Chad Powers Teaser: Glen Powell Is All Set To Make A Comeback In College Football
Last Updated: In Chad Powers, Glen Powell plays Russ Holliday, a former college quarterback whose negligent behaviour results in the end of his athletic career. Glen Powell is set to bring his American charm to the upcoming Hulu original series Chad Powers. The sports comedy, inspired by a 2022 ESPN+ sketch from Eli Manning's docuseries Eli's Places, features the Top Gun: Maverick star as a fictional football player with a secret identity. Created by Glen Powell and Michael Waldron, the show, set in the world of Southern College football, has football fans and Internet buzzing mostly for its titular character – Chad Powers but why? Here we explain. The upcoming sports comedy has Powell playing Russ Holliday, a former college quarterback whose negligent behaviour results in the end of his athletic career. Determined to make a comeback, he goes undercover as Chad Powers and joins a struggling southern football team to revive his career. Powell's transformation for the role includes a wig, prosthetic nose and moustache, making him look totally 'unrecognisable' in the teaser dropped recently. Releasing September 20 on Hulu. — DiscussingFilm (@DiscussingFilm) June 14, 2025 Chad Powers is not just a fiction. The character first originated in 2022 when NFL legend Eli Manning went undercover to experience walk-on tryouts at Penn State for his docuseries. He developed a persona as a substitute teacher and carpenter, completed by prosthetics which he gets from a professional makeup artist. The reason – Manning wanted to explore the history of college football through the eyes of real players and coaches. Earlier in a chat with Variety, Manning shared, 'The love for Chad Powers has surprised me in spectacular ways." He added, 'I played 16 years in the NFL, but now when I'm in a restaurant or walking through an airport, it's not uncommon for fans to scream, 'Hey Chad!' I'm so excited to team up with my friends Glen Powell, Michael Waldron and Omaha Productions to continue to tell the Chad Powers story and see what he does next." Chad Powers will premiere on Hulu on September 30. The first two episodes will be released immediately, followed by weekly releases every Tuesday. The show went on floors last year in August and is produced by 20thTelevision, Anomaly Pictures, ESPN and Omaha Productions. Tony Yacenda is the director of the much-awaited project. Besides Glen Powell, the cast also includes Steve Zahn, Perry Mattfeld, Toby Huss, Wynn Everett and Frankie A Rodriguez in key roles. First Published: June 17, 2025, 13:32 IST

Glen Powell transforms into ‘ugly' Chad Powers in new trailer
The post Glen Powell transforms into 'ugly' Chad Powers in new trailer appeared first on ClutchPoints. A new trailer has dropped for Hulu's Chad Powers series, and star Glen Powell transforms into the 'ugly' college football quarterback. The new trailer begins with Powell's character Russ Holliday's epic fail that nearly ends his football career. He dropped the ball while celebrating into the end zone, resulting in fans throwing every insult at him, from 'Dumpster fire' to 'Good luck flipping burgers!!!' While this would be a devastating mistake for any player, he says, 'There's no such thing as bad press.' 'Everyone says I'm done with football,' he said. 'If I can't play as Russ, I'll play as someone else!' Of course, Russ then goes undercover as Chad Powers to walk on at another college. The teaser shows him having makeup and prosthetics applied as he transforms into his new self. 'He's like extremely ugly,' a cheerleader for his team says. Fans do not have to wait much longer for the premiere of Chad Powers. It will have a two-episode premiere on September 30, 2025. Powell co-created the series with Michael Waldron, who previously created Loki for Marvel. They co-wrote the script for the first episode together as well. Powell and Waldron will also serve as executive producers of the show alongside Peyton and Eli Manning. The series is based on the sketch by Eli Manning. He went undercover during a Penn State walk-on tryout, wowing the coaching staff and other hopefuls trying out. In the fictionalized series, Russ Holiday nearly ends his collegiate football career with his crucial mistake. So, he attempts to walk on to another program that is struggling, playing under the name Chad Powers. Powell will lead the series. Steve Zahn, Toby Huss, Perry Mattfield, and Cayne Crawford will also star in the series. Additionally, the 'Hawk Tuah' girl, Haliey Welch, is set to appear in it. Chad Powers will begin the fall of Powell. He is also set to star in Edgar Wright's Running Man adaptation. It is an adaptation of Stephen King's novel of the same name. Glen Powell takes a page out of Hannah Montana's book in new teaser for football-comedy Chad Powers; take a look
Glen Powell is back — and he's leaning all the way into being Glen Powell. The Top Gun: Maverick star has a new role that feels tailor-made for his charming-jock energy. In the just-dropped teaser for Chad Powers, Powell transforms into a fictional football player with a mullet, swagger, and secret identity. If you thought Powell had already hit peak Powell, think again. But who exactly is Chad Powers, and why are football fans and internet users buzzing? The upcoming Hulu comedy follows Russ Holliday, a disgraced college quarterback who still dreams of making it big. In a last-ditch effort to revive his football career, he goes undercover as 'Chad Powers' and joins a struggling southern football team. Think Ted Lasso, but swap the moustache for a wig and some good old-fashioned southern grit. Here's the fun twist: Chad Powers is not just fiction. He first appeared in 2022, when NFL legend Eli Manning wanted to experience walk-on tryouts at Penn State. As part of his ESPN+ docuseries Eli's Places, he slapped on a wig and prosthetics to go undercover as — you guessed it — Chad Powers. The clip quickly went viral. Manning's goal? To explore the history of college football through the eyes of real players and coaches. But what stuck with fans most was Chad's hilarious blend of clueless charm and gridiron ambition.'The love for Chad Powers has surprised me in spectacular ways,' Manning said. 'I played 16 years in the NFL, but now when I'm in a restaurant or walking through an airport, it's not uncommon for fans to scream, 'Hey Chad!'' He added, 'I'm so excited to team up with my friends Glen Powell, Michael Waldron and Omaha Productions to continue to tell the Chad Powers story and see what he does next.' Once the original video exploded online, Omaha Productions, Peyton Manning's company, was flooded with fan requests for more Chad content. And so, the Ted Lasso-style comedy was born. Hulu has now greenlit a half-hour scripted series starring Powell, with Manning cheering from the sidelines. As expected, social media had a field day reacting to the teaser. One user wrote, 'I'm definitely excited for this, but am I the only one who kinda wishes Eli still played the character?' Another chimed in: 'So basically… Hannah Montana but with football and facial hair.' One X comment perfectly summed up the vibe: 'This sounds like a hilarious twist on sports comedies. Can't wait to see Glen Powell's performance!' Another added, 'Late 30s Glen Powell? That's a choice…' while a fan gushed, 'GP is pure charisma. Will 100% watch.' And honestly? Same. With Glen Powell bringing his all-American charm and Eli Manning's viral alter ego at the heart of it, Chad Powers might just become the next big thing in feel-good football comedy. The show is expected to release on September 20.

Glen Powell goes undercover as quarterback Chad Powers in Hulu football comedy teaser
Hulu has released the first teaser for its upcoming comedy series Chad Powers, starring Glen Powell as a disgraced college quarterback attempting a secret comeback. The series will premiere with its first two episodes on September 30. In the teaser, which debuted during Game 4 of the NBA Finals, Powell plays Russ Holliday, a once-promising quarterback whose career collapses after a major blunder on the field. Facing public backlash and mockery on social media, Russ decides to reinvent himself by going undercover as 'Chad Powers,' complete with a wig and prosthetic nose, in an attempt to rejoin football anonymously. 'If I can't play as Russ, I'll play as someone else,' Powell's character declares in the clip. Despite his unusual appearance, the teaser shows Chad impressing teammates on the field while drawing humorous remarks off it — including a cheerleader who quips, 'He's, like, extremely ugly.' The series also stars Perry Mattfeld, Quentin Plair, Wynn Everett, Frankie A. Rodriguez, and Steve Zahn. The pilot was co-written by Powell and Michael Waldron. Chad Powers is based on a comedic sketch from Eli's Places, produced by NFL Films and Omaha Productions for ESPN+. Deadline's Sound & Screen At SXSW London Saw Honor For Oscar Winner Anne Dudley And Music From ‘Chad Powers', ‘Shrinking' & More
Deadline's Sound & Screen event made its London debut during SXSW London on Saturday, honoring Oscar-winning composer Anne Dudley and featuring live performances from hit screen projects, including Shrinking and Arcane. On a rainy summer's day in London, Deadline provided a ray of musical sunshine for a packed audience at the historic Shoreditch Church. Dudley, who won an Academy prize for her work on The Full Monty, took to the stage to perform a medley of her work, including Poldark and Jeeves and Wooster. More from Deadline 'Cielo' Producers Talk Opportunities & Challenges Of Shooting In Bolivia: "It's Such An Extraordinary And Diverse Landscape" Tony Awards 2025: The Musical Performances Deadline's Tony Awards Live Blog She was awarded Sound & Screen's inaugural Impact Award, with Baz Bamigboye, Deadline columnist and master of ceremonies, presenting her with the prize following her performance. Dudley said the award would sit alongside her Oscar, Grammy, Brit, and Ivor Novello prizes, telling Bamigboye that there had been a 'sea change' in the opportunities for women in music and film. She also looked ahead to her next project, PBS Masterpiece's sweeping period drama The Forsytes, which is due to premiere this year. Dudley confirmed a second series is filming this summer. The lineup also included the composers: Natalie Holt with Chad Powers; Tom Howe with Shrinking and Dog Man; Nainita Desai with Love & Rage: Munroe Bergdorf and Secrets of the Penguin; and Alex Seaver with Arcane. Howe revealed that he planned to be involved in Season 4 of Ted Lasso, building on his work on previous seasons of Apple TV+'s Emmy-winning series. Filming starts in July/August, Howe confirmed, after he performed music from Shrinking, which is also featured on Apple. Elsewhere, Desai talked about her love of scoring natural history and why she felt connected to Love & Rage: Munroe Bergdorf, the documentary that premiered at SXSW on Friday. Holt discussed getting her head around American Football for Chad Powers, the upcoming Hulu series starring Glen Powell. Desai summed up her role like this: 'With film and TV composers, we have this kind of superpower. We have this ability to be able to manipulate people's emotions and make them feel something.' Fittingly, as Sound & Screen reached London, there was a musical tribute to Abbey Road, the iconic recording studio nestled in the north-west of the English capital. Instantly recognizable feature scores for Harry Potter, Goldeneye, and Jurassic World were performed. Mirek Stiles, head of audio products at Abbey Road Studios, told Deadline's Stewart Clarke that there were ongoing 'conversations' with Sam Mendes about recording the score for his four Beatles films at the studio. The Music Box Ensemble provided the orchestra for the event. Steve Morris and Marianne Haynes played violin, Triona Milne was on the viola, Chris Allen was the celloist, Kat Tinker was the pianist, Tommy Emmerton provided guitar, Chris Hill played the bass, and Ralph Salmins was on drums. Sound & Screen was produced in partnership with Abbey Road, PRS for Music, ASCAP, BMI, SCL and AWFC. { pmcCnx({ settings: { plugins: { pmcAtlasMG: { iabPlcmt: 1, }, pmcCnx: { singleAutoPlay: 'auto' } } }, playerId: "32fe25c4-79aa-406a-af44-69b41e969e71", mediaId: "e61910c9-95f0-4053-a1ad-f87c2449ee08", }).render("connatix_player_e61910c9-95f0-4053-a1ad-f87c2449ee08_2"); }); Best of Deadline Sean 'Diddy' Combs Sex-Trafficking Trial Updates: Cassie Ventura's Testimony, $10M Hotel Settlement, Drugs, Violence, & The Feds A Full Timeline Of Blake Lively & Justin Baldoni's 'It Ends With Us' Feud In Court, Online & In The Media Where To Watch All The 'John Wick' Movies: Streamers That Have All Four Films
