Karnal child welfare committee stops minor's wedding just days before her 18th birthday
Karnal: The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) intervened to stop the wedding of a minor girl in Bansa village, just 18 days before she was to legally become an adult. Despite preparations being under way and the baraat expected to arrive, CWC officers reached the residence in time and rescued the girl.
While the family assured officials they would not proceed with the marriage until she turned 18, CWC chairperson Umesh Chanana issued a stern warning to villagers against child marriages. He also announced that all sarpanches in the district would be instructed to verify the age of girls before allowing any marriage to take place.
He said following a tip-off that a sister duo was getting married in Bansa village, of which one was a minor, the team reached the village along with the police. They inquired about her identity proof, which revealed her age to be below eighteen. The officers advised the family against child marriage, which is a criminal offence and could have repercussions. Thus, her relatives decided to call the wedding off and submitted a written assurance to the CWC.
Chanana added that the elder daughter was permitted to get married, but the younger one was rescued and taken along. Further action will be according to the Child Marriage Act, he said.

Andhra Pradesh horror: Dalit girl 'gangraped' for 2 years; 13 arrested
Representative image NEW DELHI: Thirteen people have been arrested in Edgurallapalli, Andhra Pradesh, in connection with the alleged gangrape of a 15-year-old Dalit girl that continued for two years, leading to her pregnancy. The case came to light on June 9 after the victim filed a complaint, with police registering charges under POCSO Act , SC/ST Atrocities Act, and BNS. Six suspects were arrested on June 9, including Achampalli Vardhan, Talari Murali, Badagorla Nandavardhan Raj, Arencheru Nagaraju, Boya Sanjeev, and Budida Rajanna, aged between 21 and 51 years. Seven more arrests followed on June 10, while the main accused remains at large. "In this heinous case, the accused were identified, traced, and arrested with coordination by special teams under Dharmavaram subdivision," said Sri Satya Sai district Superintendent of Police V Ratna at a press conference. The investigation revealed that the perpetrators allegedly blackmailed the victim using inappropriate images and videos. The girl, now eight months pregnant, is receiving treatment at a government hospital in Ananthapur district, with doctors ruling out abortion due to the advanced pregnancy stage. Police are working with the Child Welfare Committee to relocate the girl post-delivery. They have requested permission for DNA testing of the unborn child for legal proceedings. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 임플란트, 지금 시작하세요 [자세히 보기] 임플란트 더 알아보기 Undo "Despite being pregnant for eight months, no local alerted the officials. We believe caste stigma and fear led to the community's silence over the repeated abuse," said a police official. The victim, a government school student, comes from a vulnerable background with her mother working as a laborer and father deceased. Police suspect this situation made them susceptible to community pressure and silence. Some villagers allegedly pressured the girl to marry one of the accused to close the case. Police are investigating possible lapses by school, health, and child protection officials. Several arrested individuals have criminal records. Special teams have been formed to apprehend those still absconding. The arrested accused are in judicial custody, and the minor has been placed under the Juvenile Justice Board. The district administration has committed to ensuring the victim's safety, medical care, legal support, and psychological assistance during recovery. They are investigating the case and examining potential institutional oversights. (The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)

Uncles came home to meet 9-year-old's father and drank. Then they raped her
Noida: "I just sit in one place all day." Whether it's about herself, her family, her school, or how she spends her days, nine-year-old Manju (name changed) says little. When we met her on Friday morning, she was running a temperature and had to leave soon to record her statement before the Child Welfare Commission (CWC). If it was a rare morning when she had both her parents by her side, her vacant expression betrayed nothing, her hands firmly clasped. Do you have friends, we ask her. "No," comes the reply. Do you like chocolates? "No." How about ice cream? "No." Her manner began to change soon after school closed for summer vacations on May 15. Both parents were at hand but neither noticed the girl withdrawing into a shell. Every other afternoon, the house – a small servant's quarter of a bungalow of a township in central Noida – had guests. Three of them, her father's friends. They would sit with him and drink. Her father would drink the most, till he passed out. But the friends wouldn't leave when he did. They would, instead, walk up to her next. One day, a packet of chips, another day, chocolates. When they called her "Gudiya", it would make her freeze. The touch would make her recoil. For a month, the three men sexually assaulted her. She could not confide in her alcoholic, ill-tempered father. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Laxmi Ji Idol For Wealth, Peace & Happiness Luxeartisanship Shop Now Undo Her mother was not available – busy with her other family, after she divorced and married again, though a court had ordered she would stay with her. The horrifying sexual exploitation the girl she went through would reveal itself when a doctor examined her on June 17 and asked some questions. She had fallen ill and had high fever. Her father had taken her to the district hospital in Sector 30. "When the doctor asked her if she was feeling any pain during the examination, she pointed to her chest and groin. When the doctor prodded a little further, the child revealed what happened. She said 'three uncles' had stripped and assaulted her repeatedly for nearly a month," a medical staffer at the hospital told TOI. During an examination that followed, no external injuries were found, sources said. "We informed her father and asked him to report the matter to the police," a hospital employee said. "But he began arguing with us. So, we called the police." Police took a statement from her father, and an FIR was filed on June 18. The three men identified by the girl, a security guard, a driver and a man who irons clothes, were arrested. On Friday, as Manju was produced before CWC, she was unable to give a statement. Dr KC Virmani, chairperson of CWC, told TOI, "The child was silent and is displaying signs of trauma. She has been sent to a childcare institute for the time being. She will stay there till it can be assessed that her family environment is safe for her. We have also ordered that her statement should be recorded at the magisterial court on Monday. We will be holding multiple sessions of counselling with the child to speak to her till she feels comfortable to share what happened to her. She will also be sent to a govt hospital for psycho-analysis in line with procedures for safety of children." One of police investigators in the case told TOI the girl's sudden illness was a blessing in disguise. "This case might not have come to light had she not fallen ill and the accused would have continued to exploit her," the officer said. Based on the father's complaint, a case under sections 137(2) (kidnapping) and 75 (sexual harassment) of BNS, along with relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act was registered at Sector 20 police station. After the medical exam, rape charges were added to the FIR. "Over the last month, the three accused took turns on different occasions and raped her," a police officer said.

2 infants sold to childless couples for Rs 5L each rescued from Delhi, 2 held
Agra: Two six-month-old infants allegedly sold to childless couples for Rs 5 lakh each, were rescued by Hathras police from Naveen Puri and Vikas Puri areas of Delhi, police said on Friday. Two women, Madhu and Sonia (only first names available), in their late 30s, both residents of Delhi, were found to be involved in the child trafficking racket, and arrested on Thursday. Hathras SSP Chiranjeev Nath Sinha said, "The two accused as well as the couples are being questioned, and investigation is underway." Hathras DSP Yogendra Krishna Narayan said, "A case was registered against the two women under BNS section 143-(3) (5) (human trafficking)." Meanwhile, the infants were presented before the child welfare committee (CWC) and admitted to the district hospital. Police said the committee will convene again over their future custody as their biological parents have not been traced yet. The development comes a month after an inter-state child trafficking gang targeting couples who failed IVF treatments was busted by Hathras police on May 16. Six accused, including alleged kingpin Mallika Arjun from Andhra Pradesh, have been arrested so far. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo The racket came to light after a four-year-old boy, who was abducted from Hathras on May 9, was rescued from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, following an extensive investigation involving five police teams and review of over 500 CCTV footage. Police said the gang's modus operandi was to obtain details of couples undergoing IVF treatments from fertility centres, and approach those whose procedures failed. Taking advantage of their emotional vulnerability, the gang would offer them a child for Rs 3-5 lakh. "Once a deal was made, the gang members would begin looking for a "suitable" child. The gang primarily targeted poor families in dire financial need. If the parents agreed to sell the child, the transaction was done secretly. If not, the child would be abducted and later sold to the interested couple," said Sinha. "The gang first selected a target, then rented a house near the child's location and got close to the child's family. Once they gained trust, they took photographs of the child and sent across for approval by prospective buyers," the SSP said.
