Back in April, Scottie Scheffler made a surprising decision. Fresh off his dominant win at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, where he tied a PGA Tour record with a jaw-dropping 253, the World No. 1 had the opportunity to join his Ryder Cup teammates for an exclusive Team USA dinner.
But instead, he chose family over formality, skipping the event, which also had Bryson Dechambeau and Brooks Koepka.
But did it affect his impression of Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley?

Not a chance! Instead, Scheffler's unmatched consistency this season has made him the first official lock for Team USA at Bethpage Black this November.
On Wednesday, Keegan Bradley made no secret of his enthusiasm.
"Scottie is the ultimate team player, and I have no doubt that he will be ready and motivated come September," Bradley stated.
"I could not be more excited to have him as a member of the U.S. Team."

And why not? His PGA Tour resume the last couple of years is becoming legendary.
He didn't just win at Muirfield Village—he became the second player ever to defend his title there, a feat only Tiger Woods (1999-2001) had previously accomplished.
At the PGA Championship, Scheffler stormed through Quail Hollow, putting together four clinical rounds, closing with an even-par 71 to win by five strokes.
His ball-striking numbers this season? Ranks No. 1 in SG: Approach, No. 1 in SG: Tee-to-Green, and Top 3 in SG: Total.
If that was not enough, Scheffler's Ryder Cup history speaks for itself
His debut came at Whistling Straits in 2021, where the U.S. routed Europe 19-9.
Now, as a three-time Ryder Cup player, the stage is set for him to take on Bethpage Black's fierce test.
"Representing the United States at the Ryder Cup has been one of the greatest honors of my career, and I look forward to doing so for a third time this September," Scheffler said upon officially locking his spot.

After Team USA's defeat in Rome in 2023, the stakes are higher than ever.
"I will do whatever it takes to help our team reclaim the Cup and cannot wait to play in front of the passionate New York spectators at Bethpage Black," Scheffler added.
Who will join Scottie Scheffler next?
While Scheffler's seat is secured, the remaining five automatic spots are far from settled.
Current rankings show Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, and Russell Henley as the frontrunners. But with Ben Griffin climbing seven places, sitting just 1,334 points behind Henley, the fight for a Ryder Cup spot is intensifying.
Bradley will also announce six Captain's Picks in August, meaning Ryder Cup hopefuls still have time to make a case for themselves.
For now, Scheffler stands alone as the first lock—but the race to join him is far from over.
