Keegan Bradley Offers Strong Opinion on First Ryder Cup Lock
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Back in April, Scottie Scheffler made a surprising decision. Fresh off his dominant win at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, where he tied a PGA Tour record with a jaw-dropping 253, the World No. 1 had the opportunity to join his Ryder Cup teammates for an exclusive Team USA dinner. But instead, he chose family over formality, skipping the event, which also had Bryson Dechambeau and Brooks Koepka. But did it affect his impression of Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley? On Wednesday, Keegan Bradley made no secret of his enthusiasm. "Scottie is the ultimate team player, and I have no doubt that he will be ready and motivated come September," Bradley stated. "I could not be more excited to have him as a member of the U.S. Team." "Scottie is the ultimate team player and I have no doubt that he will be ready and motivated come September. His PGA Tour resume the last couple of years is becoming legendary. He didn't just win at Muirfield Village—he became the second player ever to defend his title there, a feat only Tiger Woods (1999-2001) had previously accomplished. At the PGA Championship, Scheffler stormed through Quail Hollow, putting together four clinical rounds, closing with an even-par 71 to win by five strokes. His ball-striking numbers this season? Ranks No. 1 in SG: Approach, No. 1 in SG: Tee-to-Green, and Top 3 in SG: Total. If that was not enough, Scheffler's Ryder Cup history speaks for itself His debut came at Whistling Straits in 2021, where the U.S. routed Europe 19-9. Now, as a three-time Ryder Cup player, the stage is set for him to take on Bethpage Black's fierce test. "Representing the United States at the Ryder Cup has been one of the greatest honors of my career, and I look forward to doing so for a third time this September," Scheffler said upon officially locking his spot. After Team USA's defeat in Rome in 2023, the stakes are higher than ever. "I will do whatever it takes to help our team reclaim the Cup and cannot wait to play in front of the passionate New York spectators at Bethpage Black," Scheffler added. Who will join Scottie Scheffler next? While Scheffler's seat is secured, the remaining five automatic spots are far from settled. Current rankings show Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, and Russell Henley as the frontrunners. But with Ben Griffin climbing seven places, sitting just 1,334 points behind Henley, the fight for a Ryder Cup spot is intensifying. Bradley will also announce six Captain's Picks in August, meaning Ryder Cup hopefuls still have time to make a case for themselves. For now, Scheffler stands alone as the first lock—but the race to join him is far from over. More Golf: Jack Nicklaus Shades PGA Tour Stars Amid Scottie Scheffler's Win

The top-ranked golfer in the world ran away with yet another tournament on Sudnay afternoon, this time at Muirfield Village. Jordan Spieth Shares 'Ridiculous' Scottie Scheffler Skill at The Memorial
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Moving day at the Memorial Tournament brought the biggest name in golf to the top, as Scottie Scheffler holds the outright lead by one shot at 8-under par with just 18 holes to play. Scheffler emerged from the pack late on Saturday afternoon with four birdies in his final five holes to overtake Ben Griffin, who had been the leader for almost the entire tournament up to that point. Of course, it's no surprise to see Scheffler at the top of another leaderboard. The World No. 1 has finished in the top 10 in each of his last six starts and has continued to get better and better during that stretch. Naturally, all of the talk after Saturday's round was about Scheffler. Jordan Spieth, who is having a strong week at Muirfield Village himself, highlighted one area of the three-time major champion's game that sticks out to him. "What impresses me the most is his club face control is elite," Spieth said. "It's maybe the best there's ever been as far as club face control. So his consistency is ridiculous. And then that just leads to his distance control being phenomenal. "There's a shot in and the worst he's going to do is 15 feet, and most guys are going to hit a good there, but for him that was, like, the worst shot he probably -- he's probably, like, all right, yeah, I played that safe and cast a putt out and go to tomorrow." DUBLIN, OHIO - MAY 31: Scottie Scheffler of the United States plays a shot from the 18th tee during the third round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday 2025 at Muirfield Village Golf Club on May 31, 2025 in Dublin, Ohio. More Photo byScheffler is closing in on his third win of the season. Earlier in May, he ran away with the CJ Cup Byron Nelson with an incredible score of 31-under par before lapping the field in a five-shot victory at the PGA Championship. Spieth is one of the players chasing the leader, but he will have to regroup after a bogey-bogey finish to his third round. In the end, he signed for an even-par 72 and sits in a tie for fourth, five shots off of Scheffler's pace. Not only does it seem like it would it take a Herculean effort to catch Scheffler on Sunday, it would also likely take a bad day from the best player in the world at avoiding exactly that.
