SL vs BAN: Najmul Hossain Shanto becomes first Bangladesh captain to score centuries in both innings of a Test
Najmul Hossain Shanto on Saturday notched up a unique record when he became the first Bangladesh captain to score hundreds in both innings of a Test match. Shanto pulled off the feat with 148 in the 1st innings and 125 in the second innings in the 1st Test against Sri Lanka at the Galle. Talking about the innings Shanto said that he did not know that he had achieved the feat. 'I didn't know that but feels very good to contribute for the team, so really happy. Great comeback after losing three wickets. The way Mushi bhai batted with me, it was brilliant,' he said at the post-match chat. 'Before the series, we didn't have enough confidence. We had great preparation for this series and we showed a lot of character in this match. After we declared, the way Taijul and Nayeem bowled, really happy. In these conditions, the way Nayeem bowled in the first innings was brilliant. He didn't have enough chances to play because of the combination but his work ethic is brilliant and he showed today how good he is,' he added. This was also the match where Angelo Mathews brought the curtain down on his red-ball career after more than 100 games for the hosts. Sri Lanka lost a couple of quick wickets before Mathews, a veteran with more than 8,000 test runs to his name, held steadfast with the bat – albeit barely scoring any runs. In the end, Bangladesh called it a day with the score on 72-4 with five overs left. Bangladesh had made Sri Lanka toil on the opening two days, amassing 495 runs in their first innings including 148 for Shanto and 163 for Rahim, with Litton Das (90) unlucky to miss out on a century of his own. Bangladesh off-spinner Nayeem Hasan, who had begun to extract turn and bounce on a pitch showing signs of wear on the fourth day, claimed 5-121 – his fourth five-wicket haul in tests – to ensure Sri Lanka could not build a lead of their own. The tourists then roared to 177-3 in their second innings at the end of the penultimate day for a healthy advantage, with Shadman Islam (76) giving them the chance to push for a rare overseas test victory and valuable World Test Championship points. After showers late in the opening session on the fifth day wiped out 26 overs, Shanto reached his well-deserved hundred and asked Sri Lanka to bat again and attempt to chase down their big target at an asking rate of eight runs an over. Pakistan set for Bangladesh T20I tour in July: report
The Pakistan men's cricket team will tour Bangladesh in July for a three-match T20I series, with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) expected to officially confirm the schedule next week, according to reports. The BCB has reportedly shared a proposed itinerary with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), outlining fixtures on 20, 22 and 24 July. All matches are set to be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. This bilateral series falls outside the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Future Tours Programme (FTP) and was arranged following high-level discussions between PCB and BCB officials on the sidelines of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, jointly hosted by Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. Bangladesh, currently led by Litton Das, recently completed a reciprocal tour of Pakistan where they were swept 3–0 in a T20I series. That campaign marked the first assignment for Pakistan's new white-ball head coach Mike Hesson and T20I skipper Salman Ali Agha. Following their matches in Bangladesh, Pakistan will travel to the West Indies for another white-ball assignment. A three-match T20I series is scheduled to begin on 31 July in the United States. Although an ODI leg is tentatively planned, reports suggest that the PCB and Cricket West Indies (CWI) are in talks to replace it with additional T20Is. The change would allow both teams to focus on upcoming T20 tournaments, including the 2025 ACC Men's Asia Cup and the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. As it stands, the T20Is against the West Indies are scheduled for 31 July, 2 August and 3 August. The proposed ODI series is slated to be held at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad on 8, 10 and 12 August, pending final confirmation. Further details on both tours, including any changes to the fixture list, are expected in the coming weeks.

These things won't bother Shanto and me: Mehidy Hasan on taking over as Bangladesh ODI captain
Dhaka: Mehidy Hasan Miraz confirmed the recent ODI captaincy shuffle will not affect the former captain Najmul Hossain Shanto or him as they collectively work as a team for the betterment of Bangladesh cricket. In a surprise and shocking move, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday appointed Miraz as ODI captain for the next 12 months. The 27-year-old will lead the team starting from the upcoming three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka next month, succeeding Shanto who remains Bangladesh Test captain with Miraz appointed as his deputy. "I don't know how (the captaincy) was decided. It is usually done in a board meeting. Nobody can decide on their own. I think all of us are usually prepared mentally for any situation we may have to face (as far getting axed is concerned)," Mehidy told reporters on Friday. "He was the ODI captain for a term, which had ended (in the Champions Trophy). They probably had conversations about the Test team. I am not sure if they spoke about the ODI team. Fahim sir (Nazmul Abedin - BCB cricket operation chairman) called me (yesterday) and said that they are going to give me the responsibility and he said that they don't have much time. They have to take a decision quickly. He said that they are planning accordingly." Miraz shares a strong rapport with Shanto, having played alongside him and also captained him at various age-group levels, including the 2016 U19 World Cup. He believes the opener will have no issues playing under his leadership once again. "He (Najmul) has been performing well in ODIs but it was the board's decision (to change the captaincy). We may not have fulfilled expectations in terms of team results during this period," he said. "I don't think it will have an effect on the dressing room (change in captaincy). We are all playing for the country. These things won't bother Shanto and me. I helped him a lot during his captaincy. He will do the same. He will help me. We want to take Bangladesh forward. "Shanto and I have been playing together since our Under-15s. We spoke about taking Bangladesh forward, it doesn't matter who is the captain. We have to play as a team. Our senior players brought us to a stage, and now we want to take the team further. It is our responsibility. We are going through a bad time but I hope that we can get over it quickly," Miraz added.

To coincide with the festivities, some of New York's best bars have invited top talent from London, Paris, Tokyo and then some behind their respective bars all week long. From block parties to intimate nights with international bars, here are a few takeovers to check out this week. Monday, June 9 Sip & Guzzle is inviting six of the most acclaimed cocktail bars in the country for a one-night-only bar experience. Starting at 4pm, the bi-level bar will host Washington D.C's Service Bar (number 23 North America's 50 Best Bars) and Allegory (number 45) for the first two hours, followed by Chicago's Best Intentions (number 25) and Kumiko (number 10) and San Francisco's Trick Dog (number 71) and True Laurel (number 17). The event is free, no reservations are needed. Time Out Market New York: Italicus Terrace Takeover Starting on June 9, Italicus is taking over the rooftop at Time Out Market New York for its Italicus Terrace Takeover. For one week, the Italian liqueur is painting the rooftop blue, bringing in its branded merch and shaking up classic cocktails made for sipping in the sun. Expect refreshing frozen cocktails, such as the frosé, passion fruit margaritas and even a chilled espresso martini made with Italicus bergamot liqueur and coffee liqueur, vodka and cold brew. Oh, and did we mention the boozy snow cones? The pop-up goes from now until June 15, no reservations are needed. Romeo's: Bacardi Block Party Romeo's is kicking off BCB with a block party. The event will explore The Savoy's rich legacy throughout the evening, paired with specialty cocktails, British-inspired cuisine and live jazz music.
