Education ministry forms panel to cut coaching centre dependance

The Union Ministry of Education has set up an eleven-member panel to deliberate on concerns regarding the coaching centre ecosystem and suggest measures to reduce students' dependency on these centres for their transition to higher education. To be chaired by Higher Education Secretary Vineet Joshi, the panel also includes the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) chairman, joint secretaries from the departments of school and higher education, and representatives from three IITs — Madras, Trichy and Kanpur — as well as the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). According to the order accessed by Business Standard, the panel will examine the reasons behind the emergence of dummy schools and their role in encouraging full-time coaching at the cost of formal schooling, and will suggest ways to mitigate the issue. This comes after the CBSE, in March 2025, barred students enrolled in dummy schools from appearing for the Class 12 examinations. Dummy schools are institutions where students are officially enrolled but are not required to attend regular classes. These schools are often associated with students preparing for competitive entrance exams like the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for engineering courses and the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for medical courses. Calling the initiative a much-needed step towards reimagining schooling in the country, Dr Ameeta Mulla Wattal, chairperson and executive director, Education, Innovations and Training at DLF Foundation Schools and Scholarship Programmes, said the move helps reclaim school systems that have been rendered irrelevant — particularly at the senior level — due to the rise of dummy schools. The committee will also examine gaps in the current schooling system, particularly the limited focus on critical thinking and logical reasoning, and the prevalence of rote learning. Dr Wattal added that there needs to be discussion on the misalignment between school and coaching curricula, noting that an exam-centric system of rote learning may not help students develop academic depth in their subjects. It has also been tasked with evaluating awareness levels among students and parents regarding multiple career pathways and career counselling. The panel will additionally review advertising practices, including the use of misleading claims and promotion of selective success stories, and suggest measures to address the issue. This comes after the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) issued guidelines last year for the Prevention of Misleading Advertisements in the Coaching Sector, in response to growing concerns about exaggerated success rates, misleading claims and unfair contracts often imposed by coaching institutes.

CBSE Supplementary Exam 2025 Class 10, 12: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a reminder to principals of CBSE-affiliated schools regarding the submission of the List of Candidates (LOC) for the CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 Board Supplementary Exams 2025. The last date for LOC submission without a late fee is June 17, and with a late fee is June 19. The CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 supplementary exams are scheduled to be held on July 15. The exams will be based on the 2024-25 academic session syllabus. Important Instructions: Schools must submit the LOC for all students placed in the compartment category, even if they are unable to contact them. Schools must also submit the LOC for students who have applied for verification of marks, re-evaluation, or both-without waiting for the results. Non-submission of a student's name will forfeit their opportunity to appear in the supplementary examinations. The Board has urged all principals to ensure the LOC is submitted within the stipulated schedule. Eligibility For CBSE Supplementary Exams 2025 Only students declared as compartment candidates in the CBSE Class 10 or Class 12 board examinations for 2025 are eligible to apply for the supplementary exams. These students must approach their respective schools for sponsorship and for submission of the LOC. Schools are responsible for coordinating with these students and ensuring timely registration. Only students whose details are included in the LOC submitted by the schools will be permitted to appear for the supplementary exams. Steps For LOC Submission for CBSE Supplementary Exams 2025 Schools need to log in to the official portal using their CBSE affiliation number as the user ID and the designated password to complete the LOC submission process. CBSE Supplementary Exam 2025: Schedule and Syllabus The Class 10, 12 supplementary examinations are scheduled for July 15. The syllabus for the exams will be same as of 2024-25 session, available at Students with compartment status are advised to contact their schools promptly to confirm their registration.

Social science provides the lens through which we understand the complexity of human society, history, geography, civics, and economics, while mathematics offers the tool for deductive reasoning. It is more crucial for social science exams under the CBSE to understand the intricate network of ideas and events that have contributed to our current state and will further influence our future than it is to memorize dates and facts. One of the primary benefits of success in social science is that it enables us to gain a balanced view. We can learn from past mistakes and successes by examining history. From geography, we know about the distribution of resources and the diverse surface we inhabit. Civics encourages an informed and participatory population by educating us regarding our duties and rights as citizens. Economics explains how societies produce wealth and allocate their resources. In combination, all these social science disciplines provide a complete picture of the world. Also, social science on CBSE exams often requires interpretive and analytical skills. Apart from recalling facts, students need to be able to analyze causes and effects, compare different perspectives, and draw reasonable conclusions. Thisdevelops critical thinking and effective argumentation, two skills that are essential in academic writing, debating, and professional communication. Social science often encourages a multiple-perspective understanding and exploration of different viewpoints, unlike math, which usually has right or wrong answers. For those students who enjoy reading, analyzing, and writing, social science is an excellent subject from a marks perspective. Good marks can be achieved through the skill of writing well-structured answers with relevant examples, although this requires an in-depth understanding of the topic. Moreover, it creates a useful break from mathematics' focus on numbers, engaging a different part of the brain and presenting a comprehensive learning experience. The notion that social science and mathematics exist as distinct domains is erroneous. They complement each other in many instances. For example, statistical analysis, a mathematical skill, can significantly enhance the comprehension of economic principles in the social sciences. Trends and patterns can be identified by mathematically examining past data. However, the historical context that social science provides can sometimes provide insights into the development of specific scientific findings or mathematical concepts. A student must perform well in all subjects to achieve a high overall score. Apart from this, the skills acquired by social science (critical thinking, analytical interpretation, informed citizenship) and mathematics (logical reasoning, problem-solving) are of prime importance in progressing to postsecondary schooling. Ultimately, it is impossible to overestimate the significance of social science and mathematics in CBSE exams. They are subjects that provide students with vital information and irreplaceable abilities, not merely topics to be cleared. Students who regularly strive to understand and excel in both math and social science are not only able to achieve high scores on their CBSE examinations, but they are also establishing a solid foundation for a future filled with sound reasoning, informed choices, and a comprehensive understanding of the world around them. CBSE Supplementary Examination 2025: LOC filing without late fee ends tomorrow

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will end the List of Candidates (LOC) submission without late fee for the Class 10 and 12 board examination, 2025 tomorrow, June 17. The deadline for LOC submission with a late fee is June 19. In a recent notification, the CBSE asked candidates not to wait for re-verification and re-evaluation results and to ensure the LOC is submitted within the given time. Also read: Orchid School under fire for operating without CBSE affiliation 'It is desired that all students who wish to appear in Supplementary Examinations may apply within schedule. Also, all students who are eligible and intend to appear in the Supplementary Examination are advised not to wait for the result of the verification/reevaluation process and to ensure that LOC is submitted within the stipulated time frame,' the board said. Only those students whose names are submitted online will be allowed to appear for supplementary examinations, 2025. Schools can use their affiliation numbers as user IDs and the passwords to submit the LOC. Students who appeared for the Class 10, 12 board exams as regular students and whose results have been shown as compartmental need to visit their schools for sponsorship of their names for the supply exam. Schools are also required to connect such students and inform about the supplementary examination. Also read: CBSE allows students who studied Basic Math in 10th to take Mathematics in 11th The CBSE will conduct the Class 12th supplementary examination on July 15, 2025 (only on a single day). The Class 10 supplementary examination will start on July 15. The datesheet will be shared on the official website. The supplementary examination 2025 will be conducted based on the 2024-25 board exam syllabus, which is available on the CBSE academic website.
