Jamie Carragher's Liverpool theory with Arne Slot unable to copy Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool have come flying out of the blocks in this summer's transfer window, but Jamie Carragher is not convinced Arne Slot will have the same power as Jurgen Klopp Despite Liverpool's busy start to the transfer window, Jamie Carragher does not believe Arne Slot will have the same influence on outgoings and incomings as Jurgen Klopp. After winning the Premier League, the Reds are heavily backing Slot in the transfer window. They have already snapped up Jeremie Frimpong and are still chasing down lucrative deals for Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez from Bayer Leverkusen and Bournemouth. Despite being constrained to the sole acquisition of Federico Chiesa in his first transfer windows as Liverpool boss, the Dutchman appears to be fully supported in the current market. ‌ However, with the likes of Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz being linked to Bayern Munich and Barcelona, the possibility of Liverpool selling players also cannot be overlooked either. If Slot decided he wanted to keep players like the aforementioned duo, then Carragher does not believe the ex-Feyenoord manager would be able to stop them, if the club decided they had to go to raise money. ‌ On 'The Overlap', Carragher painted a picture of the behind-the-scenes dynamics, saying: "We know a little bit of what's gone on behind the scenes. They've brought all the old transfer people back if you like. They had a falling out with Klopp, but they're back now running the club. "The great thing they built with Klopp, this great team and then they moved away as Klopp got more power. I think players who have been legends for the club and won the biggest trophies, were given contracts and were allowed to stay at Liverpool longer, too long basically. "That's why Liverpool fell off for a little bit and then came back. I think the way they want to run Liverpool is that they are not going to sell their absolute best players. "But a Diaz or a Gakpo, who are good players, they wouldn't want to sell them, but if someone made them an offer, that they think 'That's more than what we think (they are worth)' I think that's the way it will be run now, it will be like 'Oh no, he's gone and we back ourselves to go again'. "That's what I mean in terms of those getting linked. I'm like 'No you wouldn't want to sell those' but they are probably thinking, 'If you offer us enough money we will do it'. I think the club will be like that now." ‌ Carragher's comments come as Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a record-breaking transfer deal for Wirtz, with a £109million offer already rejected by Leverkusen. The Bundesliga club, who are now managed by ex-Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, are understood to be demanding £125m to part with the German international. If Liverpool meet that fee, it would not only shatter the club's transfer record, it would also break the Premier League record, which is currently held by Chelsea, when they forked out £115m to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion. ‌ But while Liverpool are willing to back their manager, the Dutchman's influence will only go so far, in Carragher's eyes. The ex-Liverpool defender added: "Arne Slot is called the head coach. "He's the first head coach in Liverpool history. Even though he has won the league in his first season, I don't think they're going to allow what happened with Jurgen Klopp. "He was making these bigger decisions and he was a god and everyone loves him. I think there could be a few surprises who may go if Liverpool get offered the right money."

Jamie Carragher Shares his Thoughts on Liverpool's Summer Transfer Plans

Liverpool's Summer Shake-Up: Carragher Predicts Surprise Sales Amid Slot's Transfer Drive Liverpool are not simply basking in the glory of a title-winning campaign under Arne Slot, they are already looking ahead. With the Dutchman delivering the Premier League in his first season, expectations have shifted from cautious optimism to sustained dominance. Advertisement This new era at Anfield has made one thing clear — there's no time for sentimentality. Even with a historic campaign fresh in memory, Liverpool know they must evolve. And that evolution, as Jamie Carragher suggests, could come with a few shocks along the way. Carragher Warns of Surprise Exits in the Transfer Window Jamie Carragher, who needs no introduction in red circles, believes that Liverpool may yet spring a surprise or two in the transfer market. Speaking on The Overlap's Fan Debate, the former defender speculated that unexpected departures could be part of the club's summer strategy. 'But in terms of those getting linked, I'm like, no, you wouldn't want to sell those, but they're probably thinking, but if someone offers enough money, oh, we will do it,' Carragher remarked. Photo: IMAGO It's not just about trimming the edges — it's about difficult decisions that keep the squad lean and competitive. Despite winning the league, Liverpool fell short in the Champions League, losing to Paris Saint-Germain. That shortfall serves as a reminder that success in one competition doesn't guarantee supremacy elsewhere. Slot, therefore, will need a squad built not just for English battles but for Europe's elite stage too. Players Facing Uncertain Futures Under Slot There are already signs of a changing hierarchy under Arne Slot. Players who were once seen as central under Jurgen Klopp now find themselves on the fringes. Advertisement Harvey Elliott is a prime example. Once a favourite of Klopp, Elliott has found minutes harder to come by under Slot, who appears to favour Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai in midfield. The 21-year-old's cryptic message following Liverpool's 3-2 defeat to Brighton only added fuel to speculation about his future. Then there's Jarell Quansah. The young defender made 25 appearances this season but started just 13 matches. With interest from Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund, his situation is one to watch closely. Photo: IMAGO Even Joe Gomez has been preferred at centre-back when Ibrahima Konaté or Virgil van Dijk were unavailable, leaving Quansah in a supporting role. Advertisement Luis Díaz, who has been one of Liverpool's top scorers this season, is another name persistently linked with a move. Although he's stopped short of confirming anything, recent social media activity has resembled a farewell — or at least a pause for thought. Building for the Future: Incomings and Outgoings There's no suggestion that Liverpool are in panic mode. Quite the opposite — this is about calculated risk and long-term planning. Reports suggest that the club are closing in on deals for Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez. The former could bring creativity and dynamism in midfield, while the latter would strengthen the left side of defence. However, both would command significant fees, meaning departures are inevitable. Advertisement Carragher put it aptly: 'I think the club will be like that now in terms of, they wouldn't allow, cause Arne Slot's the head coach, the first head coach in Liverpool's history. 'They're never gonna allow, even though he's won the league in his first season, I don't think they're gonna allow what happened with Jürgen Klopp, where it became, he was making these bigger decisions and he's a god, everyone loves him.' Slot may have won the league, but Liverpool's structure is changing. There will be no unchecked power, no manager-as-king. Instead, decisions will be more corporate, more collaborative. And that may lead to outcomes fans don't always expect — including the sale of fan favourites.

Jamie Carragher drops Celtic Champions League claim that gets Thierry Henry saying 'don't make statements'

PSG started last night in unwelcome company but shattered through the barrier with a 5-0 win over Inter Jamie Carragher predicted there will never be another Champions League winner from smaller nations like Scotland – before Thierry Henry warned him not to make 'statements' that could come back to bite him. PSG annihilated Inter 5-0 to win the trophy last night and, incredibly, it was only the second time a team from France had won the Champions League or European Cup. ‌ Marseille's victory in 1993 had stood alone as the only French success in the competition leaving them trailing well behind the rest of the Big Five nations – with Spain, England, Italy and Germany boasting 55 between them. ‌ Prior to PSG's win they were in unwelcome company as one of four nations with only one to their name. Celtic, famously, are the only Scottish team to win the big one, the famous Lisbon Lions win in 1967 the proudest moment in their history and one that is unlikely to be repeated. Outside of that only Red Star Belgrade from the former Yugoslavia and Steaua Bucharest of Romania can boast bringing home their country's sole European Cup. ‌ The pre-match discussion centred around whether PSG would be able to break France out of that bracked, and Carragher, speaking on CBS Sports, said: 'The big thing when you look at that stats table, France are alongside Scotland, the former Yugoslavia, and Romania. Those three countries, I am quite confident, will never win a Champions League again.' That's when Arsenal legend Henry cut in: "Don't make statements!" But Carragher clarified: 'No, I just don't see that. France produces some of the best footballers in the world. Probably one of the most dominant nations in the world. It's unacceptable that they only have one Champions League winner.' ‌ PSG did in the end win a second Champions League for France, and in some style. Desire Doue was the star of the show with two goals and an assist as Inter struggled to even lay a glove on the dominant French champions, who will be hoping to rack up the European honours in the years ahead and fire France up the medal table. Revealed: Why PSG boss Luis Enrique is set to snub Jamie Carragher and CBS ahead of Champions League final

Jamie Carragher has revealed that Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique is set to snub him ahead of the Champions League final. Enrique is looking to lift PSG's first ever Champions League trophy and faces Simone Inzaghi's Inter Milan at the Allianz Arena. A win would see them become just the second French side to be crowned European champions. But the Spaniard, who has already guided the Parisians to a domestic double, is likely to refuse to speak to Carragher or CBS ahead of the game. The former England and Liverpool defender, who is part of the broadcaster's coverage for Saturday's clash, admitted that Enrique won't talk to him because he proudly sported a Dortmund scarf during last season's Champions League semi-final. PSG were dumped out of the competition by the German side at that stage last year, losing both legs 1-0. And Carragher donned Dortmund attire as he joined supporters in the Yellow Wall during the first leg at the Signal Iduna Park, later admitting to drinking eight pints on the night. After the match he kept the scarf on as he entered the mixed zone, to the ire of Enrique. 'Luis Enrique, at the moment, won't speak to us,' Carragher told It's Called Soccer podcast. 'Because last season, I was in Dortmund when his team lost to Borussia Dortmund. 'I was in the mixed zone with a Borussia Dortmund scarf on, so that didn't go down particularly well with Luis. Enrique later stormed out of a post-match interview with Carragher after objecting to his scarf. Carragher managed to get through a hilarious Q&A with Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho, but his planned discussion with the PSG boss was abruptly halted when the Spaniard took issue with the Dortmund scarf. Enrique's snub was revealed by Peter Schmeichel, who was also on punditry duty for CBS at the Westfalenstadion. 'In all seriousness, he's in the sin bin.' The United legend said. 'Seriously, he's upset every person here. First of all, were supposed to have Luis Enrique. Last year, PSG knocked out Barcelona in the quarter-finals of the competition and Enrique was quick to take a light-hearted dig at CBS' pundits, who had predicted a victory for the Catalans. 'I'm really upset with all of you,' he joked. 'I watched on YouTube, all of you predicted that Barcelona were going through to the next phase. 'Nobody believed in our possibilities. How sad I am, how sad I am.' Enrique's side have already knocked out Liverpool, Arsenal and Aston Villa out of the Champions League and are just one game away from making history in Munich.

Prior to his light-hearted feud with the CBS crew, Enrique appeared on the network's post-game show last season.
