'Won't Betray Russia': Vucic Defends Neutral Stance, Rejects Arms Supply To Ukraine

Time of India12-06-2025

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has firmly rejected accusations that his recent visit to Ukraine marked a betrayal of Serbia's longstanding friendship with Russia. During the Ukraine–Southeast Europe Summit in Odessa, Vucic met with President Zelensky but refused to sign the final declaration condemning Russia and supporting Ukraine's NATO bid. He emphasized Serbia's commitment to neutrality and independent diplomacy, noting that he was the only leader at the summit to withhold endorsement. #aleksandarvucic #SerbiaRussia #UkraineSummit #geopolitics #SerbiaNeutral #ukraineconflict #ZelenskyVucic #BalkanDiplomacy

China makes big move silently, set to affect many countries due to...

China makes big move silently, set to affect many countries due to... New Delhi: Amid global tensions, where countries are being impacted by the Russia-Ukraine war and the recent Iran-Israel conflict, China has made a move that has impacted several countries around the world. The Dragon has stopped the export of rare earth magnets, and due to this, countries across the world, including India and the United States, have been affected. These magnets are used in many sectors, including automotive and electronics. In India, the production of electric vehicles has come to a standstill, as China stopped supplying rare earth magnets as early as April. China Dominates The Supply Of Rare Earth Magnets China is a major supplier of rare earth magnets. According to the US Geological Survey, Beijing has tripled its production since 2014. Last year, the neighbouring country produced 270,000 metric tons of rare earth magnets, accounting for 69 percent of global production. In comparison, the US produced 45,000 tons, and Myanmar produced 31,000 tons. Notably, the US's share in global production is 11 percent, and Myanmar's share is 8 percent. Apart from China, US and Myanmar, rare earth production also takes place in countries like – Nigeria, Australia and Thailand. As per IEA data, China has 90 percent of the world's total refining capacity. It simply means that Beijing has most of the ecosystem for converting rare earth magnets into usable material. This is the reason why the world needs China for this material. Impact In India Disruptions to China's rare earth magnet supply pose a significant threat to India's automotive and electronics sectors, particularly smartwatch and wireless earbud production. With only a few months of existing stock, continued supply chain interruptions from China will severely impact manufacturing. This issue is not limited to India and the United States; several European nations face similar challenges. China's Move China had stopped the export of seven rare earth metals in early April. However, it is not a sudden move by the Dragon, it had been showing strictness on the export of critical minerals for the past two years. Beijing is using these minerals as a strategic bargaining chip in the tariff-related talks with the United States. In the agreement reached between the countries in Geneva, there was also talk of restoring the export of rare earth. However, China is taking its steps cautiously in this matter.

Wars, a missing UN Countries in West Asia seem to be burning one after the other, leading to a million dollar question. Where is the United Nations? What is it doing? What was an Israel-Palestine issue has now become an Israel-Iran issue. It almost appears as if the United Nations, the Security Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency have delegated authority to Israel to prevent the nuclear programme of Iran and wage war against it. The dangers of the wars spreading and disrupting life across the globe seem to have been lost on these agencies. The UN seems to have become a modern-day Nero. In the 'new world order', there seems to be no role for peace. E.V. Tulasi Rao, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh Now that Israel's Defence Minister Israel Katz has openly said that Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei can no longer be allowed to exist, Iran could take this to be a serious challenge and attack Israel with all its mighty force. Israel does not seem to want the wars to an end. The bombarding of the Gaza strip, causing total destruction, seems to point to its aim of wanting to form a Jewish state. It is the primary duty of the UN to intervene and try to bring about a negotiation between all the warring nations. Parthasarathy N., Chennai There seems to be no end to conflict — the Russia-Ukraine war, the Hamas attack on Israel and the retaliation by Israel, and now, the Israel-Iran war. The effect of these wars has severely affected trade and crude prices, thus affecting the economy of many countries. What is surprising is the inability of the UN to intervene. The UN may end up losing its very identity. M.R.G. Murthy, Mysuru Evacuation, optimism Amid the very distressing news from West Asia is a gladdening report — the successful evacuation of Indian students from the war zones (Inside pages, '110 students from war-torn Iran land in New Delhi, via Armenia', June 20). What caught my eye was that many of the students were Kashmiri students, and were waving the tricolour on reaching New Delhi. This raises optimism that at long last, the disenchanted youth of Kashmir are now taking a step closer to endearing themselves to the Indian Republic. Nalini Vijayaraghavan, Thiruvananthapuram No to intolerance The Supreme Court of India's firm stand reaffirming the rights of film-makers and theatre owners, as seen in its direction to the Karnataka government to ensure the screening of Thug Life, is both timely and commendable. In a democracy, artistic freedom must not be held hostage by threats of violence or mob pressure. By underlining the state's duty to protect lawful expression, the Court has not only defended cinema but also upheld the rule of law. Such judgments strengthen the spine of free speech and remind us that intolerance must never dictate what the public can or cannot watch. K. Chidanand Kumar, Bengaluru

Russia's Warning – The Third World War has started Russian Army's top general, Alaudinov, has said that the conflict between Israel and Iran can now be the beginning of the Third World War. He has alerted the army and given a message to 10 lakh soldiers to be ready for war. Notably, the statement has come at a time when there are already tensions between Russia and Western countries, due to the ongoing Ukraine war. China, on the other hand, is also keeping a close eye on the regional crisis. According to experts, if the situation escalates further and is not controlled, then China and North Korea can also jump in support of Russia and Iran. Where Can World War III Break Out? Looking at the current circumstances, it is believed that if World War III happens, it can start from Western Asia. America, Israel. European countries will be on one side, while Russia, China, North Korea and some Arab countries will be on the other side. According to experts, the war can start with an attack on strategic and nuclear bases. Iran and Israel will be at the center of this conflict. But soon US, Russia, and China may also join it. NATO can also join America's sidke in this conflict. These Countries Will Be Attacked First Countries like Israel, Iran, Ukraine, South Korea, Japan and Taiwan can be targeted due to their geographical location, military role and political alliances. These Countries Will Be The Safest? Amidst every war, some countries are considered relatively safe due to their neutrality and peaceful policies. As per experts, if World War III happens, then countries like Switzerland, New Zealand, Canada, Iceland, Sweden, Finland and Bhutan can remain safe.
