Michigan State's Aidan Chiles Is Left off Josh Pate's Big Ten Top 10 Quarterback List

Michigan State's Aidan Chiles Is Left off Josh Pate's Big Ten Top 10 Quarterback List originally appeared on Athlon Sports. CBS Sports' Josh Pate revealed his Big Ten Preseason Quarterback Rankings with Penn State's Drew Allar, Ohio State's Julian Sayin, and Oregon's Dante Moore taking the top three spots, respectively. Advertisement Former Michigan State play caller Brian Lewerke noted one name absent from the remaining seven spots: current Spartans' quarterback Aidan Chiles. Michigan State Spartans quarterback Aidan King/Lansing State Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images "Josh, with all due respect, this is not very good. And not just because you decided to not list the QB with the most talented arm in the B10," Lewerke commented under Pate's ranking on X. Chiles is entering his third NCAA season and second with the Michigan State Spartans. Including his time at Oregon State, he completed 60 percent of his passes for 2,724 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions over 21 games. He also rushed for 304 yards over 114 attempts. Advertisement When comparing to other quarterbacks on the list, Chiles statistically is either even with or surpassing them. Nebraska's Dylan Raiola, who's ranked at No. 6 on Pate's list, has similar stats to Chiles. As a freshman in 2024, he completed 67 percent of his passes for 2,819 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. On the rushing end, he attempted 50 carries with a net negative of 65 yards. Passing-wise, Raiola is similar to Chiles, yet the Spartan could not break into the top 10 whereas the Husker with net negative rushing yards could land at No. 6. Michigan's Bryce Underwood has yet to play an NCAA game. While ranked the No. 1 overall player, quarterback, and player out of Michigan in his recruitment class, judging Underwood's nonexistent collegiate career as equivalent to a No. 8 spot in the Big Ten is questionable. A case that can be made is the mere potential for and expectations on the incoming freshman. However, putting Underwood in the top 10, never mind also above two quarterbacks with NCAA experience, is not justifiable. Even in a rebuilding phase that Michigan State is going through with head coach Jonathan Smith, Chiles has grown in the offseason and is more comfortable with the Spartans. Confidence and limiting interceptions will need to be his main focus. Especially with the addition of former Oregon State quarterbacks coach Jon Boyer, the cards are falling in Chiles' favor to be at least a top 10 quarterback in the Big Ten. Former MSU QB calls out Big Ten rankings that snubbed Aidan Chiles

Former MSU QB calls out Big Ten rankings that snubbed Aidan Chiles Popular college football analyst for CBS Sports Josh Pate released his top 10 quarterbacks of the Big Ten, and a former Spartans signal caller had an issue with the list. Pate's top 10 quarterbacks list for the upcoming season left off Michigan State's Aidan Chiles -- which initially grabbed my attention as surprising to see. It also was alarming to former Michigan State starting quarterback Brian Lewerke -- who took to social media platform X to call out Pate. Lewerke called out Pate's list as "not very good" and noted that his feedback wasn't just because of Chiles being snubbed. You can see Lewerke's response and Pate's top 10 list in the post below: As I said above, I also was not a fan of this rankings from Pate. In my opinion, Chiles ranks as at top 10 quarterback in the league, with the potential to be a top five quarterback should he approach his ceiling. Last year, Chiles showed inconsistency but as a first year starter that was expected from him. Ironically, Nebraska's Dylan Raiola had comparable numbers to Chiles and he was ranked as the No. 6 quarterback in Pate's list while Chiles was left off. These type of lists are not ultimately a big deal and just used for fun offseason discussion. But I enjoyed seeing a former Spartans quarterback looking out for the current guy wearing green-and-white under center. Spartans listed low in College Football Future Power Rankings through 2026 from ESPN

Spartans listed low in College Football Future Power Rankings through 2026 from ESPN When it comes to future power rankings from ESPN, Michigan State ranks near the bottom of the Big Ten. Adam Rittenberg of ESPN took a different spin on your typical power rankings that look ahead to just the upcoming season and put together a list for the next two years -- which he has labeled as College Football Future Power Rankings through 2026. The key areas Rittenberg is analyzing as part of these future power rankings are: Returning quarterback Likelihood of a multiyear QB on roster Offensive line/defensive line outlook Roster management Star power (All-Americans, national award contenders, all-conference contenders) Coaching staff So where did Michigan State rank among the 68 power four teams included in the poll? Firmly in the back half at No. 51 nationally -- which came out to No. 14 in the Big Ten. Within the Big Ten, the Spartans were ahead of Purdue, Maryland, Wisconsin and Northwestern, and right behind UCLA (two spots nationally). Here are a few of the notable items Rittenberg called out about the Spartans: Likelihood of a multiyear QB: Quite likely. (Aidan) Chiles carries junior eligibility and has great familiarity with Smith, offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren and the staff. His backups are all young players. Chiles could have a breakout season and move on, but few would be surprised if he's leading the MSU offense in 2026. Quite likely. Chiles could have a breakout season and move on, but few would be surprised if he's leading the MSU offense in 2026. Roster management: Michigan State's roster has been fairly fluid under Smith, with transfers going in and out, but the team retained wide receiver Nick Marsh, one of its top young playmakers, and several other key holdovers. The team has made some portal gains, especially at spots such as wide receiver, offensive line and defensive back. Smith has been fairly quiet in high school recruiting, although the team has a commitment from ESPN 300 prospect Kayd Coffman for the 2026 class. Star power: Michigan State lost All-Big Ten player Newman to the draft and interceptions leader Charles Brantley to the portal (Miami). Marsh and veteran tight end Jack Velling have all-conference potential, and Chiles is a talented quarterback seeking more consistency. MSU will be banking on big production from transfers such as Moore and wide receivers Chrishon McCray and Omari Kelly. Personally, I would have Michigan State ranked higher than some of the programs Rittenberg slotted ahead of the Spartans. But I also understand the need to see more from Jonathan Smith at Michigan State from a national writer before putting a ton of faith into the Spartans. So it's a fair ranking, but certainly something I would be very disappointed about should Michigan State be a sub top 50 team nationally by the end of year three under Smith. She's a two-time Olympian, Miami Swim Week model, bestselling author — and now, Jordan Chiles is adding beauty ambassador to her already impressive list of accomplishments. The 24-year-old gymnast is the new face of Hero Cosmetics, the viral skincare brand best known for its Mighty Patch hydrocolloid stickers. Chiles, who was part of the gold-medal winning US women's gymnastics team at the 2024 Summer Olympics, has been open about her skin journey, including hyperpigmentation, texture, and breakouts. Chiles is buzzing with energy when we sit down over Zoom to chat about the new partnership. 'People always ask me, 'What do you do for your skincare?' So I was really happy Hero wanted me to be one of their ambassadors,' she exclusively tells Refinery29. 'Whether it's dark spots or a pimple that's coming up and I want it gone, I've always loved Mighty Patch.' In addition to her out-of-this-world strength, artistry, and athleticism, Chiles has also authentically shown up as herself via her competition glam; strong brows, fluttery lashes, glowy skin, and medal-worthy nail art all figured heavily in her most epic Olympic moments. As she tells me, beauty has always been something she's passionate about. 'My older sister, who is my hair and makeup artist, definitely gave me a perspective of understanding that glam is something to enjoy, have fun with, and be creative,' she says. Chiles swears by a less-is-more approach to keeping her sensitive skin looking and feeling its best. 'A majority of the time, I only use a good cleanser, an exfoliator, and then a nice, silky moisturiser,' she says. 'I keep it very simple, but make sure everything is hydrated and my skin looks good and glowy.' When it comes to favourite products, Chiles lights up talking about being 'down bad' (same, girl) for Hero. 'I have Mighty Patches in every bag, my car, my room, and probably in five different bathrooms,' she says. Her favourites? 'Literally all of them, but since I go to practice a lot, [I love] the invisible ones and the dark spot ones with the prickly points.' We also bonded over a shared underrated Hero fave: the Pore Purity Cleansing Clay Mask, made with glacial sea clay and sea kelp bio-ferment to decongest skin. 'It makes my face so soft — I love it,' Chiles says. 'I've been recently using it two to three times a week to get my pores in the right way and all that stuff.' For Chiles, this partnership — which includes brand campaigns, social content, and live events — is anything but skin deep. 'I have [acne] scars here and there, but now I'm finally at a point where I'm positive with myself and my skin,' she says. 'Literally, it took me 22 years to finally be like, look, Jordan, you're a gorgeous girl. You have beautiful skin. Embrace that.'
