Swiggy share price gains 5% despite the weak Indian stock market. Do you own it?
Stock Market Today: Swiggy share price gained more than 5% during the intraday trades on Thursday, despite the weak Indian stock market. Do you own it? Swiggy share price remains in focus. Along with other quick commerce service providers, news flows around Amazon's entry into the quick commerce (QC) service space. However Swiggy share price, after seeing some decline during the June 6-13 period, is rebounding well. On Thursday, the Swiggy share price gained more than 5% to intraday highs of ₹ 385 on the BSE, despite range-bound Indian stock markets. The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex oscillated between intraday highs of 81,583.94 and intraday lows of 81,191.04, compared to the previous day's closing price of 81,444.66, till noon. According to media sources, Amazon has officially launched Amazon Now, its rapid commerce (QC) service, following almost six months of piloting it. Despite the fact that the service is presently only available in three Bengaluru pin codes, the news implies that at least seven major competitors would now compete in the QC market, as per the JM Financial Institutional Equities report. "While expanding competition is concerning for early adopters in our coverage (namely Eternal-owned Blinkit and Swiggy-owned Instamart), we reiterate that their medium-term growth ambitions are unlikely to be affected". said JM Financial. This is because the QC market is still growing at an exponential rate as a result of consumer spending shifting channels, opportunities for deeper and newer category penetration, and growth in lower-tier locations, explain JM Financial analysts. JM Financial maintains its BUY rating on Eternal and Swiggy. Jefferies India Pvt. Ltd. says that Amazon has formally launched Q/C (Now) in parts of Bengaluru, a tab in the main app. The competition remains a key monitorable for Eternal & Swiggy even while the game will not be easy for Amazon given its late entry, added Jefferies. 'Specifically, on Amazon, we think these are early days, and the offering needs to have enough scale in terms of coverage to be a meaningful player in the overall Q/C market. This may require serious effort, including a burn, given Amazon lacks brand recall for Q/C unlike incumbents," said Jefferies. Disclaimer: This story is for educational purposes only. Masterstroke by Amazon as company officially enters quick commerce race with…, Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy Instamart plan to…
New Delhi: In a major development, e-commerce giant Amazon has launched its Amazon Now service in three pin codes of Bengaluru. Amazon Now, which is the company's official entry into the ultra-fast delivery segment, will now compete with rivals Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy Instamart which already dominate the market. According to a Moneycontrol report, the launch follows a pilot that began in December 2024 and indicates the company's intention to regain market share, as Indian consumers increasingly move from traditional 1–2 day deliveries to rapid 10–30 minute deliveries for daily essentials and groceries. The American e-commerce giant is likely to expand the service to other places in Bengaluru in coming weeks before scaling it to other cities. It is important to note that Amazon NOW's entry comes at a time when quick commerce platforms are not only witnessing quick adoption but are also starting to capture the share of legacy e-commerce players like Flipkart and Amazon itself. According to a recent report by Flipkart and Bain & Company, over two-thirds of online grocery orders and about 10 percent of overall e-retail spending in 2024 occurred on quick commerce platforms. To recall, Eternal (formerly Zomato) founder Deepinder Goyal earlier had said that the quick commerce firms were burning over Rs 5,000 crore each quarter—with Zepto alone accounting for more than half of that. Industry leaders have already been bracing for a more competitive phase. 'Our view is that competition is going to intensify further from here in the near term…We will aggressively look to grow our market share, especially in the face of heightened competition, and will not let any short-term profitability goals come in the way of that,' Eternal CFO Akshant Goyal said in a letter to shareholders following its Q4FY25 results.

Amazon enters quick commerce race with ‘Now' service in Bengaluru, targets rapid expansion: Report
Amazon has officially stepped into the ultra-fast delivery space with the launch of its quick commerce platform, Amazon Now, in select parts of Bengaluru, reported Moneycontrol. The service is currently live in three pin codes, marking the tech giant's formal entry into a sector dominated by Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy Instamart. Also Read - 'For every ₹1 we give, Karnataka gets only ₹0.15 back': Siddaramaiah seeks ₹1.15 lakh crore for Bengaluru The rollout follows a pilot project that began in December 2024 and reflects Amazon's growing focus on tapping into India's evolving demand for near-instant delivery of groceries and daily-use items. Unlike traditional e-commerce models that promise one to two-day shipping, quick commerce caters to consumers looking for deliveries within 10 to 30 minutes. Amazon is also reportedly planning to broaden its footprint across more Bengaluru neighbourhoods in the coming weeks, before taking the service to other major cities across India. The move is seen as a strategic effort to regain ground in a segment where Amazon has gradually lost market share to nimble quick commerce rivals. Also Read - Bengaluru climbs to 14th spot in Global Startup Ecosystem Rankings 2025 Quick commerce is no longer a niche — it's fast becoming the preferred choice for urban consumers. A joint report by Flipkart and Bain & Company revealed that in 2024, quick commerce platforms accounted for over 66% of online grocery purchases and about 10% of total e-commerce spending in India. This rapid adoption is beginning to eat into the business of legacy players like Amazon and Flipkart, who traditionally relied on slower but broader delivery models. Amazon's launch of Now is a clear signal that it is ready to compete head-on with platforms that are reshaping how Indians shop for everyday needs. The choice of Bengaluru for Amazon Now's debut is no coincidence. The city has become the testing ground for most quick commerce players, thanks to its dense urban layout, tech-savvy population, high smartphone penetration, and willingness to adopt new consumer trends early. With a strong base of working professionals and a culture of convenience-first consumption, Bengaluru offers the ideal conditions for ultra-fast delivery services to scale.

Amazon goes live with quick commerce service Now in Bengaluru
Amazon has launched its quick commerce service , Amazon Now , across three pin codes in Bengaluru , marking its formal entry into India's rapidly growing 10-15 minute delivery market. The service is currently in beta mode and is available to select users, according to details on the Amazon app and people aware of the development. The ecommerce giant has set up 10-15 dark stores to support deliveries in the city and plans to expand its footprint in the coming weeks, sources said. The launch comes after multiple internal pilots. In response to ET's query. A spokesperson for Amazon said, "Through Amazon Now, we are offering a curated selection of everyday essentials... We will expand the service over the next few months." Amazon's move into quick commerce comes as the segment has seen aggressive growth led by players like Eternal-owned Blinkit , Swiggy's Instamart , Zepto , Tata Digital-backed BigBasket, Flipkart Minutes, and Reliance's JioMart. With Amazon Now, the company will directly compete with these established players. The Amazon Now service is currently offering groceries, vegetables, beauty and personal care, home care, snacks and beverages, meat, among others. Like its competitors in the segment, Amazon Now is already offering discounts and offers. The platform is also waiving off handing surge fee and late-night charges, according to the information available on the app. ET had first reported on Amazon's plan for quick commerce operations in August of 2024. At the time, Amazon had begun laying the groundwork for its quick commerce foray, appointing category leader Nishant Sardana to spearhead the initiative. Subsequently, ET reported that the company was building out its dark store network and targeting an initial launch by late 2024 or early 2025, operating under the internal codename Tez. ET had also reported about Amazon Now's plans to have 300 dark stores in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru by end-2025. Ecommerce enters quick delivery In December, Amazon's senior vice president Amit Agarwal confirmed to ET that the retailer was planning to launch quick commerce here, making India one of the first markets where Amazon would test such a delivery model. 'Our goal remains the same, which is that we want to offer the largest selection of products to the largest customer base at the fastest speeds...,' Agarwal had said. While incumbent quick commerce players have noted their service eating into the share of horizontal ecommerce platforms like Amazon, Agarwal downplayed the impact. 'There is a physics to how much you can deploy closer to customers…but here we're talking about the consumption of a few thousand products. It would be stretching the facts on how things are changing,' he said. Amazon is entering the segment as its rival in ecommerce, Flipkart, is aggressively scaling its quick commerce services. By the end of this year, Flipkart Minutes plans to have 800 dark stores across the country. This has happened as the broader ecommerce segment has undergone a protracted slump. In 2024, growth in India's retail market slowed down to 10-12% from over 20% in the previous years, as per a Bain & Company and Flipkart report.
