Rosé Beats Two BTS Singles For A New Spot In The History Books

When Rosé released "Apt.," her 2024 collaboration with Bruno Mars, its initial success came thanks to fans rushing to stream the track. That's not an uncommon sight for K-pop superstars, as their massive followings understand how the charts work and focus their energy on pushing a title as high as possible in its first frame. In the months since its debut, "Apt." has remained on the Billboard rankings thanks not only to continued sales and streaming success, but also a very healthy run at radio in the United States. Throughout its lifetime, "Apt." has made history in a number of ways on Billboard's pop radio rankings, and it does so again this week on one of those tallies. As of this frame, "Apt." has lived on the Adult Contemporary chart for 21 weeks. That now stands as an all-time longevity record among K-pop tunes. Last week, Rosé was tied with two tracks by BTS, which had jointly held this honor. Both "Dynamite" and "My Universe," the latter a collaboration with Coldplay, spent 20 frames somewhere on the list of the most successful compositions across all Adult Contemporary radio stations in the U.S. Now, "Apt." has passed both, with the New Zealand-born South Korean music industry superstar surging forward. Rosé now owns this bit of history, and she may continue to further her lead over the two BTS smashes. Her track climbs two spaces to No. 24 on the current edition of the Adult Contemporary chart. There's a good chance it will live on this ranking for several more frames, if not another month or so. Coincidentally, "Apt.," "My Universe," and "Dynamite" are also tied as the highest-rising singles ever by a K-pop artist on the Adult Contemporary chart. All three of them stalled at No. 16 at one point or another across the half-decade since "Dynamite" debuted.

Rosé Matches Jimin's All-Time Record

After months on the Billboard charts, "Apt." by Rosé and Bruno Mars is largely on the decline. This week, the tune falls on almost every tally on which it appears in the United States, though it remains a global powerhouse. While the cut is descending, it still manages to make history as it lives on the Hot 100 for another frame, matching an important all-time record. "Apt." has now spent 33 weeks on the Hot 100, Billboard's list of the most consumed tracks in the U.S. The tune is now tied with "Who" by BTS star Jimin for the title of the longest-charting track by any K-pop artist in American history. Last week, "Apt." was tied with "Dynamite" by BTS, with 32 stays on the Hot 100, for second place. Now, as it dips from No. 22 to No. 24, Rosé passes the South Korean boy band and matches with one of its members for this special place in the history books. The cut is still performing well enough at pop radio, and when it comes to pure purchases, that it will likely continue to live on the Hot 100 for at least one more frame — perhaps several. In a few days, when Billboard refreshes the rankings, there's a good chance that Rosé will be able to beat Jimin's showing and claim for herself the title of the longest-charting song by any K-pop act on the Hot 100. Rosé is best known for her K-pop output, both as a member of Blackpink and on her own. "Apt." is performed partially in Korean, although many of her solo cuts are in the English language. She was born in New Zealand, but musically, she is most recognized for her K-pop efforts. "Apt." lives on three of Billboard's radio tallies, including the Radio Songs, Adult Contemporary, and Adult Pop Airplay charts. While it's stepping back on all of them, the collaboration still appears inside the top 10 on the latter list. Impressively, after 33 weeks on the Digital Song Sales chart, "Apt." manages to climb this frame. The cut pushes just one space north to No. 17, selling just under 2,000 copies, according to Luminate.

Rosé Matches BTS's All-Time Billboard Record

Rosé's hit 'Apt.' with Bruno Mars ties BTS's 'Dynamite' for the second-longest Hot 100 run by a ... More K-pop artist, reaching 32 weeks. NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 02: Rosé attends as Tiffany & Co. celebrates the debut of the Tiffany Titan by Pharrell Williams Collection at Tiffany & Co. Landmark on May 02, 2024 in New York City. (Photo byfor Tiffany & Co.) After Morgan Wallen inundated the Hot 100 last week with dozens of tracks from his new No. 1 album I'm the Problem, the tally becomes slightly less competitive this frame. Several of the country superstar's tunes decline, making more room toward the top for a handful of smashes that had been performing incredibly well, but which fell when the singer-songwriter invaded the list – but they are now regaining ground. Rosé's hit 'Apt.,' her hugely popular collaboration with Bruno Mars, is one such tune. It rises this frame as it makes space once more near the upper reaches of the ranking. As it does, the Blackpink singer ties the most successful group in K-pop history for a coveted spot in Billboard chart history. 'Apt.' has spent 32 weeks on the Hot 100. The smash is now matched with 'Dynamite' by BTS, which fell off the tally after 32 frames. It reaches that important milestone as it advances from No. 28 to No. 22 during a quieter period on the tally. Rosé's tune is now tied as the second-longest-charting track in U.S. history by a K-pop musician. Although originally from New Zealand, Rosé is closely associated with the K-pop style thanks to her career beginnings in Blackpink. Much of her output is at least partially related to that genre — including 'Apt.,' which features both English and Korean lyrics. Just last week, 'Apt.' was on the same level as 'Gangnam Style,' the first K-pop hit many Americans were familiar with. That track, which peaked at No. 2 more than a decade ago, racked up 31 stays on the Hot 100 and, for many years, reigned as the highest-charting and longest-lasting success by any K-pop artist in America. 'Apt.' now needs just one more frame to tie the all-time best showing by a K-pop star. That honor belongs to Jimin, one of the seven singers that make up BTS. He kept his tune 'Who' on the tally for 33 weeks, starting in mid-2024. While Jimin's track only climbed to No. 12, it remained on the list for months. Since 'Apt.' is still present just outside the top 20, it seems likely Rosé will match Jimin's showing — and may even beat it in time.

South Korea tops Coldplay's LED wristbands return rate for world tour

Coldplay fans in South Korea have officially broken the record for the highest return rate of the group's recyclable wristbands at the end of each show. As part of its sustainability efforts for its ongoing Music Of The Spheres world tour, British rock band Coldplay has introduced numerous green initiatives at its shows worldwide, including kinetic dance floors and energy-storing stationary bikes. One initiative that has caused a friendly rivalry between countries is its compostable LED wristbands, also known as Xylobands. These Xylobands, which are made from plant-based plastic, are given out to attendees before each show. Coldplay encourages concert-goers to return the wristbands after the show so that they can be sanitised, recharged and reused for the next performance. At the start of each show, a leaderboard showing the top countries with the highest Xyloband return rates is flashed onscreen. Before the start of Coldplay's fifth show at South Korea's Goyang Stadium on Thursday (Apr 24), the leaderboard revealed that South Korea has achieved a wristband return rate of 99 per cent. This puts the country at number one – ahead of Japan and Finland, both of which achieved a return rate of 97 per cent. Singapore's return rate was 91 per cent. Fans in South Korea have since celebrated the achievement. According to an attendee who was interviewed by The Korea Times, "people erupted into thundering cheers as they saw the '99 per cent' on screen before the show". Coldplay's six-night concert in South Korea, which ended on Apr 25, also saw the band collaborating with members of what has been dubbed "The Big Three Of K-Pop": BTS, Blackpink and Twice. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jin of BTS (@jin) BTS member Jin made surprise appearances on two nights where he sang his single The Astronaut, which was co-written by members of Coldplay, as well as the collaboration track My Universe. Apt has recently become the longest-charting song by a female K-pop artiste on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. The nine-member group also unveiled and performed its collaboration track with Coldplay – a remix of the song We Pray. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Coldplay (@coldplay)
