rosé, it was BLACKPINK's Jennie who arrived for the HotOnes challenge, but unlike the previous two, this one was chaotic enough to leave the singer in tears. The K-pop star arrived confident, dressed in a white silhouette with her hair tied in a ponytail, but was soon seen leaping off her seat, crying for help, sniffing, and struggling to breathe as the heat kicked in. She took her first bite with a smug grin, even saying she was disappointed, the wings looked too easy, especially for someone who doesn't even like spicy food. That changed fast. Things got so intense, Jennie half-joked she might now be allergic to spice. During the segment, the Ruby singer also answered questions about her Coachella experience, the songs she fought for, and whether Jisoo would survive the challenge better than the rest. Meanwhile, host Sean Evans couldn't stop hyping her up for braving the madness. The album is said to have been inspired by the iconic English playwright Shakespeare. The singer reacted to the fact that the play was broken down into seven parts for her to understand, and that's when things kicked in; it was her time to show the seven years in BLACKPINK through her style. 'I've had my ups and downs. I've had my rollercoaster emotions of when I loved music, and when I hated music. And every moment in between was the important thing that got me here. So, I started just breaking myself down, and I guess it just inspired me to look at myself in a different way and really dive into what got me here and who I am,' she said. When asked if there were any songs that she fought for, she admitted she did — and not just the songs, but even the core message of the album. 'We didn't have to forcefully make the music easy for people to like this album. Let me try and do what I like and what I convince myself to do to get to people,' she said. Jennie mentioned songs like Zen and Starlight to describe how the idea of the songs and even the theme wouldn't instantly kick in, but once it does, it stays with people. Sean asked how much it means to her when fans sing the lyrics of her lesser-known songs, to which the singer replied that it's not even the lesser-known songs, it's the ones that never made it to the album, the B-side tracks, that fans know by heart and even scream out loud in the crowd. 'They're just screaming the lyrics from the top to the end, and that's when you really feel like — oh, they really do listen to your album. They really do listen to your music.' Other than the questioning round where she completely blanked out after the No. 8 sauce, Da Bomb, kicked in, she said, 'This is no joke,' as she finally gulped down the milk, grabbed some ice cream, and yet kept coughing, joking with her crew playfully, 'See, I warned you!'
