Was Nintendo the problem all along? Game Freak's Beast of Reincarnation sparks shock

Published June 10th, 2025 - 10:52 GMT ALBAWABA - Japanese developer Game Freak recently took the internet by storm during the 2025 Xbox Games Showcase after revealing its upcoming souls-like, Beast of Reincarnation. The stunning graphics left people in shock after they compared the developer's previous games to Nintendo's Pokémon franchise. Game Freak has always been subjected to criticism for its lackluster graphics and poor optimization in Pokémon games such as Sword and Shield, Legends: Arceus, Scarlet and Violet, and many more. Many fans blamed the developer, further stating that the studio lacks "motivation." However, others blamed the Nintendo Switch hardware, deeming it "outdated" and "weak" for its time, which caused limitations in graphics and performance. — PlayStation (@PlayStation) June 9, 2025 While that might've been the case, other Nintendo titles like Kirby: The Forgotten Lands, Mario Kart 8, Luigi's Mansion 3, and many more run steadily with stunning graphics. Additionally, Game Freak recently showcased the visible difference in textures between the Switch and Switch 2 versions of its upcoming game, Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Beast of Reincarnation (Game Freak) Game Freak describes Beast of Reincarnation as "an expansive one-person, one-dog action RPG built around demanding, technical combat." It follows the story of Emma and her loyal canine companion, Koo, who venture into post-apocalyptic Japan as humanity's last hope. The game is set to launch in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Xbox Game Pass and Steam. According to its Steam store page, Beast of Reincarnation draws elements from adventure, action, and souls-like games © 2000 - 2025 Al Bawaba (

Game Freak Breaks Free From ‘Pokémon' With ‘Beast Of Reincarnation'

'Beast of Reincarnation' is a new and upcoming game developed by Game Freak. For many, Game Freak is synonymous with Pokémon, but their upcoming game Beast of Reincarnation looks to shatter that preconception. Set in the far-off future, Beast of Reincarnation looks similar to something like NieR: Automata by way of Sekiro. In short, an ostentatious action game with a fascinating setting and stunning visuals. While the initial trailer (shown below) only lists the fact that the game will be coming to Xbox, it will also be released on the PlayStation 5 and PC, via Steam. The publisher behind this is also curious, called Fictions, their only other game is LEGO Party!, which is out later this year. The reason this new publisher seems noteworthy is that Beast of Reincarnation is clearly not a small game in a budgetary sense. For one, it looks very impressive graphically, and for another, there seems to be some genuine production value behind it. This is interesting because Game Freak is often criticized for its somewhat low-budget approach to Pokémon. Whereas this new game shows that maybe Game Freak isn't the one at fault there. Beast of Reincarnation will be released in 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Follow me on X, Facebook and YouTube. ‘Pokémon' Studio's Next Game Is ‘Beast of Reincarnation', An Action RPG Set For 2026

Game Freak, the studio behind the Pokémon franchise, has unveiled its newest game, Beast of Reincarnation, a third-person fantasy action RPG due for launch in 2026. Revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, the game is set in a post-apocalyptic Japan ruined by corruption, and follows protagonist Emma, 'an outcast cursed as a Blighted One', and her canine companion Koo as they 'journey across an ominous, ever-changing world where dangerous forests can erupt in the wasteland', with the game's trailer featuring slick third-person exploration and combat using nature-based abilities like summoning giant vines for traversal, and combat against both towering beasts and mechanical monstrosities alike. Advertisement ▼ According to the game's description, the core gameplay experience will be built around 'demanding, technical combat', which alludes to it featuring systems and difficulty akin to the souls-like genre, where studying an opponent's attack patterns and reacting accordingly is crucial, as opposed to hacking and slashing, with the trailer featuring what seems to be a timing-based parry system with Emma able to deflect yellow-tinted attacks. Previously under the working title Project Bloom, Beast of Reincarnation's gameplay evokes the same feel as Koei Tecmo's 2023 monster-hunting game Wild Hearts, featuring intense boss encounters with massive beasts plagued by some form of fungal corruption, although it remains to be seen if boss fights will be the focus of the title, or if it will feature a more traditional RPG format. Beast of Reincarnation will launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC sometime in 2026.
