What to Stream on TV This Weekend: 'The Gilded Age,' 'A Minecraft Movie,' 'The Waterfront' and More
This week's newest releases on streaming include a couple of Gilded Age dramas (yes, two of those are premiering this week!), Netflix's latest scripted drama and the long-awaited premiere of A Minecraft Movie on Max. Here's what we're looking forward to. It's been nearly two years since the Season 2 finale of HBO's The Gilded Age, and the Julian Fellowes series about New York's upper crust, circa 1885, is finally back. The show premieres on Sunday night; if you've been longing for Christine Baranski's cruel and casual insults, buckle up (your old-timey shoes) and get ready. Apple TV Plus is also getting in on the Gilded era action with The Buccaneers, which is now out. The show, which co-stars Kristine Frøseth, Alisha Boe, Aubri Ibrag and Josie Totah, also welcomes Leighton Meester to the cast this season. If you're looking for a binge-worthy, soapy drama, check out Netflix's The Waterfront, which stars Maria Bello, Holt McCallany and Melissa Benoist. The show's writer, Kevin Williamson, recently revealed that the series is based on his own family and his father's past as a drug trafficker. These shows, plus the release of films like Love Me and A Minecraft Movie are sure to keep everyone busy this weekend -- here's all the info you need to tune in. Netflix America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (June 18) Season 2 of Netflix's America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders premiered on June 18, picking up at the start of the NFL 2024-25 season. All seven episodes of the new season are now available to binge. Prime Video Prime Video We Were Liars (June 18) We Were Liars is Prime Video's new adaptation of E. Lockhart's acclaimed novel; the eight episode series arrived on June 18, so you can binge the thriller all at once. The series stars Emily Alyn Lind as Cadence Sinclair Eastman, a wealthy young woman born into an old-money family who owns a private island in New England. Cadence has an enviable life, surrounded by a friend group known as the liars, but their idyllic life on the island is disrupted when a mysterious accident changes everything. Max Warner Bros. Pictures A Minecraft Movie (June 20) A Minecraft Movie, the movie responsible for food-covered movie theaters and that "Steve's Lava Chicken" song that was in your head for a month, is out on Max this Friday. HBO The Gilded Age, Season 3 (June 22) This season on The Gilded Age, get ready for more new money-old money clashes, romance and drama under the stairs. Will all that money turn the tables in the van Rhijn household? The new season premieres Sunday, June 22, and new episodes air every Sunday this summer. Paramount Plus Bleecker Street Love Me (June 16) Kristin Stewart and Steven Yeun star in the post-apocalyptic love story Love Me, which debuted exclusively on Paramount Plus this week. Phone 3 is big news from Nothing so wait for now and let the chips fall where they may
People, they care about Nothing. It is weird but true how a smartphone brand can elicit a response with their slightest move, even today, when clearly there are other pressing matters that perhaps need more attention. Everywhere you go, it feels like the world is at war, or at some crossroad substantial enough to change the course of human life as we know optimists will say, isn't it a good thing if something helps lessen the blow, so you can hit pause and feel some joy? Absolutely. Bring it on. It is tragic, but life can also be beautiful sometimes. Different people find happiness in different things. Some find it in discussing tech, the latest gadgets, smartphones, what have you. But some people also like to assume remarkable as humans are and can be, some of us are in the habit of expecting the worst from things and people without getting to know them first. When something or someone isn't up their alley of thought and expectations, you'll see them getting hassled for no rhyme or reason. It's a perception thing. Sometimes, people also like to follow the herd, aligning their thoughts and expectations with what would appear as a consensus in life or on social There is no right or wrong here, but to all those people, I say, go watch Ted Lasso on Apple TV Plus and if you can't for some reason, go watch this one specific scene where the protagonist – who is an American football coach hired to manage a British soccer team – talks about being curious, not judgemental, while playing a game of darts in a setting where he seems quite out of place. You can find it on YouTube. Now, Ted – or rather, the makers of the show – did not coin the phrase, but I mean, that hardly matters in this bigger takeaway is that you should not be judgemental. But be curious. The world at large was curious as long as the Phone 3 was just an idea. There were hopes and expectations that it would look a certain way and have a particular type of hardware set because Nothing threw a curveball that it was making a true flagship, its first ever. It did not – and this is important – share any other details though. Brands do need to build hype and make people excited about their products. It is the same for as we approach D-Day – the Phone 3 will officially break cover on July 1 – it has started revealing more of the biggest updates are: there will be no glyph lights (but something else instead) and it will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor. Based on this data, people hugely invested in these things, have started to paint a picture of what this upcoming phone could look like. That is okay. They are curious. If anything, it helps Nothing's cause. Not many brands can create this level of engagement what's perplexing is how some are judging it solely based on one spec – the chip – even before the Phone 3 has started shipping. They've not even seen it yet and already formed an opinion. One user on X called it a 'robbery', given the phone is confirmed to cost around 800 Euros. It won't be cheap, at least in Europe, but to liken it to being overpriced just because it has a certain chip is premature and a bit harsh. To be fair, Nothing never promised anything. Not Snapdragon 8 Elite, not Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 – nothing. So, technically, it didn't break any rules. If you were expecting something different, it is your problem. Deal with it. Okay, maybe that was harsh, too. My apologies if I was out of here's the thing. The smartphone market is full of choices. Even at the higher end, there are a bunch of options. Not all are alike. And specifically, not all phones have the fastest chip in the world. The Pixel 9 series is one of the biggest outliers where, even though Google has used a chip which is based on older Samsung Exynos tech, it performs brilliantly in day-to-day. It, too, received a lot of flak at the beginning. Some criticise Google, even to Apple, the iPhone 16 has a chip which is technically not as fast as the pro variant it puts inside the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models. If anything, these examples should make you feel pumped up about what Nothing could do with the Phone 3 given its fantastic track record with software. Not judge it, but be a little curious about how a small startup from London with a former OnePlus co-founder at the helm, is taking on the biggies. We all love a good underdog story and here's one that is ripe with possibilities. There's a 50-50 chance that it might fail, but do you ever wonder – what if it wins? Now that will be In

Brian Tyree Henry's 5 Favorite Places in Philadelphia
If your memories of summer camp don't involve eight-course tasting menus and vintage fashion shopping sprees, well, perhaps you weren't doing it right. Or you were never in a stalled Apple TV+ production with Brian Tyree Henry. Mr. Henry, 43, who recently received the Gotham Television Awards' first Performer Tribute for his role in 'Dope Thief,' is the star and an executive producer of this crime drama about two friends who try to earn a living as fake drug enforcement agents. The limited series was not quite halfway through filming in Philadelphia when Hollywood writers went on strike in 2023, soon followed by actors. He decided to make the best of a bad situation by staying put and diving as deeply as possible into his character's hometown. During the work stoppage, which lasted six months, 'the Philly crew was still there, and they were my friends,' Mr. Henry said in a video interview. 'So my time in Philly felt like sleep-away camp.' He learned a lot. For starters: 'Philly natives love Philly,' he said. 'If I walked out of my house in anything green and white, it had better have an eagle on it.' He also discovered that he didn't need to stray far from his Center City rental to find a happy place: the tiny 17th-century Rittenhouse Square. 'You can sit in the park and read a book, and then go and chill out and have a good meal across the street,' he said, citing the steak, popovers and tater tots at Barclay Prime among his favorite examples. Another neighborhood staple was the Rittenhouse Spa & Club, where regular facials helped mitigate the 'sweat, blood, smoke and gunpowder' he was covered in during filming. 'They would be like, 'What did you go through this week?'' he said. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.
