Elavarasan takes charge of Kelantan Darul Naim

KUALA LUMPUR: Former national Under-23 coach E. Elavarasan and Muamer Salibasic have been tasked with reviving Kelantan Darul Naim's (KDN) fortunes as they prepare for the 2025-26 M-League season. Elavarasan brings a proven track record to the East Coast side. During his stint with Malaysia's Under-23 team, he guided them to the 2023 Merlion Cup title, a semi-final finish at the AFF Championship, and qualification for the 2024 Asian Cup as one of the best second-placed teams in the qualifiers. He stepped down from the role on Sept 18, 2023 to focus on assisting then-national coach Kim Pan Gon with the senior squad. His new partner in the KDN dugout, Bosnian-born Salibasic, holds a UEFA Pro Licence and has built a solid coaching reputation across Europe and the Middle East. The 41-year-old, who played for Sabah in the M-League in 2013, has recently coached clubs in Bosnia and Sweden. Former Kelantan FA president Tan Sri Annuar Musa confirmed the duo's appointments and praised KDN's ambition to restore footballing pride in the state. "Congratulations to the only team from Kelantan that will play in the 2025-26 season. Welcome to Elavarasan and Salibasic, who will work hand in hand to train Kelantan," Annuar said in a Facebook post. "Kelantan are serious about bringing back the glory of football." Annuar, who oversaw Kelantan's golden era from 2009 to 2016, played a major role in turning the Red Warriors into one of Malaysian football's most dominant forces. Under his leadership, Kelantan won two Super League titles, two FA Cups, and the Malaysia Cup, earning recognition as one of the best-run teams in the country. He was also a long-serving FAM executive committee member and chairman of the M-League team management committee. In his social media post, Annuar also revealed that KDN have strengthened their squad with the signing of several national players from Asean, Asia and Africa. "Some Asean, Asian and African national players have been roped in to shape Kelantan's new-look team. All the best to Kelantan," he said.

Graduates urged to embrace challenges, not be too selective in job hunt

Dr Annuar addresses the audience during the event. – Photo by Galileo Petingi KOTA SAMARAHAN (June 18): Graduates should not be overly selective when searching for a job, as challenges in the workplace are vital for both personal and professional growth, said Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee. Speaking at the Talent Recruitment and Career Exhibition (TRACE) event held at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) here yesterday, he acknowledged the difficulties graduates face in securing employment, but urged them to focus on gaining experience rather than prioritising convenience. 'Many people choose jobs based on location, often wanting to stay close to their hometowns. However, I believe that the further you go, the more challenges you face — and life without challenges holds no meaning,' he said. Dr Annuar, who officiated the event on behalf of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, also cautioned against frequent job hopping solely for salary increment, emphasising that expertise in a field requires time and dedication. 'Yes, money is important, but the experience gained in a job is irreplaceable. Constantly switching jobs means repeatedly starting from scratch. 'To become a specialist, one must commit to a role for at least five years before considering a career change or pursuing further studies,' he explained. Moreover, Dr Annuar highlighted the pressure graduates face upon completing their degrees, particularly in dealing with student loans, such as the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN). 'The moment a graduate finishes their studies, the first question they are asked is, 'Have you found a job?' 'It is a stressful situation, especially when financial obligations come into play,' he said. He also expressed hope that TRACE would provide valuable guidance to students as they navigate their journey toward employment. dr annuar rapaee education fresh graduates job opportunities

Abang Johari: Future of employment lies in adaptability, courage

Dr Annuar (right) visits one of the exhibition booths at the event KUCHING (June 17): The future of employment is no longer about who is the smartest on paper, but rather about who is the most adaptable, the fastest learner, and the bravest in taking on new challenges, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. In saying this, he asserted that to achieve the status of a developed nation, human capital plays a crucial role as the primary driver of economic development and growth. If human capital development is not given due attention and appropriate investment, the nation's economy will not grow sustainably, he added. 'Therefore, it is vital for us to cultivate a workforce that is holistic, highly skilled, and capable of adapting to the ever-changing economic landscape. 'This ability can only be achieved if our graduates are equipped with knowledge, skills, critical thinking, moral values, and entrepreneurial spirit, ' he said in his text speech at the opening ceremony of the Talent Recruitment and Career Exhibition (Trace) 2025 at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) here today. 'Today is not just an opportunity to find employment but a moment for us to assess the preparedness of Sarawakian and Malaysian youth in facing future waves of change,' he added. His text speech was read by Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, who represented him at the event. The Premier further urged graduates to understand the direction of the state's development so that they can be prepared to contribute to the progress of Sarawak and the nation. He emphasised that the wide availability of job opportunities created by the Sarawak government would only have a meaningful impact if graduates possessed an adaptive mindset, creativity, and a global perspective. Among those present at the event was Unimas Deputy Dean of Student Affairs and Alumni Prof Dr Al-Khalid Othman, who represented vice-chancellor Prof Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit. Malay Secretariat move deepens political rift

PLANS to establish a Malay Secretariat as an umbrella body to unite the Malays are facing criticism from top UMNO leaders, including party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Puad Zarkashi, thus cementing the existing divisions in the Malay political landscape. Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, said the Malay unity agenda should not be used as a political gimmick, adding that while UMNO is not against any parties who are attempting to unite the Malays, the motive for its struggle must be clear and not just for political purposes. He added that UMNO would not accept any form of secretariat that supposedly aims to unite the Malays on a political basis. At the same time, Zahid took jibes at former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who backs a Malay Secretariat, whom he said lost his deposit in the 2022 general elections. Dr Mahathir had reportedly formed the secretariat to unite all parties fighting for the Malays under one big umbrella on June 4. 'I would like to wish the chairperson of the Malay Secretariat all the best, and I pray that he will succeed in uniting Malay parties and Malay non-governmental organisations for the benefit of the Malays. 'Let us unite in what is important in terms of thought, mindset, and conscience, not for any other purpose when the organising party is trying to unite the Malays after not having a winner in the last election, apart from all losing deposits,' he said last week. Meanwhile, the secretariat idea was dismissed by Puad, who criticised Perikatan Nasional's (PN) Tan Sri Annuar Musa for initiating the so-called 'umbrella' initiative. He considers the secretariat to be laden with political manoeuvring and suggested that Annuar should instead help PAS rectify its political approach rather than forming such a secretariat. 'What's with Annuar Musa now? Wanting to establish a Malay secretariat? You're a politician. Too much political scheming. Just stay in PAS. Strengthen your unity within PN first. 'Fix PAS' way of politicking, which hides behind religion and loves to judge. That's the reason Malays are divided,' he wrote in a Facebook post. Puad also chided Annuar for what he saw as a failed attempt to unite the Malays with the Muafakat Nasional (MN). He urged Annuar not to add to the confusion among Malays with another 'secretariat'. 'You already have MN. We know MN wasn't born from the sweat of your struggle. It wasn't born from events like the Malays opposing the Malayan Union. 'Don't confuse the Malays. Big Malay umbrella, Malay Secretariat, Malays under threat. Turns out, you're the one threatening Malay unity,' he said. — June 15, 2025 Main photo credit: Berita Harian

Nangka rep reaffirms commitment to rural development during Gawai longhouse visits

Dr Annuar (centre) joins longhouse chief Tuai Rumah Kawau (fourth right) and community leader Penghulu Eddy (third left) for a Gawai cake-cutting ceremony. SIBU (June 12): Nangka assemblyman Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee visited seven longhouses during the recent Gawai Dayak celebrations, reaffirming his commitment to basic infrastructure and utilities in the area – starting with the newly established Rumah Donny Nyanggai and Rumah Kawau Anggang. At Rumah Donny, a 12-door longhouse developed under the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Dr Annuar announced several key initiatives. These include the construction of a paved access road, a public toilet facility, and the upgrading of the 'ruai' ceiling and flooring. A total of RM150,000 has already been allocated for the project. Dr Annuar, who also serves as the deputy minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, shared that gazettement of Rumah Donny is being considered to facilitate future development approvals. He emphasised that essential utilities – namely electricity, clean water supply, and telecommunications – are being prioritised. 'For electricity, internal wiring must be completed by certified contractors before Sarawak Energy Berhad can proceed with supply connection after Gawai or in the near future,' he explained. At Rumah Kawau Anggang, a 25-door longhouse, Dr Annuar gave assurance that clean water and electricity issues would be resolved promptly, with road access to the area also prioritised. To tackle internet challenges in rural areas, he proposed the use of Starlink satellite technology as a more efficient solution than building telecommunications towers, especially in sparsely populated areas. For 2026, Dr Annuar has approved RM300,000 for the installation of ceilings, lighting, and fans in the ruai areas across all 34 longhouses in his constituency as part of a broad upgrade initiative. During his stop at the Kemas kindergarten at Rumah Jawin Janting, Dr Annuat expressed commitment to work with local village chiefs Tuai Rumah Jawin, Tuai Rumah Jangan Pung, and Tuai Rumah Ba'ie Bundan to identify a suitable location for a children's playground. 'Although it may take some time, I will see to it that the playground becomes a reality,' he assured. Before lunch, he visited Rumah Ba'ie Bundan, where he approved the construction of 16 ruai door sections. In the afternoon, visits continued to Rumah Jangan Pung, Rumah Melissa Ilong and Rumah Jok Ingon. Three additional longhouses – Rumah Miskin Lanting, Rumah Manjah Ediaze and Rumah Nicholas Bennet Ben – were also scheduled for visits on Friday, but had to be postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. dr annuar rapaee Gawai longhouse rural development Sibu
