Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo Lead Star-Studded Comeback For West Indies Champions In WCL 2025

Three of the West Indies' iconic stars, Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, and Dwayne Bravo, are back in maroon, reunited under the banner of West Indies Champions. Alongside them, WCL also welcomes a dynamic line-up featuring Sheldon Cottrell, Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Smith, Shannon Gabriel, and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, setting the stage for one of the most electrifying squads of the tournament. The Universe Boss, Chris Gayle, captain once again for the 2025 season, stays true to his promise shared as quoted from a press release by the WCL, "Last year, I promised the fans that this season would be greater--and here we are. I'm back as captain of the West Indies Champions, playing alongside my brothers Bravo and Pollard. With this squad, expect nothing less than fireworks. West Indies cricket runs through our veins--we're here to win." Dwayne Bravo, one of T20's greatest all-rounders with 631 wickets across 582 matches, added, "It's great to be representing the West Indies once again - I'm incredibly excited to play with and against good friends and cricketing legends. Polly and I have been good friends for such a long time. Now, we represent our nation once more in the World Championship of Legends." Kieron Pollard, former West Indies captain and one of the most powerful T20 batters in the world, said, "We played together for many years for West Indies and in franchise cricket, it's nice to be able to do that once again. For me too, coming back feels special. To once again wear the colours of West Indies Champions and compete with legends is something I couldn't pass up." Ajay Sethi, Owner of the West Indies Champions, said, "It's like reliving history. Chris, Bravo and Pollard returning define the golden era of West Indies cricket. These three have been the face of West Indies T20 success for years. Seeing them walk out in maroon again is emotional for fans and the cricketing world. This is not just a comeback; it's a celebration of legacy." Sanctioned by the England & Wales Cricket Board, the World Championship of Legends is the only international T20 league for retired professionals. Black Caps batsman breaks world record for most sixes in a T20

Black Caps opener Finn Allen has broken the world record for most sixes in the T20 innings, smashing 19 to move past the mark held by West Indies blaster Chris Gayle. Allen broke several records in his innings of 151 for his San Francisco Unicorns franchise against Washington Freedom in the opening match of the US Major League Cricket championship in Oakland, California. San Francisco won the match by 153 runs, built almost entirely around the remarkable 151 off 51 balls — at a strike rate of 296 — from right-handed power-hitter Allen. The 26-year-old recorded the fastest 150 in T20 cricket, reaching that milestone in 49 balls. The 34 balls taken to bring up his century was the fastest by a New Zealand player. ADVERTISEMENT Allen's 19 sixes was one one more than Chris Gayle achieved when scoring 146 off 69 balls for the Rangpur Riders in Bangladesh Premier League final against Dhaka Dynamites in 2017. "It was exciting," Allen said of his knock. "Got off to a good start, found the boundaries regularly, we had a few partnerships and got a good score on the board. The boundaries are fairly decent." Allen wasn't contracted to New Zealand Cricket and was a proven performer in franchise cricket although he was unable to land a contract in this year's Indian Premier League. He was selected for the Black Caps' T20 home series win over Pakistan in March, forming a lethal combination with fellow-opener Tim Seifert.

San Francisco's Allen hits record 19 sixes in MLC season opener

San Francisco Unicorns opener Finn Allen smashed a record 19 sixes in his incendiary 151 off 51 balls against defending champions Washington Freedom in the opening match of this year's Major League Cricket (MLC) on Thursday. Allen's knock was the Twenty20 league's highest individual score since its 2023 debut season, while his six-hitting display passed the previous mark of 18 in a T20 match held by West Indian Chris Gayle and Estonian Sahil Chauhan. The Unicorns amassed 269-5, an MLC team record, with Allen taking 34 balls to bring up his 100 against a bowling attack that included New Zealand compatriots Bean Sears, Rachin Ravindra and Glenn Phillips. Phillips took a catch at long on to dismiss the 26-year-old opener off Mitchell Owen's bowling in the 18th over of the innings.
