By Sophie Laughton Whether it's work dos or big birthday blowouts, summer is synonymous with Organised Adult Fun. Been tasked with organising your own shindig? Give Electric Shuffle a go. Quick, addictive, and dangerously competitive, the digital gameboard has a range of high-tech twists on the original tabletop game, with rounds like Amplifier (where you knock rivals off the board) and Territory (the puck-based answer to Risk). Once you've demonstrated your skills (or lack thereof), move on over to the eclectic bar area for cocktails – Happy Hour is weekdays 3-7pm – and generously-sized sharers, from tasty sourdough pizzas by the paddle to a big bowl of nachos with all the trimmings. (The extra spicy Firecracker waffle fries went down particularly well with the Metro team, especially after a few rounds of tequila-heavy Electric Dreams – woo!) Just in time for summer events, Electric Shuffle is launching its new King's Cross venue with a bang on 6 June, giving away hundreds of free drinks and prizes to early birds. From 5pm, guests can jump on a shuffleboard table to win everything from bar tabs and brunch tickets to shots, merch, and bragging rights. Race you there! Shuffleboard from £11pp for 60 mins. Sharers from £8, house cocktails from £11. Various venues. Book here. Best for: an it-girl dinner kind of salad Salads don't have to be boring. They don't even have to be healthy. Last summer, TikTok declared the ultimate it-girl dinner to be a Caesar salad and fries, and we think no-one is doing elevated comfort food like Bébé Bob. Go for their Schnugget Caesar salad: crispy chicken, bold dressing, and just the right amount of indulgence. Add fries, caviar and sour cream dip, and cocktails created in collaboration with the world's most awarded bartender, Mr Lyan. Schnugget Caesar, £20. 37 Golden Square, Soho, W1F 9LB. Book here. By Beatrice Aidin A Scotsman, a Shetland mussel, and a Padrón pepper walk into a restaurant… and out comes Maresco, the brainchild of Glaswegian Stephan Leroni. Back when he was a music producer in LA (think Hanson and Bon Jovi), Leroni was inspired by an article revealing that the cream of Scotland's seafood was being shipped off to Spain. Back in London, Leroni became an unlikely restauranteur, marrying the best of Caledonian and Catalonian ingredients and cuisine. We kick things off with the famed bomba Maresco, similar to a Scotch Egg but filled with an explosion of mussels. Sea bass ceviche vanishes quickly (I win the last bite), and the fideuà (pictured) – a noodle-based cousin of paella – arrives crowned with dreamlike Hebridean langoustines. We finish with a vast yet light Basque cheesecake and one conclusion: Stephan Leroni is the rock(fish) and roll king of Soho restaurateurs. Small plates from £8. Even tastier: free Dave's Hot Chicken for everyone in the queue. Flash the Dave's Loyalty App to claim yours – and if you get 'I ❤️ D.H.C.' inked, your wings are free for a year. By Courtney Pochin There's no shortage of pizza places in London but Spring Street has quite literally sprung onto the scene and I have no doubt they'll become firm favourites. Founded by chef Tom Kemble, the best thing about Spring Street is that there's no scrimping on toppings. I tried the New Yorker, with San Marzano tomato, fior di latte mozzarella, Rebel Charcuterie pepperoni, Pecorino Romano, hot honey and basil. It was quite possibly the most hot honey anyone has ever drizzled on a pizza, but it managed to hold its own – it was a sweet and spicy delight, with plenty of pepperoni and a beautiful orange tomato sauce. For the best meal here, get a pot of pesto rosso and n'duja to dip your crusts into, order an ice cold teeny martini and finish with the olive oil covered soft serve. You'll be full, but you'll be very happy about it. Pizzas from £12 (12″). Arch 32, Southwark Quarter, Southwark St, London SE1 1TE. Book here. Pub in the Park London is the place to be for foodies from 30 May to 1 June, when Gunnersbury Park will transform into a haven of food, drink, and music. The Slice was at the Marlow edition last weekend and our highlight was Rick Stein's soft shell crab burger – crispy, indulgent, and utterly unforgettable. London's lineup is equally mouthwatering, featuring top gastropubs like The Grazing Goat and The Tamil Prince, live cooking demos from Tom Kerridge and Michel Roux, and music from Soul II Soul and Jack Savoretti. Tickets here. Who's up for a bargain hunt? By John Nathan More Trending In one corner stands Martin Freeman's James, a recovered alcoholic who hasn't touched a drop in 25 years; in the other, Jack Lowden's Luka, a tense newcomer to sobriety. If that sounds like the setup for a boxing match, it's fitting – Finn den Hertog's gripping production of David Ireland's two-hander often feels more like it's unfolding in a ring than on a stage. Freeman plays a married, middle-class English dad with little in common with Lowden's embittered, working-class Scottish loner. And yet, their differences make them perfect foils in this funny, tense exploration of masculinity. Intimate and intense, the production offers audiences a rare chance to witness two star performers – Lowden's raw vulnerability as Luka and Freeman's signature tension that makes every line feel like it's balancing on a knife's edge. Until 26 July. Soho Place. Book tickets here. MORE: The UK's best restaurant has been crowned and it sells 'superb' £10 sandwiches MORE: I tried 50 tinnies and found the best canned drink for summer

Bill Gates to open Gates Foundation office in Singapore

That same focus carried through to the wider PAS programme. This year, the Philanthropy Asia Alliance launched two new Communities of Action: one tackling non-communicable diseases, the other advancing a just energy transition in Asia. The health-focused initiative, Health for Healthy People (HHP), brings together regional partners to address preventable deaths in Southeast Asia, particularly in maternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition (MNCHN), alongside infectious disease. The Gates Foundation is among the founding leads. It's a move that reinforces the Foundation's decision to open an office in Singapore. Alongside partners like the Institute of Philanthropy, Quantedge Advancement Initiative, Tanoto Foundation, and Temasek Foundation, it is helping to shape a coordinated regional approach to healthcare grounded in shared infrastructure, pooled resources, and scalable impact. Director for South & Southeast Asia at the Foundation Hari Menon said: 'As the Gates Foundation marks 25 years of working to advance health and equity around the world, we are reminded that lasting progress is only possible through strong partnerships.' The takeaway was clear: Singapore, and the region around it, isn't just where solutions are being applied but also where they're being built. Amplifier Security secures USD $5.6 million for AI platform

Amplifier Security has raised USD $5.6 million in a seed funding round as it launches new technology to automate user engagement and address security gaps in real time. The Atlanta-based cyber security company reported that the investment was led by TechOperators, with participation from Cota Capital, WestWave Capital, and several security industry veterans including Brian NeSmith, Ash Devata, Shawn Bass, and Kabir Barday. Amplifier Security stated that current security challenges often stem from organisations struggling to identify and directly engage high-risk users. Common tasks such as patching, software removal, correcting misconfigured endpoints, and responding to anomalies can be delayed or overlooked, increasing an organisation's vulnerability to breaches. According to the National Cyber Security Centre, over 50% of breaches are linked to poor user and endpoint security hygiene, a situation made more complex as AI accelerates attack speed and precision. The company has launched two new technologies: the User Security Graph and the AI Automation Studio. These are designed to enable its customers to identify risky user behaviours in real time and automate remediation without disrupting productivity. Amplifier's approach seeks to move away from traditional compliance-focused tools, instead making users active participants in maintaining their organisation's security posture. With the new seed round, Amplifier Security has raised a total of USD $9 million to date. The company says it will use the latest investment to expand its platform and reach more customers. An alliance partnership with Jamf has also been established to further support these ambitions. The User Security Graph maps real-time data across multiple tools—including identity management, endpoint protection, vulnerability management, SIEM, SaaS security, and employee training systems—to create live profiles of each employee's security posture. By leveraging AI, the technology highlights the most vulnerable users, visualises potential attack paths, and identifies where controls are missing. Employees receive personal dashboards to monitor and address their own security risks. The AI Automation Studio allows IT and Security teams to design automation for security workflows using a drag-and-drop interface and natural language prompts. The tool drives user engagement through targeted, contextual conversations, escalating issues to managers or technical teams as necessary, but without building inflexible, multi-branch workflow processes. Shreyas Sadalgi, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer at Amplifier, said: "Amplifier is the system of record for user risk, and the system of action that engages users to reduce it. Our mission is to transform workforce security with a platform loved by employees that helps security and IT teams improve their Net Promoter Score (NPS) to build a positive security culture without all of the toil." Jason Kikta, Chief Information Security Officer of Automox, commented: "What we have is a failure to communicate and inform in a way that meets employees where they are and in their context. Instead we bombard them with training, simulation tests, and instructions that they do not understand or assimilate to meet compliance objectives. Amplifier closes the gap that security tools cannot address - by guiding the right person to take the right action, which helps users understand the 'why' thereby unlocking true engagement and value. Amplifier creates the resilient enterprise we have all been chasing instead of chasing our users." Daniel Ingevaldson, General Partner at TechOperators, said: "We've seen incumbent and new security companies in this space still treat users as passive participants without respecting users' intelligence. Amplifier flips the script, engaging employees to make security intuitive, friendly, and actionable. We're proud to back Shreyas Sadalgi, Tommy Donnelly and the team as they redefine the human risk management category." Brian NeSmith, Co-founder and Chairman of Arctic Wolf, added: "The lack of human engagement in user security automation is a missed opportunity to educate people on the why behind the risk of each security finding and required immediate actions. Because of today's hybrid and dynamic workplaces where everyone is moving fast in the age of AI and hyperproductivity, this problem has become harder to solve at scale. I'm a firm believer in Amplifier's vision of engaging the workforce for security automation – the only modern way to solve today's dynamic cybersecurity threat landscape." Ash Devata, Chief Executive Officer of Greynoise and previous Vice President Product at Duo/Cisco, stated: "Security is fundamentally about both people and technology, yet the industry has largely built security tools focused solely on the technology element. When it comes to cybersecurity actions in workplaces, engaging employees is a big opportunity because they have a lot of business context. I'm a big fan of Amplifier's unique human-in-the-loop approach that engages employees in everyday security workflows - automation that reduces friction for both security practitioners and employees alike" Aditya Singh, Partner at Cota Capital, said: "To decentralize security means shifting ownership out to where risk actually lives, empowering people to take direct action on devices and systems at the edge. To make security autonomous means those actions happen intelligently and automatically, without needing tickets, follow-ups, or top-down enforcement. That's the ethos behind Amplifier: a system where security happens in real time, by design — not by escalation. We're proud to continue supporting the team and their unique vision that is much needed at the intersection of security and AI"

The Power of ‘Two': An Anniversary Playlist

Image Dolly Parton Credit... Charlie Riedel/Associated Press Surprise: There's a birthday party in your inbox! Today we're celebrating two years of The Amplifier, with — what else? — a themed playlist. On March 21, 2023, I sent out the first installment of this newsletter, introducing myself with 11 songs that explain my musical perspective and asking readers to submit some of their own favorite tracks. In the time since, I've sent out nearly 200 playlists, shared thousands of songs and received countless submissions when I've asked Amplifier readers to generate their own soundtracks. The community we've created together is vibrant and reciprocal: I may have discovered as much new music through your recommendations as you have through mine. Today's playlist honors the Amplifier's second birthday with eight tracks that feature the word 'two' in the title. In keeping with The New York Times style guide, I stuck with songs that spell out the word 'two,' so my apologies to Sinead O'Connor's 'Nothing Compares 2 U' and Beyoncé's 'II Hands II Heaven,' among plenty of other greats that didn't make the cut. But you will hear classics from the Beatles, Dolly Parton and Bruce Springsteen, as well as more recent and lesser-known tracks from indie singer-songwriters like Mitski and Flock of Dimes. This anniversary is also ushering in a new chapter for this newsletter. Starting next week, I'll be taking a few months off to finish the manuscript of a book I've been working on. I'll miss making these playlist and corresponding with you all, but I'm incredibly excited to get one step closer to a lifelong goal of publishing my first book. Once I'm back, I'll update you on my progress — and probably share my writing playlist with you, too. While I'm out, I have a wonderful lineup of guest writers who will be sending out their own newsletters and playlists each Tuesday, and I'm thrilled for you to see (and hear) what they have in store. Thanks to each and every one of you who has read this newsletter, sampled our playlists and reached out to give us feedback. As always, happy listening. 10 Songs That Celebrate the Sound of Philadelphia

Image Patti LaBelle Credit... Michael Reynolds/EPA, via Shutterstock Over the weekend, I made a solemn vow to the football gods: If the Eagles won the Super Bowl, then the next Amplifier playlist would be made up entirely of songs by artists from Philadelphia. The football gods upheld their end of this bargain — in case you haven't heard, the Eagles absolutely trounced the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs, 40-22 — so today I will uphold mine with 10 tracks from the City of Brotherly Love (and the brotherly shove). Across all sorts of genres, Philadelphia has a rich musical history and a vibrant musical present. The sound of Philadelphia soul defined the early 1970s (even David Bowie wanted a piece of the action), and its heirs adapted its influence into a neo-soul boom that took off in the late 1990s. Philly has long had a thriving underground music scene, too, as evidenced by its tight-knit indie-rock community and its reputation for eclectic, innovative hip-hop. This playlist is certainly not meant to be definitive. Since I limited myself to just 10 tracks, I tried to avoid the obvious, which is to say you will hear neither 'Motownphilly' nor the 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' theme song. Today's playlist does, however, feature some familiar local luminaries (Patti LaBelle, the Roots) alongside some younger artists (Jazmine Sullivan, Tierra Whack, Alex G) who are updating the sounds of the city for a new generation. I restrained myself from including the Eagles Victory Song, though, so I suppose you will be able to enjoy this playlist even if you are not a fan of the new N.F.L. champs. It definitely hits different if you're wearing your Kelly green, though. So fix yourself a cheese steak (wit or witout), pour yourself a tall glass of wooder and press play. My style fortified by all of Philadel-phi, Lindsay Thank you for your patience while we verify access.
