Singareni sets national benchmark in implementation of Accident Insurance scheme

Hyderabad, June 7 (UNI) As part of employee welfare initiatives and in accordance with the directions of the Telangana government, state-owned Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has implemented a Rs one crore accident insurance scheme, which has now become a model for the entire country, said company Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) N Balram. Balram made these remarks through video conference while presenting a Rs one crore accident insurance cheque to Ms Haridevi Vishwakarma, wife of Mool Chand Vishwakarma, an EP Operator from Manuguru, who recently passed away in an accident, by Director (Operations) L V Suryanarayana, Director (Projects, Planning & Personnel) K Venkateshwarlu, and SBI DGM Satyanarayana at an event held at the Kothagudem Head Office on Friday. The CMD noted that the late Mool Chand had a corporate salary account with State Bank of India, making him eligible for the Rs one crore insurance benefits. He explained that Singareni is the first government organization in the country to partner with banks and implement an accident insurance scheme with coverage of up to Rs 1.25 crore—a move that provides strong financial support to families of employees who lose their lives in accidents. He further mentioned that this accident insurance scheme being implemented in Singareni has now been adopted by states such as Assam, Uttar Pradesh and even Coal India Limited. The revolutionary initiative in the insurance sector, he added, was made possible due to the proactive efforts of the state government and the forward-thinking leadership of Singareni. Unexpected accidents can financially devastate a family and to address this, Singareni has arranged accident insurance coverage for all employees holding salary accounts in collaboration with banks. Additionally, he mentioned that similar accident insurance coverage of up to Rs 40 lakhs is also being provided to contract workers. UNI KNR SS

10-year-old girl, two others drown in Ganga

Kanpur: Three people, including a 10-year-old girl, lost their lives by drowning in the Ganga in the Bilhaur police station area of Kanpur on Thursday. The police, assisted by divers, retrieved the bodies after receiving information. The deceased were identified as Balram Nishad (22), son of Chanda Nishad from Shivli police station, Kanpur Dehat, his brother-in-law Sandeep Nishad (20), son of Ramvilas from Bidhnu police station, Kanpur Nagar, and his niece Priyanka (10), daughter of Sarvesh Nishad from Kallupurwa Sen Paschim Para, Kanpur Nagar. According to reports, Balram was visiting his sister's residence in Kallu Ka Purwa Sen Paschim Para, Bilhaur, on Wednesday with his wife and brother-in-law Sandeep. They were there to attend Priyanka's 'mundan' ceremony. On Thursday, while Balram's brother-in-law Sarvesh was at the market purchasing medicine for his wife, the family members went to take a bath in the Ganga during Jyestha Dussehra. The situation turned fatal when Priyanka went into deep waters and started drowning. Balram attempted to rescue her but found himself in difficulty. Sandeep, upon seeing both in distress, jumped in to help but also drowned. Nearby bathers attempted to rescue them and alerted the police. The three were pulled out and rushed to the nearby CHC, but doctors pronounced them dead. ACP Bilhaur, Amarnath Yadav confirmed the drowning deaths at Kallu Purwa Akbarpur Sendh Ghat. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and legal procedures are in progress. The police said that Balram had got married in Feb. The incident has raised concerns about safety measures at the ghats, particularly during religious festivals when large crowds gather for ritual bathing. Local authorities have announced plans to increase safety arrangements, including the deployment of additional lifeguards and installation of warning signs about deep water zones. The police have initiated a detailed investigation into the incident. They are recording statements from witnesses and family members present at the scene. The local administration has said it will provide all possible assistance to the bereaved families.

Kanpur: The crime branch arrested a gang leader and his accomplice near the Jungle Water Park in Bithoor for trafficking smack and charas from Barabanki, and arms from Munger, Bihar, on Tuesday. The gang leader, Balram Rajput, had previously sustained leg injuries in police encounters at Rail Bazar and Chakeri. He continued his illegal activities after being released on bail. Masquerading as a journalist, he was caught possessing 27.50 grams of smack, 920 grams of charas, two Munger-made pistols, and a news portal identification card. Both suspects were arrested on Tuesday. DCP Crime SM Qasim Abidi said that the suspects, Balram Rajput and Rajat Verma alias Howrah, hail from Lal Bangla Kazi Kheda. Balram, the operation's kingpin, had been trafficking narcotics from various regions for a decade, with recent supplies originating from Tikra village in Barabanki. After a six-week search by the crime branch and narcotics team, he was located near Chiran village in Bithoor. During interrogation, Balram disclosed his business model--purchasing hashish at Rs 1.30 lakh per kilogram and retailing it for two to two and a half lakh rupees. He acquired smack at Rs 1.10 lakh for 50 grams, selling it for Rs two lakh. Additionally, he revealed meeting Anshu, a Buxar resident, while in prison. This connection led to Balram's involvement in arms trafficking, making over ten visits to Buxar and procuring more than 20 pistols from Munger. He purchased each pistol for Rs 35,000 and sold them locally for Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000.

This comes after another shooting claimed the life of a bus driver in Verulam, two weeks after another fatal shooting. Next Stay Close ✕ Balram said first responders learned that two suspects boarded the bus on the corner of Orchid and Redcliffe drives. The suspects produced firearms and opened fire indiscriminately before fleeing on foot. They did not steal any valuables. 'The driver and conductor were expedited to the hospital before the arrival of reaction officers and police. The driver was pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival at the medical facility. The extent of his colleague's injuries remains unknown. 'The 26-year-old pregnant female was seated on the side of the road. She was shot through her right thigh. She was stabilised on scene before being transported to the hospital in a stable condition,' Balram said. A pregnant woman was among three people shot during an incident on a bus in Verulam on Tuesday evening. Image: Reaction Unit South Africa KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed that the driver succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. 'Police in Verulam have opened a case of murder and two counts of attempted murder following an incident in which a bus driver and two passengers were allegedly shot by unknown suspects inside a bus on Orchid Drive at Redcliff in Verulam on Tuesday evening,' Netshiunda said. He said the murder motive was unknown. Verulam CPF chairperson Rachel Wilkin said this category of crime falls under police dependent because it is not a social crime. 'There are other motives which require detective work to get to the bottom of this; these now depend on police action. Only when they do their detective work and they put it before the court, will anyone know what is conclusive because even in front of a court, it has to be proved,' Wilkin said. Wilkin said safe spaces are no longer safe. Criminals invade schools, clinics, hospitals, churches, and even cemeteries. 'We have a breed of criminals now that have zero moral conscience. There's zero ethics or humanity governing them or their actions,' Wilkin said. She asked how one goes to bed at night after shooting a pregnant woman. 'We need to question what it is that we are doing as a society that is breeding this kind of inhumanity, this lack of compassion, this entitlement,' Wilkin said. Two weeks ago, a bus driver died in hospital after being shot in the arm and abdomen during a violent attack on a bus in Verulam. Image: Reaction Unit South Africa On May 12, Balram reported that a bus driver shot during a robbery on Buffelsdraai Road in Buffelsdraai died in the hospital. It is alleged that four suspects posed as passengers before producing firearms and shooting the driver while the bus was in motion. The bus left the roadway before stopping. Balram said the driver was shot in the arm and abdomen. The suspects stole cash and robbed passengers before fleeing on foot.
