Bengaluru doctor offloaded for ‘threatening to crash' Air India flight
The Bengaluru police have booked a city-based doctor for allegedly misbehaving with cabin crew on board an Air India flight bound for Surat, Gujarat, and threatening to crash the plane. According to the police, Dr Vyas Hiral Mohanbhai, 36, hailing from Yelahanka, was offloaded from the flight after the incident that took place around 2.45 pm on Tuesday. After boarding the plane, Mohanbhai dropped her bag in the front row and demanded crew members carry it to her seat, 20 F, when questioned about the bag's placement. The situation escalated when she allegedly shouted threats about 'crashing the plane', prompting the cabin crew to alert the pilot. Despite the pilot's intervention, Dr Mohanbhai refused to calm down, leading to her removal from the aircraft before its departure, according to the police. The Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) police have booked Dr Mohanbhai under sections 351 (4) (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication) and 353 (1)(b) (statements of public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita as well as section 3(1)(a) (act of violence against a person on board an aircraft in flight which is likely to endanger the safety of such aircraft) of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against Safety of Civil Aviation Act. In another incident that took place on Tuesday, Sadaad Mohammad Baba, 22, from Srinagar, allegedly attempted to forcibly enter departure gate 8 at Bengaluru airport's Terminal 1. When CISF personnel tried to prevent his unauthorised entry, Baba allegedly shoved the security staff. The police have booked Baba under BNS sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 221 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), and 329 (2) (criminal trespass).

Bengaluru airport, Museum of Art & Photography team up to transform Terminal 2 into cultural hub
Bengaluru: Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has partnered with the Museum of Art & Photography (MAP) to transform Terminal 2 (T2) into a dynamic cultural destination. The collaboration aims to offer passengers an immersive experience of South Asian art and heritage, seamlessly integrated into their travel journey. T2, already known for its strong artistic identity with over 210 curated artworks by more than 60 artists, now expands its cultural footprint through a series of interactive digital installations. At the domestic terminal, travellers can access a digital art archive through MAP's Gallery on Demand. It features works by celebrated artists such as Jamini Roy, Jangarh Singh Shyam, Jyoti Bhatt, Suresh Punjabi, and LN Tallur. The platform also includes compelling narratives built around Bollywood and short films that provide intimate glimpses into the lives of the featured artists. Interactive puzzles based on iconic artworks like Universe by SH Raza and The Lotus Sellers by NS Bendre make art appreciation playful and engaging, while a digital lamp lighting experience offers travellers a meaningful pause. The Cumulus system allows passengers to explore MAP's digitised collection in detail, enabling search, zoom, and personal curation. At the international terminal, the partnership is marked by an exhibition titled 'Bhuri Bai: My Life as an Artist', spotlighting the life and works of Padma Shri Bhuri Bai. Commissioned by MAP, the exhibition features autobiographical pieces, early works from the 1980s, and large-scale recent creations, providing a compelling narrative of her journey as a contemporary artist. The airline signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), under which BIAL will allocate approximately 31 acres for the facility will be built with an investment of over Rs 1,100 crore, inclusive of infrastructure, plant and machinery, the Karnataka government said in a statement. With this project BIAL will support a projected 1,300 aircrafts by FY31 and potentially scale it to 2,100 aircrafts by FY 37-38, it added. The new MRO facility at KIA will be an addition to its current infrastructure already serving Airbus, Boeing and defence aircrafts."Indigo's second MRO facility is expected to generate over 750 direct high-skill jobs in engineering, logistics, warehousing, and support services," Karnataka's Commissioner for Industrial Development Gunjan Krishna said the new facility will be equipped to handle both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft, boosting the airline's operational presence in southern planned facility will consist of four hangars to accommodate four wide-body aircraft or eight narrow-body aircraft, and one paint hangar to accommodate one wide-body aircraft.'With Indigo and Air India both now operating MRO facilities in Karnataka, alongside TASL's upcoming MRO plant and HAL 's existing MRO operations in the state, Karnataka truly earns its title as the MRO Capital of Asia ,' the Industries department said in a per government sources the Kalaburagi airport was also offered to IndiGo but the airline chose Bengaluru as its base.'The presence of IndiGo's MRO will also accelerate the entry of OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers, resulting in a multiplier effect in terms of jobs, industrial growth, and vendor development,' Commissioner Krishna added. IndiGo signs pact with BIAL to develop new MRO facility at Bengaluru
Domestic carrier IndiGo on Friday said it has inked an initial pact with Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) to set up a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility at the Bangalore International Airport. Under the agreement, BIAL will allocate about 31 acres to IndiGo for development of MRO infrastructure to support the airline's expanding fleet, it said in a statement. The facility will be equipped to handle both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft, further strengthening IndiGo's maintenance capabilities and operational presence at the Bengaluru Airport. "Developing broad IndiGo MRO capabilities marks a significant and very strategic step for IndiGo. Partnering with BIAL underlines our shared commitment to drive long-term growth of the aviation ecosystem in Bengaluru", IndiGo Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers said. Together with BIAL, IndiGo is further shaping the future of Indian aviation by focusing on innovation, growth and global connectivity that will define India's leadership in the skies, he added.
