Investors flock to Chinese herbal medicine stock with no revenues

Regencell Bioscience Holdings' NASDAQ stock price rallied with a 280% increase on Monday and another 25% on Tuesday after a recent 38-for-1 stock split took effect on Thursday. File Photo by Angelina Katsanis/UPI | License Photo June 17 (UPI) -- Shares in Hong Kong-based Regencell Bioscience Holdings nearly quadrupled in value amid a 38-to-1 stock split despite the firm reporting no revenues. The stock split triggered a 280% share price increase on Monday, CNBC reported, and continued a 58,000% increase in its price in 2025, with a closing cost of $78 per share on the NASDAQ trading platform on Tuesday. The stock reached a high of $81.23 during morning trading and slumped slightly to $75.47 during Tuesday's after-hours trading. The stock is rated as a "buy" on the TipRanks website after Regencell officials on June 2 announced the stock split to improve its liquidity and value for shareholders. The stock split gave investors 37 shares for each share held on June 12. The shares began trading on a split-adjusted basis on Monday, according to Seeking Alpha. The firm has no reported revenue but says it is developing a Chinese herbal treatment for childhood attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism. The firm was established in 2014 and has been traded on NASDAQ under the RGC symbol since 202. It had a market capitalization of $29.7 billion at the end of trading on Monday. The market capitalization rose another 25% on Tuesday, with a total value of $36 billion. The stock traded for pennies per share last year but now has a greater market value than highly recognized businesses, including Kraft Heinz, Lululemon and eBay, according to CNBC. Part of the increased investor interest is due to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. raising awareness of alternative medicines. Regencell Chief Executive Officer Yat-Gai Au controls more than 86% of the company's outstanding shares, according to FactSet. Little information is available about the potential effectiveness of the company's claims regarding its three traditional Chinese medicine formulas that are supposed to treat mild to severe forms of ADHD and autism with natural herbal medications in liquid form. Company officials in October reported no generated revenue and no regulatory approvals for its three liquid medicines. They reported net losses of $6.06 million in 2023 and $4.36 million in 2024. A Regencell patient case study in late 2023 said 28 patients were treated over three months during a second trial, which showed improvements in ADHD and autism. A dozen patients participated in a 2021 study to treat COVID-19, which indicated improvement in their symptoms.

Nasdaq-traded Zoomcar discloses data breach affecting 8.4M users in India

Zoomcar, a car-sharing business, is traded on Nasdaq. The company revealed that a hacker accessed the personal data of at least 8.4 million customers in India, according to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. File Photo by Angelina Katsanis/UPI | License Photo June 16 (UPI) -- Zoomcar, a car-sharing business, has revealed that a hacker accessed the personal data of at least 8.4 million customers in India, according to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The SEC was notified of the data breach because it became a public company in Delaware in late 2023 after a merger with an American blank-check firm IOAC. Its shares are traded on the Nasdaq exchange and the price declined 12.3% Monday. Founded in 2013 by two American men, Zoomcar allows customers to rent cars on a monthly, weekly, daily and hourly basis in 99 cities in India. There are more than 25,000 cars and 10 million users, according to its investor website. The data was accessed on June 9, according to the filing on Friday. Zoomcar, which is based in Bangalore, said it became aware of the incident after some employees received external communications from a threat actor alleging unauthorized access to company data. The company then activated its incident response plan. After a preliminary investigation, the company determined that an unauthorized third party accessed a limited dataset containing certain personal information of a subset of approximately 8.4 million users. It included names, phone numbers, car registration numbers, personal addresses and email addresses associated with such users. The company said there is no evidence that financial information, plaintext passwords or other sensitive identifiers were compromised. Zoomcar said it has implemented additional safeguards across the cloud and internal network. This includes increasing system monitoring and reviewing access controls, according to the SEC filing. Also, the company is working with third-party cybersecurity experts to further assist with the investigation. "The company has also notified the appropriate regulatory and law enforcement authorities and is cooperating fully with their inquiries," the SEC said. In February, Zoomcar reported a 19% increase in car rentals in one year to 103,599 bookings. The company had a net loss of $7.9 million. "To date, the incident has not resulted in any material disruption to the company's operations," the company told Tech Crunch. In 2018, Zoomcar had a data breach that exposed records of more than 3.5 million customers. That data was eventually offered for sale on an underground marketplace in 2020, Bleeping Computer reported. In the United States, car-sharing businesses are Zipcar, a subsidiary of Avis Budget Group, and Enterprise CarShare, which is part of Enterprise Rent-A-Car. May U.S. wholesale inflation rose 0.1%; less than expected

Wholesale U.S. inflation measured by the PPI inched up 0.1% in May, according to a Thursday report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. File Photo by Angelina Katsanis/UPI | License Photo June 12 (UPI) -- Wholesale U.S. inflation measured by the PPI inched up 0.1% in May, according to a Thursday report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It shows no inflation surge yet from tariffs and was lower than Wall Street economists forecast. Both May PPI and core PPI excluding food and energy rose 0.1% in May. The BLS said the May PPI increase was "led by prices for final demand services, which advanced 0.1%." "The Producer Price Index for final demand advanced 0.1% in May, seasonally adjusted," the BLS said in a statement. "Final demand prices declined 0.2% in April and 0.1% in March. On an unadjusted basis, the index for final demand rose 2.6% for the 12 months ended in May." Core annual PPI was 2.7%. Increases in PPI services costs drove the small May increase. Both May consumer prices and wholesale prices showed lower than expected inflation. The annual consumer inflation rate in May was 2.4% before seasonal adjustment. Economists and the Federal Reserve both anticipate that trade wars will trigger some inflation, but for now the pressure seems to have eased. It will still take a couple more months of positive inflation data for the Fed to consider resuming interest rate cuts because the full impact of tariffs on both the economy and job market isn'tt yet clear.

(AP Photo/Angelina Katsanis) NEW YORK (AP) — Pete Alonso and Jared Young each hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and the New York Mets beat the Chicago White Sox 6-4 on Tuesday night for their fourth consecutive comeback victory. Tylor Megill (4-4) recovered from a shaky start, allowing two runs in 5 2/3 innings, to help the Mets (34-21) match a season high at 13 games above .500 with their 14th come-from-behind win. Advertisement Miguel Vargas homered and drove in three runs for the White Sox, hitting an RBI double off the top of the left-field fence that nearly tied the score in the seventh. Megill gave up a two-run homer to Vargas in the first, but the Mets sent 10 batters to the plate against Jonathan Cannon (2-6) in the bottom half — even though a zany mixup on the bases cost Juan Soto a hit. Alonso followed with his 11th homer and second in three nights after droughts of 16 games and 65 at-bats that were the longest of his career. Brett Baty singled and Young gave New York a 4-2 lead with his third career homer. Young also doubled to set up Jeff McNeil's sacrifice fly in the third. Advertisement Francisco Lindor added an RBI single in the eighth. Chicago cut it to 5-4 in the seventh on a run-scoring passed ball and Vargas' double before José Castillo struck out rookie Edgar Quero with two runners aboard to end the inning. Reed Garrett got five outs for his second save — both in the past three games. Key moment Megill exited to a warm hand after issuing consecutive walks that loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth. Lenyn Sosa sent José Buttó's first pitch into left-center, where McNeil made a running catch to end the threat. Key stat Young's homer was his first hit for the Mets since getting called up from the minors Saturday — and his first major league home run since September 2023 with the Chicago Cubs. Knicks fans came to MSG for a party. They left trying to convince themselves about Game 6

They all arrived at the Garden looking for a celebration — the type that could last all through the night and weekend — that hadn't happened here since 2000. The Knicks fans that showed up for the watch party chanted 'Knicks in five' with the score tied at halftime, but in the moments after Game 5 ended and they spilled into the streets, 'Knicks in six' served as the updated soundtrack for the New York City night. The Knicks had a chance to eliminate the Celtics and advance to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 years. Boston didn't have superstar Jayson Tatum after he tore his Achilles. But now, after an ugly 127-102 loss that didn't even feel that close by the end of it, the Knicks gave the defending champs some life. And they're about to find out how dangerous that might be. Advertisement 10 Young Knicks fans follow Game 5 on the jumbotron during a watch party at Madison Square Garden. Angelina Katsanis For at least the first half, the watch party — diehards occupied many of the sections as the TNT broadcast played on the jumbotron with in-game contests and dancing on the court during commercial breaks — reflected a scaled-down version of a home playoff game. They roared, louder and louder each time, when Mitchell Robinson made his free throws and the Celtics' hack-a-Mitch strategy backfired. There was a groan when Josh Hart took a Luke Kornet elbow to the eye and was bloodied, and then an even more noticeable roar when he changed his jersey, stayed in the game and sank his free throws.
