Gujarat: Junagadh's Sakkarbaug Zoo leads nation in Indian Grey Wolf conservation success

Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 19 (ANI): India's dedication to wildlife preservation ensures that future generations can enjoy and benefit from the country's rich natural heritage. Among the many species requiring urgent attention is the Indian Grey Wolf (Canis lupus pallipes), an endangered carnivore facing threats from habitat loss and human conflict, said a statement from the CMO. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the proactive guidance of Gujarat's Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Gujarat has made remarkable progress in conserving this vital species. At the forefront of these efforts is the historic Sakkarbaug Zoo in Junagadh, designated by the Central Zoo Authority of India as the coordinating zoo for the Indian Grey Wolf Conservation Breeding Program (CBP). Through scientific management, state-of-the-art facilities, and focused breeding initiatives, Sakkarbaug Zoo has become a beacon of hope for the protection and revival of the Indian Grey Wolf, securing its place in India's natural legacy. This program for wolves is one such initiative reflecting this commitment. Through focused efforts in nutrition, healthcare, behavioral enrichment, and breeding management, the program has shown remarkable success. The year-wise birth data of wolf pups is as follows: 14 pups were born in 2019-20, 7 in 2020-21, 31 in 2021-22, 33 in 2022-23, 40 in 2023-24, and 48 in 2024-25. This indicates a steady improvement in breeding success over the years, showcasing the effectiveness of comprehensive care and conservation strategies implemented at the facility. All wolves in CBP are provided a quality diet based on their natural requirements. Additional supplements are added to their diet if required. Food items and drinking water are periodically screened at a food testing laboratory to ensure safety and quality. Regular health checks of all wolves are conducted through the collection of various samples for early disease detection and to assess the health status of each wolf. Timely medical interventions are provided whenever necessary. Each animal enclosure is equipped with a separate night shelter and kraal to protect wolves during extreme climatic conditions. A specific hygiene schedule for wolves is prepared and strictly followed. Vaccination of all wolves against prevalent diseases is carried out regularly. Deworming is done at three-month intervals. Post-vaccination, antibody protection levels are monitored by collecting relevant samples. Pairing of breeding animals is done using genetically diverse individuals. Newly paired animals are closely monitored. Compatibility is regularly assessed, and changes are made as needed. Behavioral enrichment of wolves is carried out using various methods such as nutritional, olfactory, and habitat enrichments to encourage the expression of natural behaviour in captivity. All wolves are monitored round-the-clock through CCTV cameras to observe behaviours such as mating, pregnancy, pup care, and feeding, especially those not visible in the presence of humans. After successful mating, males are separated from females to provide privacy and promote denning behaviour. Periodic hormonal monitoring of pregnant females is done by collecting samples. Medical interventions are provided as required. Additional feed supplements and focused care are ensured during pregnancy for maintaining a healthy condition. Near-natural dens and soft raw materials are provided to support den-making behaviour. For growth and health monitoring of pups, regular weighing and health assessments are conducted. Medical intervention is done as needed. As Gujarat continues to lead in wildlife conservation, the success story of the Indian Grey Wolf serves as an inspiring model for preserving biodiversity and restoring ecological balance in India's diverse landscapes. Kanpur CMO suspended after public spat with DM that exposed UP BJP rift

During his suspension period, Nemi would be attached to the Directorate General and Medical Health Services in Lucknow. According to a government order issued Thursday, Shravasti Additional Chief Medical Officer Uday Nath has been appointed as the new CMO of Kanpur. After the suspension order, Nemi addressed a press conference here, alleging the DM was 'pressuring' him to carry out 'illegal' work, and went after him since the CMO denied to oblige. Lucknow: Kanpur Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Hari Dutt Nemi was suspended Thursday after days of public spat with District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh, a dispute that threatened to cause divisions with the state BJP with party MLAs taking sides. The district magistrate and the chief medical officer were locked in a public quarrel for days. At the centre of their fight are corruption allegations against Nemi and the CMO questioning Singh's style of functioning. Singh sought the CMO's removal. Their fights also brought to the fore the differences within the BJP, with some MLAs siding with the CMO, while others with the DM. Samajwadi Party claimed that while it may appear to be a case of two officers sparring, it is actually a fight between Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his deputy Brajesh Pathak who is also state health minister. A section of BJP legislators from Kanpur, including Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana, lobbied in favour of Nemi, urging the government not to remove him. Mahana wrote to Pathak Tuesday, defending the CMO's conduct and urging he be allowed to continue in Kanpur. Mahana praised Nemi's 'people-friendly' approach and effective implementation of government health schemes. BJP MLC Arun Pathak and Govindnagar MLA Surendra Maithani wrote separate letters to the deputy chief minister, commending the CMO's 'respectful' behavior towards public representatives. However, BJP MLA from Bithoor Abhijeet Singh Sanga took a different stand and wrote to Chief Minister Adityanath, rather than Pathak. In his letter, Sanga accused Nemi of corruption and alleged the CMO was behind the circulation of controversial audio clips that allegedly maligned the district magistrate. He further claimed Nemi misbehaved with staff, disobeyed government orders, and manipulated doctor transfers for personal gain. Former BJP MLA Neeraj Chaturvedi also waded into the controversy, alleging Tuesday that the assembly speaker, without naming him, is influencing the matter in favour of the CMO. Chaturvedi sought a thorough investigation into the CMO's working style. Also Read: Sarkar vs Sangathan in UP BJP, deputy Maurya takes dig at CM Yogi — 'party bigger than govt' The controversy The controversy began after DM Singh raised concerns over the functioning of the district's health department last month. In a letter to the state government, he alleged serious irregularities in healthcare services, citing alleged deficiencies found during inspections of Community Health Centres (CHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs). He also mentioned alleged arbitrary transfers of doctors under Nemi's tenure. Singh accused the CMO of negligence and unprofessional conduct, and claimed this has contributed to the deteriorating state of health services in the district. Tensions escalated after three audio clips, purportedly featuring CMO Nemi making derogatory remarks about the DM, surfaced on social media. 'This is the only DM in 75 districts who is taking credit for everything. If any meeting can happen in 20 minutes, he takes an hour to narrate stories from all around the world and exaggerates things. Now I am seeing women who go for meetings get irritated,' he was heard saying. Nemi, however, denied it was his voice and claimed it was AI-generated. The authenticity of these audio clips has not been independently verified by ThePrint. But after the matter escalated following several complaints from health officials, district magistrate Singh wrote a letter to the principal secretary of health to remove the CMO, saying that several complaints had been received against him for not following government orders, mentally harassing district health officials and seeking bribes for transfer postings. Also on Saturday, the DM confronted the CMO about the clips during a meeting. Nemi questioned the authenticity of the recordings, claiming they were manipulated using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to malign his image. Not satisfied with the response, the DM asked the CMO to leave the meeting. Responding to the charges, Nemi reiterated his innocence and alleged a conspiracy to tarnish his image. He said his sole focus was to improve the functioning of the health department. According to sources in the district administration, the DM had flagged instances of alleged negligence on part of the CMO during multiple surprise inspections over the last few months. He planned to take action after these visits. The CMO had also been reportedly absent from the office for the past few days. In the meanwhile, a photo of a saffron towel purportedly placed on his chair went viral on social media, garnering a lot of attention. Samajwadi Party MLA Amitabh Bajpai said, 'The rift between officials and BJP MLAs is common in the state, but I feel that this issue is actually between Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak. Common people are feeling betrayed by this government as corruption has not stopped.' Bajpai hinted the DM is considered close to Chief Minister Adityanath and the CMO is in the good books of Deputy Chief Minister Pathak. Forbes Unveils Its 13th Annual List Of The World's Most Influential CMOs

NEW YORK/CANNES – June 19, 2025 – Forbes today released its 13th annual list of the World's Most Influential CMOs List, recognizing the 50 chief marketers from around the world whose work is not only driving the trajectory of their brands and businesses, but often reshaping the cultural landscape as well. Marian Lee, Chief Marketing Officer of Netflix, tops the list for the second year in a row, with Chris Davis of New Balance and Asmita Dubey of L'Oréal Groupe making up the top three. The chief marketers featured on the 2025 Forbes World's Most Influential CMOs list represent companies with a combined market cap of nearly $14 trillion, as of the close of markets on June 6th, an increase of 28% compared to the previous year. The Forbes list is data-driven, analyzing 10 billion data points from the past 12 months to get from an initial eligible universe of marketers from nearly 3000 companies to the 50 chief marketers recognized. Alongside this annual list, and for the fourth year, Forbes is inducting six CMOs into its Forbes CMO Hall of Fame, recognizing those who would have appeared on the World's Most Influentials list five times. This year's inductees are Enrico Galliera, Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer of Ferrari; Carla Hassan, CMO of JPMorgan Chase; Greg ('Joz') Joswiak, EVP Worldwide Marketing of Apple; Alex Schultz, CMO and VP Analytics of Meta; Alicia Tillman, CMO of Delta; and William White, CMO of Walmart. The market capitalization of the companies represented by these six Hall of Fame CMOs, adds another $6.35 trillion to an aggregated valuation exceeding $20 trillion. 'These 50 CMOs are the ones who pull ideas, people, resources, and strategies into their orbit,' said Seth Matlins, Managing Director of the Forbes CMO Network. 'They shape decisions far beyond the traditional remit of marketing. They eschew the mere idea of marketing's traditional remit in times that bear no similarity to anything once, now quaintly, resembling the traditional.' Forbes also named Donald Trump as the 'Unofficial #1' on the 2025 list for his singular influence over and responsibility for global uncertainty and its consequences. Matlins commented: 'Regardless of your politics or nationality, it seems fair to say that no one and nothing is having a greater cause and effect relationship on what does or doesn't come next for global consumers, CMOs, and the companies they help steward, than the current American president.' You can see this story here. The Forbes list is data driven and along with the company's primary research partner, Sprinklr, and with essential supplemental data and analysis provided by LinkedIn. This year's honorees will be celebrated at Forbes' World's Most Influential CMOs Luncheon in Cannes, bringing together the global marketing community's most influential thinkers and doers. Adobe and Salesforce are the Partner sponsors of the World's Most Influential Luncheon. Acxiom, McKinsey & Company and Valtech are the Supporting Level sponsors.
