UniCredit CEO, Mediobanca Counsel Quizzed in Paschi Sale Probe
By and Antonio Vanuzzo Save UniCredit SpA Chief Executive Officer Andrea Orcel has been quizzed by Milan prosecutors as part of a probe into Italy 's sale of a stake of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena SpA, according to people familiar with the matter. Orcel as well as Mediobanca SpA General Counsel Stefano Vincenzi were asked to give information to prosecutors in recent months because of their knowledge of the transaction and neither are under investigation or accused of any wrongdoing, added the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Banca Akros Says Monte Paschi Stake Sale Was in Full Compliance

Akros was responding to Italian media reports earlier Friday, including by Corriere della Sera, that prosecutors in Milan were looking into the finance ministry's sale of a 15% stake to a group of investors through an accelerated bookbuilding procedure.

The Monte Paschi-Mediobanca deal 'could merge a specific characteristic of our economy — that is, small and medium enterprises — which Monte Paschi has represented very well in recent years through a very active management, along with an investment bank,' Marco Osnato, the head of the economic department in Meloni's Brothers of Italy party, said in an interview.
