Charlie Woods wins playoff to qualify for second straight U.S. Junior Amateur
Charlie Woods is headed to another USGA championship. Woods, 16, qualified for his second straight U.S. Junior Amateur on Thursday, winning a 3-for-1 playoff at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Florida, for the last of five qualifying spots. Woods shot 1-under 71, closing in bogey-birdie-bogey, along with Oscar Crowe and Matthew Marigliano before winning the playoff. Medalist Arth Sinha also qualified, as did Lucas Gimenez, Sohan Patel and Wylie Inman. The U.S. Junior will be contested July 21-26 at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas. Last year, Woods medaled in his U.S. Junior qualifier before shooting 22-over 162 at Oakland Hills to tie for 240th in the 264-player field and miss the match-play cut in his USGA debut. Woods, a rising junior at the Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida, has skyrocketed in the AJGA rankings. He's No. 17, fourth in the Class of 2027, boosted greatly by his first AJGA invitational victory last month at the Team TaylorMade Invitational at Streamsong Resort's Black Course. He's also tied for 10th in the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup standings. The six boys on the team, which will compete in the days prior to the Ryder Cup at Bethpage, will consist of the U.S. Junior winner, the Junior PGA winner and runner-up, the top two players in points and a captain's pick. As of June 15, Woods could began officially communicating with college coaches. He's expected to have plenty of interest from Power-4 schools.

Charlie Woods T-2 after 9 holes at 2025 U.S. Junior Amateur qualifying in Florida
Charlie Woods T-2 after 9 holes at 2025 U.S. Junior Amateur qualifying in Florida Charlie Woods, the son of nine-time USGA champion Tiger Woods, is attempting to qualify for his second straight U.S. Junior Amateur. Woods is playing in the Eagle Trace Golf Club qualifier in Florida, where five spots are up for grabs. Woods, 16, made his U.S. Junior Amateur debut last summer at Oakland Hills in Michigan, where he missed the cut. Tiger won three U.S. Junior Amateur titles and also has three U.S. Amateurs to his name, too. Starting on No. 10, Woods was 3 under through eight holes before a bogey on the par-4 18th to turn in 2 under, which was good for T-2. His scores are only being updated after every nine holes, so don't expect any changes to his score until he completes play. Last month, Woods got his biggest win to date, winning the AJGA's Team TaylorMade Invitational at Streamsong Black in Central Florida, beating a field consisting of most of the top juniors in the country. Earlier this week, Woods, a Class of 2027 recruit, was able to be contacted for the first time by college coaches looking to recruit him. Earlier this month, he made the cut at the Florida Amateur Championship. The 2025 U.S. Junior Amateur is set for July 21-26 at Trinity Forest in Dallas.

A third brother, Soane Toia, also recently finished his eligibility San Jose State. 247Sports' recruiting analyst Greg Biggins labeled him as the "most promising" defensive line prospect from California since Michigan star Mason Graham, and made a player comparison to his older brother Jay. Advertisement "He plays a lot of edge, most likely to avoid constant double teams but he's a tremendous interior line presence who can win with power and quickness. He combines a quick first step, strong hands and a consisted motor," Biggins wrote. "He's a relentless player with a nice edge in his game and can manhandle opposing linemen at the high school level. He has an NFL ceiling if he reaches his potential and he's talented enough to play for any school in the country." Toia also holds offers from some of the top programs in college football, including Michigan, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, and USC. In total, he holds 24 FBS offers. Linebacker JP Peace, grandson of Phillip Fulmer, commits to Volunteers
The grandson of national champion head coach and former Tennessee Volunteers athletic director Phillip Fulmer is the Vols' first commitment in the Class of 2027. Linebacker J.P. Peace, a rising high school junior, announced his commitment to Tennessee via social media on Monday. Peace's grandfather won six SEC East titles and the 1998 national championship with the Vols, compiling a 152-52 record over 17 seasons. Fulmer was also the school's athletic director from 2017-21. Peace's father, Robert Peace, is also connected to Tennessee football, having played linebacker for the Volunteers from 2000-03. "Naturally, Tennessee was the leading school for him," Robert Peace told ESPN. "We encouraged him to visit other places and he did that. But Tennessee was the place for him and not just because of the family legacy here." J.P. Peace, who is not currently ranked by ESPN or 247Sports, is a 6-foot-3, 215-pound linebacker at Knoxville West High School, located less than three miles from the university. "I mean, it's really going to be, like, an unreal experience knowing that I'm following in my dad's footsteps a little bit in that way," J.P. Peace told GoVols247. "I'm excited to do that." He reportedly held offers from Florida State, Kentucky, Maryland, Virginia Tech and Vanderbilt. "He's very high on (inside linebackers) coach William Inge," the elder Peace said. "He's done a great job recruiting JP, and we believe he's not only going to make him a better player, but a better person for after football. So that had a big impact on this decision to do this this early." --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved
