Joe Biden Diagnosed With ‘Aggressive Form' of Prostate Cancer
Former President Joe Biden was diagnosed Friday with prostate cancer, CNN reports. The 'aggressive form' of the disease has spread to his bones, according to a statement issued from Biden's personal office Sunday. More from TVLine Law & Order: SVU Is Bringing Kelli Giddish Back as a Series Regular Meet the Buffy Reboot's New Slayer: Ryan Kiera Armstrong to Play The Chosen One Opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar HBO Delays A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Premiere - Find Out When the Game of Thrones Prequel Will Get Underway The statement also said, 'While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,' and that the former president and his family 'are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.' On July 21, amid growing public concerns about his age, health and mental fitness, Biden made it clear that he had pulled out of the 2024 presidential election and would not seek reelection that November. He then endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee. The announcement came several weeks after his disastrous debate against former President Donald Trump, who would go on to win the election and become the 47th president of the United States. Biden's poor performance during the televised debate led to widespread calls for him to withdraw. 'Nothing, nothing can come in the way of saving our democracy, and that includes personal ambition,' he said in an Oval Office address to the nation after withdrawing from the race. But it was Armstong's acting chops that won her the role, Gellar said. 'From the moment I saw Ryan's audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side,' she said. 'To have that kind of emotional intelligence, and talent, at such a young age is truly a gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room' Gellar also recorded a video of her breaking the news to 15-year-old Armstrong that she got the part. (You can watch it below.) 'I'm so honored, thank you for trusting me,' elated Armstrong said through tears when Gellar welcomed her to new Sunnydale. She was then joined by her father, Canadian actor-producer Dean Armstrong. Lilla and Nora Zuckerman used some Buffy terminology to praise Armstrong. 'We are so overjoyed to have found this generation's slayer in Ryan Kiera Armstrong, she absolutely blew us away — there is no question in our mind that she is the chosen one,' they said. Nora and Lilla Zuckerman executive produce the pilot alongside Gellar, Zhao via her Book of Shadows banner as well as the original series' executive producers Gail Berman of the Jackal Group and Fran Kuzui & Kaz Kuzui via Suite B. Also executive producing the pilot is Dolly Parton whose company Sandollar was producer on the original. Canadian-born Armstrong has been busy since her breakout role at age 8 in the feature The Art of Racing In the Rain opposite Amanda Seyfried. Following parts in IT: Part Two, The Tomorrow War, The Glorias and Black Widow, she played the lead in the 2022 Firestarter, the co-lead opposite Nicolas Cage in The Wold Way and a main role in WIldflower. On TV, she started off with a major recurring role on Netflix's Anne with an E. Armstrong first got on 20th TV radar when the studio cast her as part of the main ensemble of FX's American Horror Story: Red Tide. She has worked for Disney ever since with a starring role opposite Jude Law on Disney+'s Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and recurring opposite Ethan Hawke on FX's upcoming The Lowdown. Armstrong is repped by Linden Entertainment and Innovative Artists. Buffy reboot casts new Sarah Michelle Gellar approved-Slayer... but fans are divided
The hotly-anticipated Buffy reboot has cast its new slayer with OG Slayer Sarah Michelle Gellar breaking the news to her new co-star. The acclaimed actress, 48, revealed Ryan Kiera Armstrong, 15, been cast as the titular character in the reboot of the WB hit, that was originally the air from 1997 to 2003. The casting decision came via a Zoom call in which Gellar asked Armstrong one very important question. 'Do you want to stand beside me and save the world?,' Gellar asked and Armstrong replied, 'I'm so honored, thank you for trusting me,' an elated Armstrong said through a mixture of tears and laughter. 'From the moment I saw Ryan's audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side,' Gellar said. 'To have that kind of emotional intelligence, and talent, at such a young age is truly a gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room.' And it was Armstrong's elated and charming reaction to the news that captured the hearts of the Buffy fan universe who are largely on the new Slayer's side. Sarah Michelle was 18 when she stepped into the Slayer's shoes. Armstrong's breakthrough role came at the age of eight in 2019's The Art of Racing in the Rain opposite Amanda Seyfried. Armstrong has also been busy in TV with a recurring role in Anne with an E on Netflix as well as FX's American Horror Story: Red Tide, Disney+'s Star Wars: Skeleton Crew with Jude Law and in a recurring role on Ethan Hawke's The Lowdown. Ryan also stepped into the role Drew Barrymore once held in the remake of Firestarter in 2022. Fans were divided over the casting of Armstrong - with some delighted at the new slayer and others citing Buffy lore, and wondering why all the Slayers were activated in season seven of Buffy the Vampire Slayer if they aren't going to be used now. Ryan poses in an iconic Buffy Summers pose while Sarah Michelle Gellar is shown in the OG pose Some fans were excited about the casting news Some fans were not happy with the news and posted their reasons why The new Buffy is a reboot of the popular WB series set in the present day. All those reactivated Slayers would be 22 years older than they were in the final season of the series in 2003. The Slayer was always going to be a teenaged girl. Sarah Michelle has shut down rumors of a Buffy remake for years and earlier this week, she revealed why now is the right time for a reboot of the beloved show. The actress said on SiriusXM's The Morning Mash Up that she wants the project to bring comfort to fans living in particularly divided times. 'You know, I hope that it brings comfort. I think for me that was like, the big thing is that when you realize all these years later that the show still translates, 'cause sometimes you watch a show that you loved and you see it now and you're like, "OK," but it doesn't have the same meaning,' she began. 'Buffy is still hitting people who are watching it for the first time and they're seeing themselves and they're seeing their friends and they're finding their chosen family,' Gellar told co-host Ryan Sampson. 'I think more than ever right now, as we get more and more divided, we need that chosen family, so I hope to provide a new chosen family.' She appeared on the morning show with Alyson Hannigan and said the reason why now is the right time is that there is a story that picks up where the show left off 22 years ago. '[I did it for] Chloé Zhao and the Zuckermans — I call them the Zucks,' SMG explained. Zhao is signed on to direct the series' pilot based off a script written by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman. 'They had the story and I think that's why no one, everyone was just trying to redo it,' Gellar continued. '[The Zuckermans] had a continuation of where it goes now and, you know, as Alyson and I now have teenagers and you see the circle of what's needed, which is actually why we're here today.' Lilla and Nora Zuckerman used some Buffy terminology to praise Armstrong. 'We are so overjoyed to have found this generation's slayer in Ryan Kiera Armstrong, she absolutely blew us away — there is no question in our mind that she is the chosen one,' they said.

Law & Order: SVU Is Bringing Kelli Giddish Back as a Series Regular
Our long, 'Rollisi'-related nightmare is over: Kelli Giddish is returning to Law & Order: SVU full-time, TVLine has confirmed. Giddish will be back on the NBC procedural as a series regular in Season 27. Our sister site Deadline first reported the news. Chicago Med Very Nonchalantly Brings Back [Spoiler] After 5 Seasons - Plus, Hannah Gets Shocking News! Giddish left SVU as a series regular in December 2022 but has returned several times since then. In Season 26, which comes to a close tonight, so far she has shown up in five episodes; Episode 20 was the latest. At times, it felt as though the show struggled with how to reconcile Rollins' heightened importance in the show's history with the reality of Giddish's limited stints. Series star/executive producer Mariska Hargitay has gone on record saying that she fought Giddish's ouster in 2022 and that she wanted to bring her back in more than a recurring capacity. 'Kelli is my favorite actor to work with. Kelli is my heart,' Hargitay said in a May 2024 interview with our sister site Variety. 'It's a sore subject. I have a lot of say on the show [as the star and an executive producer since Season 15], but I didn't have enough there.' Season 26 found Giddish's character promoted to sergeant and taking on a new role in the New York Police Department's Intelligence Unit. Rollins' new job often required travel, which explained her absences from both the police department and her home life with husband, Assistant District Attorney Dominick 'Sonny' Carisi, and their children.
