ITV The Chase's Anne Hegerty admits she 'hopes' no more co-stars join show

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info The Chase star Anne Hegerty, also known as The Governess, has revealed the show's unique payment structure and explained why she doesn't want any more Chasers joining her. Despite having an estimated net worth of £3.2 million thanks to the show's popularity, Anne stated that the Chasers do not have a fixed salary and instead get paid per episode. At the TV Choice Awards, Anne explained why the Chasers might not welcome a new team member. When asked about the possibility of a new Chaser, she replied: "Well we do always hope not." The I'm a Celebrity star further explained: "We are paid per show, so we're not on a salary. "It's not as if they're going to up the budget and add a new salary, a new Chaser would just mean the same number of shows shared between more people - so less money for everyone. So, hope not!" Although a new Chaser would mean less money for the existing ones, Anne mentioned she doesn't hold a grudge against Darragh Ennis, also known as The Menace, who joined the show in 2020. Anne stated: "You know, Darragh has been a very good new addition, he's very popular, and that's worthwhile." (Image: ITV/REX/Shutterstock) She also mentioned that despite their competitive nature on the show, the Chasers get along well, reports the Daily Record. "We know each other, and certainly on Beat the Chasers we tend to hang out a lot, because we're all there at the same time," she shared. Anne remarked to the Mirror last November about her surprisingly thrifty nature, explaining: "I'm half Scottish. We don't spend money and, being a fat person, I can only buy from certain places. "I like my money sitting in my bank and representing a bit of security. I don't see the point in sloshing money around. I'm not frugal, I'd actually say I'm mean." (Image: ITV) Despite her ample fortune, Anne is no stranger to cutting corners, sharing tales of days when she depended on benefits while carving out a career as a journalist prior to her fame on The Chase. Even though cutting back is her norm, Anne enjoys her fair share of splurges, shuttling between abodes in Manchester and Watford to stay close to her television commitments. She also flies in the lap of luxury via first class or business for travel, and not shying away from 'Club Med' holidays to serve her quiz-travelling agendas. The Chase Celebrity Special will air this Saturday at 7pm on ITV1 and ITVX.

Bradley Walsh taken aback by player's previous TV appearance

The Chase host was left offended by one contestant's remark during the latest edition of the ITV quiz show, which saw Fiona, Becky, Derek and Amitabh take part Bradley Walsh was taken aback by a contestant's comment on The Chase. Fiona, Becky, Derek and Amitabh were the quartet hoping to showcase their trivia prowess on the ITV quiz show. Amitabh, hailing from Delhi, India, was the first to pit his wits against one of Britain's top quizzers, in this instance, Mark Labbett, also known as The Beast. Having relocated to the UK merely five years ago, some queries proved to be quite challenging. ‌ Nonetheless, Amitabh demonstrated his impressive general knowledge, racking up £6,000 in his Cash Builder round. Host Bradley remarked: "For a dude that's only been in the country for five years you played an absolute blinder." ‌ In his head-to-head with The Beast, Amitabh made a promising start but found himself in a difficult one question shoot-out. Regrettably, his stint on the ITV quiz show was cut short when he was caught by The Chaser. He then heard Bradley's feared phrase: "For you, The Chase is over" and he left with nothing. Next up was Becky from Birmingham, who hoped to leave a better impression, reports the Liverpool Echo. She secured £8,000 in the rapid-fire question round and managed to clinch a spot in the final. Derek from Wirral followed in Becky's successful path, earning a place in the final chase and boosting the shared prize pot to £14,000. Bradley was left dumbstruck when contestant Fiona from Oldham confessed she'd been on BBC One's Pointless before facing The Beast on The Chase. The ITV host lost for words after Fiona's revelation, quipped with a tongue-in-cheek jab: "I shouldn't have mentioned Pointless." ‌ Bradley playfully ribbed: "So we're your second choice basically." Fiona quickly reassured him: "Never Brad, I've obviously been dying to get on the show." Fiona didn't clinch victory on Pointless and joined forces with Becky and Derek, hoping for better fortunes on The Chase. ‌ Bradley couldn't resist a slight tease, stating: "Not in a million years are you going to win now." He then threw an impossible question her way: "Here's your first question, what's my mum Margaret's third middle name?" ‌ After jabbing her with the mock question, Bradley lamented: "Pointless! Are you kidding me?" Returning to the game, Fiona impressively made it through to the final chase, contributing £20,000 to the prize fund. Despite an admirable effort with 19 steps ahead of The Beast, the Chaser caught Fiona, Becky, and Derek with just three seconds spare. Following their narrow defeat, Bradley couldn't resist another jibe: "Well, there's always Pointless." The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV1 and ITVX.

ITV The Chase viewers 'sickened' as Scots contestants lose out on huge cash prize by seconds

ITV The Chase viewers weren't happy with the Chaser's questions. One Scots contestant appeared on The Chase on Monday night but lost out on his share of £61,000, leaving fans frustrated. Viewers tuning into the ITV show branded it 'sickening' as the commercial operations specialist went home with nothing. Fraser, from Edinburgh, was on the hopeful panel of players alongside Kerry, Ellena and Alex. Fraser, who works for an online review firm, was the last to take on the Chaser, The Vixen. ‌ Fraser told host Bradley Walsh that if he won the jackpot., he would put it towards visiting every Disney park in the world. He accumulated £5,000 in his Cash Builder ahead of a tough game against Jenny Ryan. ‌ Fraser managed to get back to the team after bagging himself a spot in the final chase. He wasn't the only Scottish person to make it through, with Alex from Fife joining him, alongside Kerry. The trio had collectively banked £61,000 and achieved a combined score of 20. But it proved not to be enough to actually take home the cash prize. Kerry, Alex and Fraser were caught by The Vixen with just twelve seconds remaining. Despite a great performance throughout the show, the team went home empty-handed. However, viewers seemed to feel The Vixen was dealt an 'easier' hand. Many took to social media to discuss her triumph. One penned: "Much easier questions for the vixen." ‌ Another added: "What easy questions for Jenny!" A third posted: "Much easier questions for the chaser, as per." One even said: "What a p**s take that was. The questions for the chaser were so simple." ‌ Last week, show host Bradley Walsh opened up on his role on the Chase. In 2009, Bradley took the reins as host of ITV's quiz phenomenon, marking a strategic shift in his professional path. Walsh detailed how he snagged the opportunity to host The Chase after popping into ITV studios to enquire about presenting jobs. While reminiscing during a conversation with the former head of daytime TV, she mentioned an upcoming quiz show concept, prompting Bradley's feedback. Recounting their discussion, Bradley shared: "I took it away and I said 'Yes, this can work, this will work' and she said, 'Okay, well we're going to make a pilot' and I said, 'I'll do it for you' and she said, 'Yeah, but it's only an office run-through' and I said, 'I'll do it for you, don't worry'." ‌ During an appearance on the Tommy Tiernan show last year, he remembered kick-starting the pilot and devising the monikers for The Chasers. Fast forward nearly 16 years, Bradley's enthusiasm for The Chase hasn't waned, and he has no intention of quitting anytime soon. In conversation with the Daily Mail, he mused: "Until people say they've had enough and start switching off, I'll do it. We've had such an extraordinary time together. It's the best job in the world." The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
