Tragic baby boy crushed to death after dad suffers fatal heart attack and collapses on top of him

A THREE-MONTH-OLD boy was fatally crushed when his dad suffered a heart attack while cuddling him in bed. Little Muhammad Nur Daniel Nurul Effendy and dad Nurul Effendy Ibrahim, 35, were found dead at their family home in Malaysia. 2 2 Dad Nurul was found unconscious by his wife, Azura, with their baby lying under his arm on Thursday. At first, Azura thought there had been a gas leak in the family's home in Melaka, in southern Malaysia, local media reports. She told media: "I knew something was wrong even though there was no blood. "My husband was unconscious and our baby, who was still breathing at that time, was pinned under his arm. However, our baby looked very weak and pale.' The tot, who had turned blue from the lack of oxygen, was rushed to hospital but died while receiving treatment. Relatives said that the night before, Nurul had complained of chest pains. The couple had reportedly waited 15 years for Muhammad, their third child. Cases of infants dying from asphyxiation while sleeping or cuddling with a parent are sadly not unique. Unintentional suffocation is the leading cause of injury death among infants under the age of one in the US, according to the National Institutes of Health. It is not recommended to co-sleep with babies, especially if they were born premature or with a low birth weight, as per guidance from the NHS. Falling asleep with a baby on a sofa or chair is said to greatly increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). It comes as missing Brit backpacker Jordan Johnson-Doyle was found dead in Malaysia in early June. Jordan, 25, from Southport, was last seen at a bar in capital Kuala Lumpur but then vanished - sparking a frantic search from family and police. Jordan had been travelling around south-east Asia while working remotely for an American software company. Malaysian police confirmed on June 5 that a body was found at the base of a lift shaft, and had been identified as Jordan. Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Mohd Isa said the force had "received information that a man was found lying on his back in the lift [shaft] on the ground floor of a construction site". He added that the post-mortem examination revealed "the cause of death was a chest injury sustained from a fall from height". The death is not being treated as suspicious. A FCDO spokesperson said at the time that the Foreign Office was "supporting the family of a British man who died in Malaysia".

PHOTO ILLUSTRATION: PIXABAY Baby in Malaysia dies after being pinned under father who had fatal heart attack A three-month-old boy in Malaysia died after he was pinned under his dead father, who had a heart attack. The two were found by the infant's mother at their home in Melaka's Kampung Perigi Hang Tuah at around 9.30am on June 19, reported national news agency Bernama . Upon the discovery, Ms Azura Abdul Malik, 40, rushed to her sister-in-law's house opposite hers to ask for help. 'She said the baby was unconscious and had turned blue after being pinned under my brother's arm,' Ms Masturadiana, 33, was quoted as saying by Bernama at Melaka Hospital. 'I immediately told her to take the baby to the hospital and asked the others to call an ambulance to check on my brother.' The baby, Muhammad Nur Daniel Nuruleffendy, reportedly died while receiving treatment at the hospital. Meanwhile, the father, 35-year-old Nuruleffendy Ibrahim was believed to have been dead for two to three hours before Ms Azura found him on the bed, said Ms Masturadiana. '(My brother's death) came as a shock since he had no known illnesses, just some leg pain and gout,' she said. He had, however, complained of chest pain the day before but refused to see a doctor, she added. Mr Nuruleffendy was the fourth of seven siblings . The tragedy-filled day was Ms Azura's first day back at work after concluding her maternity leave. 'She had gone to the office briefly before heading home to take (the baby) to the clinic for his three-month immunisation... She had left early, at around 6am, to send their two older children, aged 16 and 15, t o school,' Ms Masturadiana reportedly said. Bukit Katil Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Mohd Supian Md Dali said an emergency call was received from the hospital at 9.58am. 'We were informed that a male victim in his 30s had died at the scene, while his baby passed away while receiving treatment at the hospital,' he was quoted as saying by Bernama. 'The hospital had requested a team to inspect the house for possible gas leaks, but following further investigation, it was determined that the man had likely died of a heart attack.' #SHOWBIZ: Azura Aziz relieved that eldest son is finally a Malaysian citizen

KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Azura Aziz is relieved and grateful that her eldest son, Seiful Islam Ali, 22, affectionately known as Bubu, has finally obtained Malaysian citizenship after a lengthy process. In a recent interview with Harian Metro, Azura revealed the numerous obstacles she and her Egyptian husband, Cheb Ali, faced when their three Egyptian-born sons moved with them to Malaysia in 2017. "These problems arose from our lack of knowledge regarding the law," she explained. "Initially, we frequently travelled between Malaysia and Egypt. Our first two sons, Bubu and Safiyurrahman Ali, or Totti, were both born in Egypt and automatically acquired Egyptian citizenship as their father is an Egyptian national." Azura added that they later decided to prolong their stay in Egypt so their children could continue their studies at Al-Azhar University. "It was during that time that our third son, Nusratuddin Ali, or Mimo, was born." However, political instability following the Arab Spring forced the family to return to Malaysia in 2017. "That's when our difficulties truly began," Azura recounted. "Every year, we had to apply for student passes for the boys. They weren't eligible for textbook loans and were discouraged from participating in school activities." Azura and Cheb applied for Malaysian citizenship for their sons in September 2018. "After Bubu completed his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, things became particularly challenging," she said. "The Immigration Department informed us he could only remain in Malaysia if he attended a private university, which we simply couldn't afford." Good news finally arrived in July 2024, when the family received a letter from the Home Ministry confirming that their sons' applications for citizenship had been approved. Totti, 20, received his MyKad in January, while Bubu, 21, first had to relinquish his Egyptian citizenship. Currently, Bubu and Totti are studying at the National Arts, Culture and Heritage Academy (Aswara), while Mimo is in Year Five of primary school. "Thank you to the government," Azura expressed.

Federal Court dismisses habeas corpus appeal by GISB Holdings CEO, wife

PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Court has dismissed the habeas corpus appeal filed by GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) CEO Nasiruddin Mohd Ali and his wife, Azura Md Yusof. The two had filed an appeal challenging their detention under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma). The three-judge panel chaired by Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, decided on Thursday (May 15) that the application by Nasiruddin, 66, and Azura, 58, lacked merit. In the unanimous decision, she and Justices Datuk Abu Bakar Jais and Datuk Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera said the court rejected their appeal. "This appeal lacks merit, the application is dismissed, and the decision of the High Court is upheld," she said. Nasiruddin and Azura filed the habeas corpus application naming the Home Minister, the Inspector-General of Police, the Public Prosecutor, the Director of Selangor State and Kuala Lumpur Prisons, and the Government of Malaysia as respondents. Previously, on Jan 14, the Johor Bahru High Court dismissed the couple's habeas corpus application. Judge Datuk Abu Bakar Katar stated that when the Notice of Motion for the habeas corpus application was filed on Oct 24 last year, the applicants were not under Sosma detention. He stated that the applicants were under a valid Detention Warrant issued by the Selayang Sessions Court. For the record, the Shah Alam High Court granted eight female defendants, including Azura bail. All eight were charged with being members of a criminal group. However, Nasiruddin and 12 other applicants on the same charge were not granted bail. Last October, Nasiruddin, Azura, and 19 others were charged at the Selayang Sessions Court, but no pleas were recorded from all the accused after the charges were read out, as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court. According to the charges read separately, they were found to be members of an organised criminal group, Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH), at a location on Jalan Desa, in Bandar Country Homes, Rawang, between October 2020 and 11 September 2024. The charges were filed under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a minimum prison sentence of five years and a maximum of 20 years if convicted.

Lunate picks stake in wealth manager Azura Partners

Abu Dhabi-based alternative asset manager Lunate has reached an agreement to take a minority stake in Azura Partners. Azura works with high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs, and family offices globally. The acquisition will be executed through Lunate Holding RSC. The funding will allow Azura to enhance its team, adopt advanced technologies, and 'scale' its AUM. It will help the firm widen its offerings, with a particular focus on private market investment access. The wealth manager will continue to function autonomously under its current leadership. Established in 2019 by former Julius Baer executive Ali Jamal, Azura currently oversees $5bn in assets. It operates across seven international locations, including London, Geneva, and Singapore. The firm has 65 financial professionals, delivering tailored investment and advisory services. Additionally, Azura will shift its main office from Monaco to Abu Dhabi. The move is designed to utilise the benefits of the Abu Dhabi Global Market's legal and regulatory framework. Lunate's investment aligns with its strategy to tap 'high-growth' segments including wealth management. Wealth in the Middle East is projected to grow at 9.2% annually through to 2030. This pace surpasses the global average and points to rising regional demand for wealth solutions. Azura's model aims to address this increasing need across the market. Lunate managing partner Khalifa Al Suwaidi said: 'Lunate's investment in Azura Partners marks our entry into the wealth management space and reflects our commitment to further develop the suite of solutions and products that we can offer our growing client base. 'The partnership, moreover, underpins our strategy of expanding Lunate's footprint across the investor value chain.' Completion of the deal is contingent on regulatory clearance. Azura Partners founder, chairman, and CEO Ali Jamal said: 'With its dynamic management team and vision, Lunate is ideally placed to drive Azura Partners' ambitious future. Abu Dhabi has become a home for ultra-high net worth individuals and a hub for family offices - its emergence as a leading financial centre presents immense opportunities and synergies. 'This endorsement from Lunate aligns with our vision of becoming a leading global wealth manager and reflects our commitment to continuously enhance our offering, ensuring we provide our clients with the flexible, tailored solutions they need to confidently grow, manage and protect their wealth.'
