Watch: Johnny Depp Brings Jack Sparrow To Life For Kids At Madrid Hospital
Johnny Depp first stepped into the Jack Sparrow costume in 2003 with Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Captain Jack Sparrow dropped anchor in Madrid not to find treasure but to lift spirits. Johnny Depp brought a wave of pirate magic to Nino Jesús University Children's Hospital in Madrid earlier this week. The actor, dressed head-to-toe as Captain Jack Sparrow, surprised young patients on Monday, June 16. He visited the hospital after taking a break from filming his latest project Day Drinker in Spain. The video of the heartwarming visit was shared by the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. It showed Depp in character roaming the hospital's oncology ward. He is seen laughing with children and bringing pure joy to their hospital rooms. He handed out gifts to the children like shiny gold coins and mini-Jack Sparrow dolls. One of the patients gave him a bow which Depp immediately added to his pirate costume. The visit was filled with warm hugs, photos and autographs, leaving everyone with wide smiles. Just last year, in September 2024, he visited young patients in the Pediatrics and Oncology ward at Donostia University Hospital while attending the San Sebastian Film Festival. There too, he brought laughter to children and families in his pirate style. Over the years, Depp has made similar surprise appearances in hospitals across Vancouver, Paris, London, Brisbane and several cities in the US. Depp first stepped into the Jack Sparrow costume in 2003 with Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. He went on to star in four more films in the franchise: Dead Man's Chest (2006), At World's End (2007), On Stranger Tides (2011) and Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017). But following his highly publicised 2022 trial involving his ex-wife Amber Heard, Disney dropped him from the franchise. Depp then stated he had no plans of returning as Jack Sparrow. Johnny Depp made his first major on-screen appearance after a long break in the French-language film Jeanne du Barry. Directed by Maïwenn, the film featured Depp in the lead role, starring alongside the director herself. For his return to mainstream Hollywood, Depp is set to appear in the upcoming thriller Day Drinker where he will share the screen with Penélope Cruz and Madelyn Cline. The film is being directed by Marc Webb. First Published:

Keira Knightley says Pirates of the Caribbean gave her 'terrible actress' label
Keira Knightley says the public's reaction to her role in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise resulted in her being tagged as a 'terrible' actress. The Richmond-born actress, 40, starred as Elizabeth Swann in the three original Pirates films, which were released between 2003 and 2007. Starring alongside Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and Orlando Bloom as Will Turner, Keira shot to global fame in the role of Elizabeth aged just 18. The first film, The Curse of the Black Pearl, grossed roughly £480million at the global box office upon release – equivalent to around £870m in 2025. After two sequels – Dead Man's Chest and At World's End – the original trilogy had grossed almost £2billion when Keira first left the series in 2007. But despite the major global success with movie fans, the Pirates franchise always found it hard to win critics over – and Keira says that problem stuck with her. She told Vanity Fair: 'I think in the public consciousness, I was seen as a terrible actress [after Pirates of the Caribbean was released in cinemas].' Keira spoke to the publication recently to mark the 20th anniversary of Pride & Prejudice, which she now regards as her first project that was acclaimed by audiences and critics alike. 'I had this phenomenally big success with Pirates. [But] I think Pride & Prejudice was the first one that was a phenomenally big success but was also critically acclaimed. '[Pride & Prejudice was released] around the same time as Pirates 2. I got the worst reviews ever for that. But then [I was] nominated for an Oscar at the same time – it was, in my 21-year-old head, quite confusing.' Keira starred as Lizzy Bennett in the 2005 adaptation of the Jane Austen 1813 novel, opposite Succession actor Matthew Macfadyen in the role of Mr. Darcy. The acclaimed film also featured work from esteemed names such as Donald Sutherland, Carey Mulligan, Tom Hollander, Rosamund Pike, Judi Dench. While the first three Pirates films were slapped with a mixed Rotten Tomatoes rating of 58% (on average), Pride & Prejudice was much more warmly received at 87%. The films were loved by fans but were especially loathed by then-BBC film critic Mark Kermode – his co-host Simon Mayo famously started reading a newspaper instead of listening to one of Mark's signature rants about At World's End. Speaking about Keira's performance during his review, Mark said: 'When Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom are on screen together, it's like two chairs mating.' Dubbing her 'Ikea Knightley', Mark apparently drew the ire of one Benedict Cumberbatch, who, according to Keira, defended her to the film critic's face and even gave him a punch on the arm. She told Elle Magazine in 2014: 'When I saw Benedict, I said, 'Did you punch a journalist?' And he said he did. Everybody needs a friend like that.' More Trending Around the time of the release of the first Pirates film, Keira was also working with Richard Curtis on the 2003 Christmas romance film Love, Actually. Years later, Richard revealed that Keira had several worries about starring in the seafaring series, confessing that she thought it would sink rather than swim. 'I remember sitting down with Keira while we were shooting,' he told ABC News, before asking Knightley what her next project was. Richard continued: 'She said, 'I don't think it's going to work. It's a pirate film, and they always fail'.' Got a story? Orlando Bloom expresses optimism about potential return to Pirates of the Caribbean franchise
Nearly a decade after Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales premiered, speculation about the future of the beloved Disney franchise continues to grow. With two new films reportedly in development and rumors swirling about a possible reconciliation between Disney and Johnny Depp, longtime fans are eager to see familiar faces return — including Orlando Bloom. Appearing on ITV's This Morning to promote his upcoming film Deep Cover, Bloom was asked about potentially reprising his role as Will Turner. While remaining cautious, he appeared open to the idea, saying, 'Well, I don't know, I can't say anything at the moment because I really don't know, but there's definitely availability.' He added, 'I think they're trying to work out what it would all look like. I personally think it'd be great to get the band back together.' Bloom was a central figure in the original trilogy but stepped away from the franchise after 2007's At World's End, only returning for a brief post-credits appearance in Dead Men Tell No Tales. Though his cameo — alongside co-stars Keira Knightley and Bill Nighy — hinted at a potential reunion, the series was soon derailed by legal and public controversies surrounding Johnny Depp. Franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer previously confirmed to Collider that two scripts are in development. One is being written by Rush Hour and Catch Me If You Can screenwriter Jeff Nathanson. 'We have another one… We have two, and we don't know who's gonna win the horse race at this point,' Bruckheimer stated. With Bloom expressing enthusiasm and developments underway, the possibility of a revived Pirates ensemble remains afloat.

Keira Knightley looks effortlessly chic in a flowing white and black gown as she attends Chanel Cruise fashion show in Italy
Keira Knightley looked effortlessly chic in a flowing white and black gown at the Chanel Cruise 2025 fashion show in Como, Italy on Tuesday. The American actress, 40, turned heads as she arrived at the luxury five-star Villa D'Este for the annual show. Keira looked out of this world in the very elegant maxi dress, adorned with black bow motifs and a pearl belt. The beauty has been married to her husband James Righton since 2013, and they are parents to two children, Edie, nine and Delilah, five. Elsewhere at the catwalk, French model and music producer Caroline de Maigret, 50, showcased her age-defying looks in black tailored trousers and a cream blouse. Meanwhile, French-Romanian actress Anamaria Vartolomei, 26, couldn't contain her laughter as she shielded her face from the sun. Italian actress Gaia Girace, 21, looked chic in a black pleated leather skirt and miniature Chanel handbag. Actress Selene Caramazza put on a very leggy display and flashed her torso in a stylish black co-ord. Keira's Italian outing comes after she spoke about her mixed feelings surrounding her role in Pirates of the Caribbean films while promoting her Netflix series Black Doves. In an interview with The Times, the two-time Oscar nominee said the franchise 'was making and breaking' her at the same time. 'I was seen as s*** because of them,' she explained, 'and yet because they did so well, I was given the opportunity to do the films that I ended up getting Oscar nominations for.' Keira said they were 'the most successful films I'll ever be a part of, and they were the reason that I was taken down publicly. So they're a very confused place in my head.' The 2003 Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl helped launch Keira's career into the stratosphere, but it came with a cost. The action adventure starring Orlando Bloom, Jeffrey Rush and Johnny Depp made more than $654 million worldwide according to Box Office Mojo. The film received average reviews from critics, but audiences disagreed and showed their approval in box office ticket sales. Keira and Orlando starred in two more films in the franchise, 2006's Dead Man's Chest and 2007's At World's End. Both were panned by critics, but were big winners at the box office, with Dead Man's Chest earning more than $1 billion and At World's End coming in close with more than $961 million. The attention from the film resulted in a lot of attention on Keira appearance, including her thinness and she was accused in the media of having an eating disorder. She also revealed in 2018 she had been treated for post-traumatic stress. 'In that classic trauma way I don't remember it,' she told the outlet. Netflix has also announced it has renewed Black Doves for a second season after the first of the thriller series became a hit with fans - and royalty. It was an instant hit, flying to the top of the charts as viewers dubbed it a ' Christmas series' and it even made it to Kensington Palace. Whilst handing out Christmas presents to children and families at a party for 1st Battalion Mercian Regiment in Wiltshire, Prince William revealed he and Princess Catherine have been sitting down to watch Black Doves.

Sharon Osbourne Regrets Stopping Ozzy From Auditioning for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean'
Ozzy Osbourne was once invited to audition for a role in Pirates of the Caribbean—but the opportunity was shut down by his longtime manager and wife, Sharon Osbourne. During a recent appearance on Billy Corgan's The Magnificent Others podcast, Sharon revealed what she considers the 'biggest mistake' she ever made on the legendary Black Sabbath frontman's behalf. 'He got offered to go and read for Pirates of the Caribbean, and I've never said this to anyone,' she admitted to the Smashing Pumpkins frontman. 'And I said no. Now wouldn't he have been perfect?' More from Billboard The Wombats Recall 'Pretty Freaky' Incident in Rio de Janeiro Green Day Are Seeking 'Punks, Emo, Hardcore & Alt People' for New Film Blink-182's Mark Hoppus Announces Tour for New Memoir, 'Fahrenheit-182' Corgan immediately agreed, responding, 'He would have been perfect! Maybe it's not too late, but God bless.' While it remains unclear which character Ozzy was being considered for, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has a history of casting rock legends. The Rolling Stones' Keith Richards famously played Captain Teague, the father of Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow, in At World's End (2007) and On Stranger Tides (2011). Paul McCartney also made an appearance in Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) as Jack Sparrow's uncle, Uncle Jack. Given Ozzy's unmistakable persona and theatrical stage presence, it's easy to imagine him fitting right into the swashbuckling world of the blockbuster franchise. Beyond his near brush with Hollywood, Ozzy has remained active in music despite ongoing health struggles. In recent years, he released Patient Number 9 (2022), which earned a Grammy for Best Rock Album, and announced his retirement from touring due to health concerns. Meanwhile, Black Sabbath's final reunion show is set to take place on July 5 in Birmingham, featuring appearances from Guns N' Roses, Tool, and even actor Jason Momoa. While Ozzy never got his shot at the high seas, his legacy as the Prince of Darkness remains untouchable—onstage and, perhaps, in an alternate timeline, on the big screen.
