Bokaro to celebrate Plantation Week from July 7-15
Bokaro district will celebrate 'Plantation Week' from July 7 to 15, with a target of planting 18 lakh saplings. Take up urgent repair, maintenance of Garga dam: DC to BSL officials
Bokaro: The district administration has asked the management of Bokaro Steel Limited (BSL) to take up urgent repairs of Garga Dam a day after deputy commissioner (DC) Ajay Nath Jha found serious structural damages in the reservoir during an inspection on Thursday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Jha's letter, which followed a meeting of the district disaster management authority (DDMA) on Friday, directed the PSU to take up urgent repairs after a portion of the dam was found to be collapsed and a few radial gates were out of order. Jha, during his inspection, also noted that the equipment used for measuring water levels were not working properly. The inspection came after a bout of heavy rain which battered Jharkhand and led to a rise of water levels in the reservoir, which is built over Garga, a tributary of Damodar, and provides water to the BSL plant and its township 12 kilometres away. "Given the possibility of further heavy rainfall, the current condition is a recipe for disaster," a senior district official said, requesting anonymity. Jha's letter, officials said, invoked various provisions of the Disaster Management Act of 2005. "A committee will be formed by BSL to oversee all necessary repair and safety actions within one week," said DC. The district administration has directed that any rise in water levels to dangerous thresholds must be immediately communicated to local administrative authorities. Acting on the direction, BSL has now begun making public announcements in all low-lying areas of Garga river. BSL's chief of communication, Manikant Dhan, said, "We have started alerting people by making announcements to those living in low lying areas of Garga river." Bokaro: Deputy commissioner Ajay Nath Jha, who visited the site for Bokaro airport project on Tuesday to assess its progress, held meetings with officials from the Airport Authority of India (AAI), Bokaro Steel Limited (BSL), and key administrative departments and asked the officials concerned to address the bottlenecks and expedite the remaining tasks. Locals are eagerly waiting for operations to begin, but the timeline for completion remains uncertain due to repeated setbacks. Speaking after the inspection, the DC said, "Starting commercial flight services from Bokaro is a top priority for both the state govt and the district administration. Clear instructions have been issued to eliminate all existing hurdles before the upcoming Kartik Purnima (Nov), setting it as the target for the airport's launch." During the review meeting held on the airport premises, the DC issued a series of critical directives to fast-track the remaining works and ensure the timely launch of commercial flight services. He emphasised the immediate construction of a watchtower to bolster airport security and instructed that it be completed within a fixed time frame. BSL management was asked to identify suitable land for the relocation, while SDO Chas was tasked with overseeing the implementation. The DC also stressed the need for regular maintenance of the airport premises, including pruning of bushes and upkeep of green areas to ensure a clean and obstruction-free environment. Additionally, departments were instructed to expedite completion of essential infrastructure works such as drainage systems, internal roads, barrier systems, and the construction of a protective wall, all in accordance with quality standards and deadlines.

Spl court takes up land dispute cases in Bokaro
Bokaro: Land dispute cases are now being heard by a mobile court in the district. With more than 1,200 transfer appeal cases from Chas and Chandankiyari circles pending in his court, deputy collector land reforms (DCLR) Prabhash Dutta has obtained a special permission from deputy commissioner Ajay Nath Jha to conduct mobile court camps in Circle offices. This unique initiative aims to speed up the resolution of disputes process and ensures that justice is not denied due to absence or lack of information. "Special court camps are scheduled from June 13 to 18. Chas circle office (CO) is hosting hearings on June 13, 14, and 16, while Chandankiyari CO office will hold sessions on June 17 and 18. The first mobile court was held at the Chas CO where the appeal of one Shyamali Dubey from Bokaro Steel City was heard. Many other complainants were also present, marking a strong turnout," said Dutta. The DCLR explained that many appellants remain unaware of the hearing location and often visit older offices, resulting in no-shows. "If the public can't reach the court, then we as a quasi-judicial court reached the public," he said. Those who remain absent during these mobile hearings will face unilateral decisions. Notices have been posted in govt offices and panchayats to inform citizens. "Many raiyats (landholders) participated in the court camps. Under this initiative, roadsides will be cleaned, welcome arches will be installed, and a park and a selfie point will be built near the BSL memorial.
