13-Year-Old Boy Rapes 8-Year-Old Cousin In Rajasthan, Detained; Family Refuses Medical Exam

Last Updated: A 13-year-old boy in Rajasthan's Churu district is accused of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old relative on June 16. The boy, reportedly a phone addict, is in custody A deeply unsettling case has surfaced in the Sadar police station area of Rajasthan's Churu district, where a 13-year-old boy has been accused of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl from within the family. The minor accused is reportedly a mobile phone addict, according to preliminary police findings. The incident allegedly took place on June 16, when the victim's parents had gone to work in the fields, leaving their two daughters, aged 8 and younger, alone at home. During this time, the 13-year-old boy, described as a relative and the maternal grandmother's grandson, arrived at the house. It is alleged that he physically assaulted the 8-year-old and then raped her. The crime came to light later in the evening when the girl informed her parents upon their return. Shocked by the revelation, the family immediately approached the Churu Women's Police Station, where the child's mother lodged a formal complaint. Police registered a case under the relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The minor accused has been detained and will be produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for further proceedings. The police arranged for the victim to undergo a medical examination at the district hospital; however, the family refused to allow the procedure. This refusal has introduced a layer of complication in the investigation. A medical board has still been constituted, and police say they are continuing their probe from all possible angles. Investigators have stated that the accused appears to be addicted to mobile phones, though they are still examining the possible motivations and psychological profile of the boy. Police officials are also trying to determine whether any other influences played a role in the alleged act. As of now, the minor remains in police custody, and further action will be taken as per the directives of the Child Welfare Committee. First Published: June 17, 2025, 15:20 IST

Delhi: 3 men arrested for assaulting minor boy

Three men were arrested Monday for allegedly assaulting a minor boy, said police. The men, who work in a shop in a popular market in Southwest Delhi, were captured on video allegedly hitting the boy and forcing him to remove the belt from his pants. Police said they have registered an FIR against a garment shop owner, along with his two shops assistants, under BNS sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 127(2) (wrongful confinement), and 351 (criminal intimidation), along with Section 75 (cruelty to a child) of the Juvenile Justice Act and Section 12 (sexual harassment of a child) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The child will be presented before the Child Welfare Committee soon, said police sources. A shopkeeper who claimed to have witnessed the abuse, on condition of anonymity, said, 'The boy's mother is really poor and works in the market…' He said the boy would ask for money or food from the men on days he was hungry, leading them to allegedly exploit his vulnerability. 'The man and his brother lured the boy first by giving him scraps of food and Rs 10-20 daily… after that we'd see (the man) viciously hitting the boy… the way they'd hit him was horrifying,' he alleged.

Karnal child welfare committee stops minor's wedding just days before her 18th birthday

Karnal: The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) intervened to stop the wedding of a minor girl in Bansa village, just 18 days before she was to legally become an adult. Despite preparations being under way and the baraat expected to arrive, CWC officers reached the residence in time and rescued the girl. While the family assured officials they would not proceed with the marriage until she turned 18, CWC chairperson Umesh Chanana issued a stern warning to villagers against child marriages. He also announced that all sarpanches in the district would be instructed to verify the age of girls before allowing any marriage to take place. He said following a tip-off that a sister duo was getting married in Bansa village, of which one was a minor, the team reached the village along with the police. They inquired about her identity proof, which revealed her age to be below eighteen. The officers advised the family against child marriage, which is a criminal offence and could have repercussions. Thus, her relatives decided to call the wedding off and submitted a written assurance to the CWC. Chanana added that the elder daughter was permitted to get married, but the younger one was rescued and taken along. Further action will be according to the Child Marriage Act, he said.
