UAE, Serbian Presidents discuss strengthening bilateral ties
UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Excellency Aleksandar Vučić, President of the Republic of Serbia, met today in Abu Dhabi to explore ways to further strengthen bilateral ties. His Highness welcomed President Vučić – who is on a working visit to the UAE – at Qasr Al Watan, expressing his hope that the visit would help advance the ongoing development of relations between the two countries. The two leaders reviewed various aspects of UAE-Serbia cooperation and discussed opportunities for further collaboration, particularly in the fields of the economy, investment, development, renewable energy, food security, and other key sectors that contribute to accelerating growth and prosperity in both nations. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and the Serbian President also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern, particularly the latest developments in the Middle East. In this context, they emphasised the importance of intensifying efforts to restore security and stability in the region, promote dialogue and diplomatic solutions, and support peace, stability and development at both regional and global levels. At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening UAE–Serbia relations and building sustainable economic partnerships that support development priorities and meet the aspirations of both nations and their peoples. This aligns with the objectives of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, which came into effect in May 2025 and seeks to boost trade volumes and foster economic growth in both countries. The meeting was attended by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs; Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Advisor to the UAE President; Ali bin Hammad Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for National Security; Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State; Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the President's Office for Strategic Affairs and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office; Ahmed Al Menhali, UAE Ambassador to Serbia; Mohamed Alabbar, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Eagle Hills Abu Dhabi, along with the delegation accompanying the Serbian President. The President of Serbia arrived in the UAE last night for a working visit.

Serbia responds to accusations of ‘betraying' Russia
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has rejected claims that his recent visit to Ukraine constituted a betrayal of Belgrade's friendly ties with Russia. Vucic attended the Ukraine–Southeast Europe Summit in Odessa on Wednesday, where he met with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky. According to Reuters, it was his first trip to Ukraine in his 12 years in office. 'Who did I betray? Russia? With what, exactly?' Vucic asked, responding to a reporter's question. He noted that he had refused to sign the summit's final declaration, which condemned Russia and expressed support for Ukraine's NATO aspirations. 'This was my fourth Ukraine–Southeast Europe Summit, and once again, I was the only one who refused to endorse the declaration,' he said. Vucic emphasized that Serbia seeks to maintain good relations with both Ukraine and Russia. 'I am proud of Serbia's policy and our independence, and that will not change.'Serbia remains one of the few European countries that has declined to impose sanctions on Russia or openly side with Ukraine in the ongoing conflict. Vucic has previously stated that the EU pressured Belgrade to abandon its neutral stance and sever ties with Moscow. Late last month, Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) accused several major Serbian defense firms – including the state-owned Yugoimport-SDPR – of covertly supplying ammunition to Ukraine through third countries, using falsified end-user certificates. Vucic denied the accusations and vowed that Serbia would not allow any circumvention of end-user requirements in weapons contracts.

During his visit to Ukraine on June 11, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said his country is ready to help rebuild one or two Ukrainian cities or regions. Speaking at the Ukraine–Southeast Europe Summit in Odesa, Vucic said Serbia wants to go beyond political declarations and provide practical assistance to Ukraine. "I would like to take one or two cities or regions that we could rebuild. I think that would be very clear and noticeable to the Ukrainian people," he said. "We are ready to listen to you and see how we can help you." Vucic also reaffirmed Serbia's commitment to international law and the UN Charter, saying that this includes supporting the territorial integrity of states — a message the president described as important for Kyiv. "Ukraine can always count on Serbia's humanitarian and political support for its territorial integrity," he said. "We could be supportive in efforts to achieve a ceasefire." Vucic was one of the few European leaders to attend Russia's Victory Day celebrations in Moscow on May 9 — a move that drew criticism from EU officials. Serbian president also told reporters that he did not sign the declaration of the Odesa summit, adding that by doing so, he "did not betray Russia." Tensions between Belgrade and Moscow have risen in recent months after Russia's intelligence services accused Serbian defense firms on May 29 of indirectly supplying weapons to Ukraine.
