Coffs Harbour best bets, inside mail for Friday, June 20, 2025

Racenet and The Daily Telegraph form analyst Shayne O'Cass provides his best bets and race-by-race analysis For Coffs Harbour on Friday. The Form: Complete NSW Racing thoroughbred form, including video replays and all you need to know about every horse, jockey and trainer. â– â– â– â– â– COFFS HARBOUR TIPS BEST BET Race 3 No. 3: PIEDI VELOCI At home, third-up, every added inch from the last run makes him more likeable. NEXT BEST Sent out some positive indicators that a debut win was doable. VALUE BET Race 5 No. 7: DESERT COUGAR Back to 1000m here, handles the wet, had excuses last time. QUADDIE Race 5: 1, 7 Race 6: 1, 2, 7, 10 Race 7: 1, 2 Race 8: 1, 3, 9 JOCKEY TO FOLLOW Country Championship winning jockey BEN LOOKER will take beating on the TAB Jockeys Challenge. SASKATOON BERRY (9) is a valuable mare for later on by virtue of the fact that her third dam is Regimental Gal. This daughter of Impending remains winless after 27 starts but has placed eight times and 'goes' on any ground. Will get there one day and this could be it. DARK STRATUM (2) is a city placed mare from her Richard Litt era. First run up this way had merit. CLEVER ILLUSION (1) is highly consistent. Bet: Saskatoon Berry to win, quinella 2, 9 â– â– â– â– â– RACE 2: Jesse Riley Hcp 1205m COOL MOON (1), like Cool Archie, is by Cool Aza Beel and was born at Newhaven Park. This Gold Coast-housed filly has finished runner-up at two of her three starts (one to Sunrays) and resumed with a solid fourth at Doomben. ISSY'S STAR (8) is a Kris Lees filly who was runner-up in the Red Crown on debut to a classy Sydney two-year-old, Raging Force. TOI TOI (12) and ARCHIE MAXIMUS (3) have claims in a quality line-up. Bet: Cool Moon to win, quinella 1, 8 â– â– â– â– â– PIEDI VELOCI (3) is a really likeable mid to long term prospect for local trainer Donna Grisedale. The son of Supido is yet to place in his three starts but all were good to varying degrees. Once he wins one, he could really get on a roll. OL' MATE COOP (5) has drawn wide here but it might not matter as much, depending on any early pattern. Whatever the case, he's the one with the best form in the race. HEZANUFF (2) wouldn't have to improve a lot on his 'norm' to win. Bet: Piedi Veloci to win â– â– â– â– â– DIVA ROUGE (3) will be the third of her father, Red Henno's, offspring to race. One has won (and like a good horse), the other was placed. Jake Hull trains those two and he's got this one too. Trialled really well and gets Ben Looker from a good alley. DIZZY DEE (4) has run more good races than bad. She resumes here off two trials, winning the June 9 one with Jett Newman. I'M GUESSING (6) won a trial that same day herself. In good hands. Bet: Diva Rouge to win â– â– â– â– â– DESERT COUGAR (7) is a stablemate and half-sister to Lisztomania. This daughter of Capitalist was building up to that first win at Tamworth on May 20 and was most emphatic. Had plenty of reasonable excuses for the ninth of 12 at Grafton after that. Long story short, back to 1006m, is a big plus. Expect better this time. DIAMONDSAREMIO (1) has run maybe one 'bad' race in her eight starts this far. She deserves a lot of praise for her third at Moree behind Starry Jack. Bet: Desert Cougar to win â– â– â– â– â– OSTRACISED (7) has been around. He started off with Team Hawkes in Victoria then went to Kody Nestor, Cody Morgan, Bjorn Baker and now Donna Grisedale. There was a time when he was being looked upon as a Country Championships and even Kosciuszko contender. Fast forward to the present and he's had his hoof on the till for a little while now. Ostracised was runner-up to his stablemate Mallee Boy Express last start and you'd have to say he won on his merits. Bet: Ostracised to win, Daily Double 1st leg 7, 2nd leg 9 â– â– â– â– â– GOLDEN HONOUR (2) was a $220,000 Easter Yearling in 2021. Skip ahead to September 2023 and Glen Milligan bought the horse online for $13,000. He's been a great investment for Milligan who has won four races (and five placings) since then. Won 15 days ago with 60.5kg on a Heavy 9. RONNY ROCK ART (1) failed in town last start but go back two before that and he was only a length and three-quarters off Piggyback at Warwick Farm. Bet: Golden Honour to win, box trifecta 1, 2, 4, 16 â– â– â– â– â– EXOREALM (9) has raced seven times on Good and Soft tracks for no wins, no placings. However, the son of Exosphere has raced on Heavy twice for easy Taree Maiden win and a Taree Maiden third. This will be his second run for Sally Taylor who must have been thrilled with the first one; that fourth back on Jan 31. Trialled well on June 9. TELEGRAPH (1) won a very strong Benchmark 66 on June 5 at Taree. On top of that, the Tony Ball-trained gelding won his maiden at this same track and trip.

Port Macquarie preview, best bets, inside mail for Sunday, June 15, 2025

Colt Prosser stands his best chance of winning a Wauchope Cup and could add the co-feature sprint when he heads to Port Macquarie for the annual festival that celebrates his own home town. Prosser is more or less Lord of the Manor at Wauchope; after all, he is one of only two trainers in residence. The other is his father, Grant. Prosser saddles-up the sturdy and reliable customer Cenotes who has been dealt a wide draw in this weekend's Wauchope Cup (1512m) as was the case when he resumed in the Beef Week Cup at Casino on May 30. 'I was happy with him (at Casino),' Prosser said. Cenotes makes it three wins in a row 3ï¸⃣ He wins easily at Kempsey and gives Ben Looker a double! @ColtProsser â€' SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) September 19, 2024 The Form: Complete NSW Racing thoroughbred form, including video replays and all you need to know about every horse, jockey and trainer. Find a winner here! 'First-up, he just got stuck wide and made a really long run and just peaked out with a hundred to go. 'Ben (Looker) never knocked him around on that real Heavy track because we've got bigger fish to fry in the near future. 'The doesn't make it ideal because he is a horse that can jump and put himself there and that was the plan. Second-up, I think he can run a nice race. I think he still needs to get over a mile to be at his best. 'It's a bit of a shame to draw like he has in my home Cup. This time it is just going to be up to Ben to see how it unfolds.' Prosser's Wauchope Sprint (1008m) pair, Dis Is Heaven and Bjorn Ironside, clash for a second time in quick succession after they both went within inches of winning the Casino Flying which was as close to a triple dead-heat as they come. 'They were probably a little bit the victims of circumstance,' Prosser explained. 'The winner got a little bit better run in transit and didn't have to go wide around the field but my boys lost no admirers, they were great, and I'm looking forward to seeing them in the Wauchope Sprint. Dis Is Heaven gets up in a photo from Canny Prospect. ðŸ'¸ â€' SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) March 17, 2023 'There's not much between them. I thought Dis Is Heaven would have lengths on Bjorn Ironside in the Heavy but Bjorn was absolutely fantastic there at Casino to run that sort of race on going that he is not real comfortable on.' There may not be a better looking or more striking horse in action at Port Macquarie than Prosser's first starter, Impending Fortune, who will have his share of admirers in the Chris Hudson Electrical Country Boosted Maiden Plate (1108m). Originally sold for $130,000 Magic Millions Yearling, the grandson of Lonhro was bought the second time around for a mere $6,500 at the Inglis October Online Sale in 2024. Impending Fortune is among only one per cent of the almost 13,000 foals born in 2020 officially registered as 'black' in colour. 'He's a very nice horse,' Prosser said. 'He could possibly do a bit wrong and be a bit green first start just with the one trial and he did miss a lot of education work on the way through just with all that rain and floods we've had. 'But he is a lovely big horse. he has been in work a while and we finally got him to the trials and Luke (Rolls) was really happy with him.' SHAYNE O'CASS' TOP SELECTIONS BEST BET Runner-up in seven of her 12 starts. Costly, but this could be the day. NEXT BEST Peter Graham-trained galloper and he'll ride him too. Getting ever so close. VALUE BET Race 4 No. 4: ROYAL TEENS Back to where she last won. Been running in some hard races of late. QUADDIE Race 6: 1, 2 Race 7: 1, 4, 8, 12 Race 8: 3, 10 Race 9: 5, 6, 11, 12 JOCKEY TO FOLLOW Country Championships winning jockey BEN LOOKER has some choice rides. CRAZY MIKKI (8) has been costly to follow. In fact, she's been rolled twice at $1.60 and once at even money. That said, she has finished runner-up seven times in her 12 start career. On top of that, she has finished second in her only two runs here. Now or never, ever again. ANGELS CLOUD (6) has placed at six of her 13 starts. Record here at home is very good. Has to go in. IMPENDING FORTUNE (2) trialled rather well. STAR PREDICTION (1) has raced six times, finishing second on three occasions and a third once. That third was at Canterbury behind Waller duo Mia Ballerina and Hidden Achievement. On-pace type who will find this 'easier' than most of her previous missions. PICCADERO (2) has been gelded and changed stables since he last ran. He too has placed at Canterbury. Go well. NAMARA (3) has respectable provincial form. NOT MY PROBLEM (1) is a Kris Lees-trained filly placed three of five, placed at both visits here, both times by pretty narrow margins and in rather strong Maidens too. ULTIMATE REIGN (11) remains winless after 33 starts and has just five placings on her resume but she does run well here at home. Not sure she can win but she could certainly get into the medals without surprising. ROYAL TEENS (4) beat Starry Jack here over this same trip (tick). Her next three runs were in the Northern Wild card won by Know Thyself followed by two Highways, the Gosford one was a ripper run. VIA VEGAS (3) is '321' in three starts for Jonathan Smith. Take note that the '2' and the '1' were both here at home with Ben Looker on. CALAMITY FOX (2) Is very consistent in this grade of race. Trialled well. ROCK ARE STEINER (10) is trained by dual licence holder Peter Graham which means that he'll be legging himself aboard this son of Casino Prince for the 16th time as it happens. His record on the gelding is one win and three placings. Has won here and is working his way towards another. WHAT A RUSH (11) has Shaggy form and a win here to boot. May pay to overlook the Casino run. AGED CARE (1) is from a family that Kris and Max Lees have had some member of for probably the best part of 40 years. This son of Brutal has a tidy little resume of six starts for a win, two seconds and a third. His best run was his honourable fourth at Scone in the rich Inglis 2YO Challenge. The lone win so far of PUNCH ONE OUT (2) was at this same track and distance with Ben Looker on. Will go well, he nearly always does. SUPREME COMMAND (4) has run first or second at six of 16 starts. Two are wins, four are seconds including recently at Muswellbrook where he split Red Rags To Bull and Shutter who won easily this week at Scone. ALL TOO ROSEY (8) has finished first or seconds at nine of her 33 starts, two are wins, thus seven are seconds. One of them was on June 5 at Taree in between Golden Honour and Rock Are Steiner. INFERENCIA (3) is known for her Highway win on the Golden Slipper undercard. The Rebecca Dunn-trained mare resumed in the 1280m Aberdeen Cup at Muswellbrook on June 1 and finished a half-length third with some handy horses behind her. As for Port Macquarie, she broke her maiden there. A POUND OF SALT (10) was a well-deserved Highway winner himself last start. CENOTES (5) is well up to this. DIS IS HEAVEN (5) was beaten a lip in the Flying at Casino on May 30, immediately after a third at Warwick Farm which was itself preceded by an 82 win at Tuncurry (beating Debussy). Clearly reliable; his numbers here make compelling reading. is the new kid on the block. Already won two of five, he ran a huge race in a 66 at Taree splitting weekend rivals Telegraph and Buck Pharoah. goes in, so too ZOOM OUTCOME (11).

Casino, Goulburn previews: Colt Prosser eyeing a feature double

Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. Wauchope trainer Colt Prosser has spent the best part of last week cleaning up after the devastating floods on the Mid-North Coast. Now, he will be hoping for a clean sweep of Casino's two big annual features. Wauchope is an hour's drive from Taree and while that essentially makes the two towns neighbours, Taree was more or less ground zero for the big weather event. 'It was not too bad, just a lot of flooded stables,' Prosser said. 'Safety-wise we were all good. The town coped a lot and went under and everyone was isolated. 'It was a big weekend on the tools and the wheelbarrow and shovels but we'll be okay, a lot of people did it a lot worse than us.' Prosser's Beef Week Cup participant, Cenotes, will tackle the $45,000 1400m feature first-up having last been seen on October 11 when down the order in the Port Macquarie Cup. This will be only his second 'Cup' but certainly not the last, according to Prosser. 'Cenotes is going to be in for a nice campaign,' the trainer said. 'He is going to be in all the Country Cups around the corner. 'He is first-up and he's just been ineffective at anything under a mile so if he can run good race, I'll be happy. 'I expect him just to improve with a run under his belt.' Cenotes will be ridden by Country Championship Final winning jockey Ben Looker who boasts a favourable record on the son of Rebel Dane of three wins and a second from six rides. Looker was also Prosser's choice for Bjorn Ironside who will square off with stablemate, Dis Is Heaven, in the Casino Flying over 1000m. Bjorn Ironside's current personal best was his close and closing third in this season's MNC Championship Qualifier over 1200m but his one and only 1000m test was hard to forget, even for Prosser. 'He's only had one go at 1000m and he smashed them,' the trainer said. 'This is up in grade and he hasn't had a run since he went to Brisbane but I brought him home and he's freshened-up good.' Dis is Heaven, meanwhile, will be taking a step back in class when he steps out in the Casino co-feature. That's because his last run was at the midweeks where he finished third in the 1000m Benchmark 72, $60,000 affair. 'He's going great and he doesn't mind a soft track,' said Prosser. 'I just would have liked to draw a little bit better at Casino with him but he can be a run-on horse so if they happened to be put a bit on pressure on, he can relax and finish off. 'I was really disappointed I couldn't go back to Sydney with last week when we were flooded in, I couldn't get there. 'He hasn't had too many dramas. He's nice and fit and he's going well.' ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ Former jockey, now Hawkesbury-based trainer Blake Ryan is hoping the well-bred two-year-old Nothing But Net can pull of a slam dunk on debut at Goulburn Nothing But Net was one of 138 foals to emerge from the first crop of ATC Sires' Produce and Champagne Stakes winner, King's Legacy. His grandam is Georgette Silk whose single win came on debut in the 2020 ATC Widden Stakes. 'He has always shown me a little bit,' Ryan said. 'He was in our Ready 2 Run draft and he breezed up the quickest of the lot but was passed in. 'He went online and when the client sold him, Matthew (Sandblom) bought him and gave him back to me to train. 'He seems to be a horse that a 1000m isn't going to be his go. He is bred to be a 1400m horse so he is going to improve.' Nothing But Net won't be alone on the trip to Goulburn. He'll be accompanied by another blue blood, namely Asuriito, who lines-up in the Pat Murphy Racing Class 2 Handicap (1000m). A son of Brazen Beau, Asuriito, went to the Sapphire Coast on May 4 armed with an impressive record of two wins and a third from five starts. And while costly in defeat for his many supporters, he left Bega with excuses. 'That track was very, very heavy and gluey,' Ryan said. 'On paper its says it was a Soft 7 but the grass was very long and it was very boggy. That, coupled with the weight, made it hard for him. 'He is an honest little campaigner. He had a tough run at Canberra before that but he keeps bouncing out of it, I'll give him that much. 'I would have liked to have a little bit better but only that dog-leg corner there at Goulburn from the 1000m, it shouldn't be too much of a hassle for him.' Granted, Ryan's immediate focus is on Goulburn but once he's done there, he will be in countdown mode to Saturday's Midway Handicap at Rosehill where he is represented by the always reliable Lady Extreme. 'I'm really happy with her. 'I think she is going as well as she has ever gone,' Ryan said. 'And a heavy track wouldn't bother me. She's a duck.'

Grafton preview: Looker keen to add to impressive tally

Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. Country Championship Final winning jockey Ben Looker aims to add the $500,000 The Coast to his resume but not before boosting his extraordinary Grafton tally. The one-time apprentice to local legend and Kosciuszko winning trainer John Shelton, Looker brought up his 1,300th winner when Point Out won at Quirindi 11 days ago. Not surprisingly, Grafton is Looker's most successful track with a current total of 259 wins. The most recent of those came on April 13 when Looker steered the lightly-raced and promising Olivershare to his first win at career start number two. 'He's still learning what it is all about but he was really good to win a Maiden from an awkward gate without a lot of luck in the middle stages,' Looker said. 'When he got to the second horse, he got passed it, then just floated a little bit. The Form: Complete NSW Racing thoroughbred form, including video replays and all you need to know about every horse, jockey and trainer. Find a winner here! 'Going from a Maiden to a 58 is pretty hard to do nowadays with the Benchmark system. 'He's racing horses that have won more than one or two races but he has got a lot of upside and from the one alley he is going to be able to put himself there and he'll look the winner at some stage. 'He's a nice enough horse that I've got a lot of time for.' Looker is naturally eager to reacquaint himself with the well-bred Veandechance in the Brett Bellamy Congratulations On 1000 Benchmark 82 Handicap (1435m). The last time he rode the Colt Prosser-trained relative of Melbourne Cup winner Jezabeel was at her most recent start, winning a slogging mile affair at Taree on March 25. 'She hasn't raced for a bit over six weeks just with all the wet weather there really hasn't been any races for her,' Looker explained. 'Whatever she does over the 1400m, I feel that she is going to improve getting back up to a mile and 2000m down the track. 'But Grafton is rain-affected at the moment and she is very dynamic on a wet track.' Looker's first chance to win on the day comes in Edwards Irrigation Consulting Maiden (1030m) where he pilots the Showtime two-year-old Ol' Mate Coop. 'He went around a while ago at Coffs Harbour,' Looker said. 'Obviously Shaggy won the race and won quite well but the second horse has come out and won a race since and my horse ran third. 'Tony Newing's horses race well at their home track. 'He's a nice horse with a lot of upside.' While Looker's immediate focus centres on Grafton, all roads lead to Gosford on Saturday where the trusty hoop will hop aboard the Dynamic Syndications mare Rapt in a shared quest for the $500,000 The Coast. 'I was meant to ride Overriding in (The Coast) last year but unfortunately Nathan (Doyle) had to scratch,' Looker said. 'Rapt is not a short-price fancy but you can't really fault her form. 'She has raced well at Gosford in the past, she's three from three at the distance, and I thought her run was pretty good in the Provincial Championship Final. 'In a race where not a lot made ground from back in the field, I thought she did a good job to make up the ground she did. 'If she gets the luck, I think she'll beat more home than beat her home.' ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ Donna Grisedale has provided an update on her husband/jockey Jon, weeks after a dangerous incident at a set of post-race barrier trials at Grafton. Grisedale, who has ridden close to 1,350 winners, was dislodged from his mount after it reared and fell on top of him while parading behind the barriers prior to the first of two Heats at Grafton on April 13. 'Jon's good,' Donna Grisedale said. 'It's probably halfway through with his broken leg but he is mending well and now it is a just a matter of time, hopefully another three weeks.' Jon Grisedale will be watching on from home as his wife saddles-up two of the string at Grafton, namely the stable recruit Ostracised together with the speedy Super One son, Super Jaie. Ostracised was bought, and sold, for a fourth time in his career, when knocked down for $10,000 at the Inglis February Online Sale in 2024. The one-time Team Hawkes resident has been a model of consistency since his change of address, posting four thirds in his nine starts for Grisedale. 'We haven't had a jumpout or a trial so he is literally going straight into it pretty much raw but he still should run well, he loves the wet,' the trainer said. 'He's a good money-spinner. His first-up run is usually his worst and after that, he is very consistent. 'We've been trying to find a wet track but they just seem to be getting too wet and washed so hopefully Friday is his day.' Super Jaie, meanwhile, seems blessed with a favourable alley (two) in the last of the ten races on the marathon card. 'Ideally a Good 4 would be what he is looking for opposed to a Heavy track but we are going four and five weeks between runs with every horse so I am just losing fitness tremendously with too many of them,' said Grisedale. Grisedale's gelding's three wins career have come at distance ranging from 1106m to 1250m. Super Jaie's broodmare sires read like a who's who of Australia's most recognisable stallions including Snitzel, Century, Vain, Todman and Heroic. On top of all that, Super Jaie's ninth dam is the 1945 Melbourne Cup winner, Rainbird.
