Beat the Winter Chill This Year with the Kmart Oodie Alternative

Years after the Oodie invaded our living rooms and made working from home all the more bearable, the snug pullover top is still reigning supreme. Davie Fogarty's wearable blanket is one of the true success stories of Australian ingenuity, spawning a series of knock-offs, substitutes and stand-ins, however, none are as impressive as the Kmart Oodie alternative. Despite not being quite as fluffy or snug as the Original Oodie (it's still the top pick in our books), the Kmart variant had a magnetic allure, thanks to an incredible price of AUD$29, a far more digestible bite than the AUD$89 needed to nab a genuine Oodie. Sadly, just like an ice-cold wheat beer on a scorching summer day, the Kmart version was gone too soon, leaving many empty-handed and, presumably, a little chilly. But like the prodigal son, it's returned, boasting an upgrade. RELATED: These are the best hoodies for men right now when you need to go outside. Kmart Pull Over Gown | Image: Kmart Pull Over Gown – The Kmart Oodie Alternative The revamped Kmart Pull Over Gown, yours for just AUD$35, wraps you in a soft borg fleece fabric with an even cosier fleece lining. It's a bit shorter than its predecessor, hovering above the knee rather than touching mid-calf. However, with the camouflage patterns, you might have a bit of trouble spotting the difference. But let's get down to the nuts and bolts. This pullover still has that sought-after oversized fit, kangaroo pocket, and the all-important hood. One Kmart reviewer summed it up as 'Very easy to pop on & keep warm.' Now, how does it stack up against the Oodie? Although they might appear like two peas in a pod, the Kmart version is less thick and skews more towards an oversized hoodie than a 'wearable blanket'. It's also primarily women's sleepwear, unlike the Oodie, which is unisex. We're hoping Kmart will unveil more men's versions soon. That said, the Kmart Pull Over Gown compensates for its shortcomings with its price. Let's be real; our wallets could do with a breather. If your taste leans towards Harry Potter, The Mandalorian, or Frozen, you might be drawn to Oodie's extensive range of designs, with popular koala, avocado, and sloth prints now going for a cool AUD$89. Kmart does offer a Disney License Pull Over Gown, but with its all-pink design, it's more targeted at the ladies, much like the Hooded Teddy Nightie. Cotton On Snugget Adults Oversized Hoodie | Image: Cotton On Other Oodie Alternatives Luckily, there's no shortage of affordable Oodie alternatives out there in the wild. The flock is growing, folks. Big W's oversized hoodie is a player in the game, with a starting price that's easy on the pocket at just AUD$35. Not to be outdone, Cotton On offers a take with the Snugget Adults Oversized Hoodie at AUD$60, but keep an eye out because it drops as low as AUD$30 during sales. Lastly, don't forget to tip your hat to The Comfy, the OG of hooded blankets, which has been on the scene since 2017. For AUD$70, you can snag this veteran from Amazon Australia. So, a whole line-up of contenders are ready and waiting to keep you cosy without emptying your wallet. Regardless of the name on the tag – be it 'oversized hoodies' or 'hooded blankets', the aim is comfort. Whether you're planning a gaming night, a Netflix marathon, or just chilling out, there's an Oodie dupe that'll suit your style and budget. But remember to act fast. These comforting cocoons are notorious for flying off the shelves.

Mouse-terious prankers delight at Kwinana Marketplace

Co-workers at Kwinana Marketplace have taken workplace pranks to a new level. The sight of a small hatchback parked at the shopping centre wrapped completely in cling wrap delighted shoppers at the weekend. The harmless prank was complete with the addition of a set of Mickey Mouse's signature smile, nose, eyes and, of course, the iconic mouse ears. A photo of the car was posted on social media, where it received thousands of reactions. 'That's not a car … that's clearly Mickey's long-lost cousin 'Mick-Auto' out for a late-night grocery run! Whoever did this deserves a standing ovation and a permanent spot in the Kwinana Hall of Fame!' one commenter wrote. 'They're taking the Mickey!' another added. 'They'll be 'wrapped' to see their car,' a third joked. Commenters shared the car's new look was the creative work of night-fill colleagues from Big W. But the Sound Telegraph can reveal this prank war goes back to at least 2022. Photos shared in April of that year show the same car wrapped in cling wrap, but this time decorated with an Easter theme. The Easter version from 2022. ‘Truly saddened': Popular Dymocks to close after 18 years

The final chapter is approaching for Dymocks Joondalup, which has announced it will close its doors on June 30 after 18 years of operation. Owners Joanna and Jim Brown, who are moving into semi-retirement, made the announcement on Facebook last week, thanking customers for being part of the bookstore's story. 'We are truly saddened by this closure and want to thank all our loyal book lovers and customers for your incredible support over the past 18 years,' they said. Your local paper, whenever you want it. 'It has been a privilege to be part of the Joondalup community.' Hundreds of local customers flooded the comments section with messages of gratitude and well-wishes. 'Ohhh nooo, I've loved bringing in my granddaughters to buy their favourite books. Good luck everyone, thank you for your service, you shall be missed,' one comment said. Owners, Joanna and Jim Brown opened the store 18 years ago. Credit: Michael Wilson / The West Australian 'Very sad news — Dymocks Joondalup is such a stalwart supporter of local authors and readers, this wonderful place and its expert staff will be greatly missed,' another said. 'Thank you for the many years and lots of wonderful memories,' a third comment read. Despite the Joondalup store's closure, its existing partnerships with the City of Joondalup and Wanneroo libraries, as well as local schools where events such as author meet-and-greets are held, are set to continue. Speaking to PerthNow local newspapers, Ms Brown said they had hoped Dymocks or another owner would take over the Joondalup store, but it proved too difficult to facilitate and ultimately led to the decision to close. 'We love our books and our customers, so this has been a very hard decision for us,' she said. 'Since we made the announcement, we have had lots of people come in over the weekend to show their support. We have been really touched by the community's reaction.' Dymocks Joondalup partnership with the City of Joondalup and Wanneroo's library will continue through their Karrinyup store. Credit: Michael Wilson / The West Australian Ms Brown said part of the decision to close was due to sales stagnating as more people shifted to shopping online, and she urged the community to continue supporting local bookstores. 'It's really hard when people are buying online or from department stores like Big W; we just can't compete with them,' she said. 'Please support physical stores. If they're part of your community, make sure you back them.' Mr and Mrs Brown said they looked forward to welcoming familiar faces at their Karrinyup store. They will also be offering customers free delivery throughout the Joondalup and Karrinyup areas for Click & Collect or phone orders placed with the Karrinyup shop. They have seen thousands of iconic books fill the shelves of their bookstore over the past 18 years, but one truly stands out above them all. 'The seventh and final Harry Potter book quickly became a classic. All of our copies sold out before the release date due to pre-orders,' Mrs Brown said. 'On the day the last book came out, we ran out of stock, and the queues outside the store started as early as five o'clock in the morning. It was just amazing.' When it comes to non-fiction, an autobiography by an Aussie legend was among the store's best sellers. 'Non-fiction biographies, like Jimmy Barnes', were also big hits,' she said. 'One of our most memorable highlights was hosting incredible authors like Jimmy, where we had nearly 1000 people attend our event with him. 'Some of our other most popular authors include crime writers like Michael Connelly and Stephen King, known for his horror novels.' As part of a closing-down sale, Dymocks Joondalup is offering 25 per cent off all stock in-store until June 22.

Big W's website experienced a minutes-long glitch early yesterday morning after the retailer's annual toy sale started at 5am online. A spokesperson said a small number of products with incorrect prices were listed for a few minutes after the sale launched online. The glitch on the Big W website lasted a few minutes. One customer who purchased a 65-inch TV for $17 down from $600 shared the bargain on social media. "Click and collected it at 9am and I have it!" the customer said. Another customer purchased an Avoca Ride and Glide Roller Coaster for $19, down from $179, before the error was fixed. The customer confirmed they picked the item up at the lower price to the disbelief of fellow shoppers. "Lucky day, my kids love theirs," one person responded. Why thousands of shoppers are racing to Big W to load up their trolleys with hauls of items worth hundreds

It's that time of year again when hundreds of parents race to Big W to secure their children's Christmas gifts six months early. The retailer launched its epic Big Whopping Toy Sale on Tuesday, with mums and dads lining up outside their local stores before opening hours, hoping to grab the top rated items on every child's wish list. Eager shoppers were up at the crack of dawn to snap up this year's hottest toys from popular brands LEGO, Hot Wheels, Barbie, Pokémon, Bluey, Jurassic World and more. Pictures have emerged of shoppers with trolleys overflowing with toys worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars - as dozens of parents were spotted waiting outside long before the doors opened. Big W offers shoppers lay-by for just a $3 fee, allowing them to pay off their huge toy hauls over 21 weeks - meaning they pay in installments and pick up the items just in time for the gift-swapping season. It's an old-school payment method that helps many families stay on top of their budgets by letting them to pay off purchases over time - without incurring immediate debt or high interest fees. One happy mum-of-two was seen showing off her toy haul after snapping up a Thomas the Tank Engine train set and a collection of Care Bears for half price. 'I basically grabbed all of the good deals I could find... nearly anything that was half price,' she said. She's among the group of parents who have opted to lay-by their items. The mum said the best part about Big W's lay-by is how long shoppers have to pay it off - and that there's no large upfront fee to put their items on hold. 'You have to put down 10 to 20 per cent at a lot of other places just to lay-by so Big W is a good option,' she explained. And she's not alone. Another mum who was stocking up on her children's Christmas gifts said: 'Being able to pay things off (gradually) without having to pay everything all at once helps us save money.' While a third mum said it was a great time of year to grab her children's favourite toy brands - including Bluey, Gabby's Dollhouse and Sylvanian Families. One dad said he was doing his early Christmas shopping while another mum revealed she was stocking up on birthday and festive gifts. With Christmas just six months away, Australians parents are choosing to shop early and take advantage of the affordable prices. Big W's Chief Toy Buyer Christine Faulkner said the toy sale was the most anticipated event on the retailer's calendar. 'The BIG Whopping Toy Sale is the best time of year to buy toys,' she said. 'Our customers use the opportunity to save on all their gifting needs for the next six months, including the holiday season.' 'It's always good to see some of the classic brands, from LEGO to Barbie and Hot Wheels at the top of our trending toys list again this year, but we also have some newer favourites like Squishmallows and Jurassic World joining the top 10. 'If it's building, collecting or adventuring, there's a toy on the list to pique every kind of interest.' The standout deals include LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon for $929 (saving $221) while the Disney Princess Castle & Royal Pet set is reduced to $149, and the Friends Plant Café & Flower Shop is now $89. Hot Wheels fans haven't been left out, with the City Ultimate Garage Playset slashed to $99 and the 40 Car Gift Pack now just $59. Meanwhile, Barbie's iconic Dreamhouse Pool Party Doll House has been reduced to $179, the Dream Camper to $79, and the Dreamplane Playset to $89. Bluey fans will also be thrilled to see the Take Along Plush 33cm selling for $14 and the Bluey Cook with Chef Playset marked down to $150, with a bonus 2,000 Everyday Rewards points attached. Tech lovers will also find massive savings, with the Canon EOS 3000D DSLR Camera down to $549, the Apple Watch Series 10 GPS on sale for $499, the PlayStation 5 Digital Console available for $549, and the Nintendo Switch Console Neon selling for $399. To help customers manage their budgets, Big W offers a $3 extended lay-by for Christmas. Families can spread their payments over 21 weeks, with collection only required by November 7 2025 - making it a popular option for those wanting to get organised without breaking the bank. This year's event includes more than 300 new products and a host of online-only exclusive offers through BIG W Market. Shoppers can also access the sale via Pick Up, Home Delivery, and Direct to Boot services - ideal for those wanting to skip the queues and shop on their own terms. 'The variety, the savings and the flexibility of this year's sale means there's something for everyone,' Faulkner said. 'We expect brands like LEGO, Hot Wheels, Barbie and Pokémon to be some of the most popular products - so if you've got your eye on something, don't wait too long.' With major discounts already flying off the shelves and stock expected to move quickly, the sale is shaping up to be one of the retailer's biggest yet. The huge sale ends on July 9.
