Abhishek Banerjee Knew Siddhant Chaturvedi Had A Spark Even Before Gully Boy
Last Updated: Abhishek Banerjee noted that Siddhant Chaturvedi embodies a new generation of Bollywood actors who blend style with depth and aren't afraid to take bold creative risks. Abhishek Banerjee, known for his compelling performances and experience as a casting director, recently shared his thoughts on rising talent in the entertainment industry. Speaking fondly of Siddhant Chaturvedi, Banerjee described him as a standout performer, someone he considers a rare find with the potential to leave a lasting mark in the industry. In conversation with Raj Shamani, Abhishek Banerjee said, 'Siddhant Chaturvedi is my rarest find. I'll take his name because he has given very important performances. We cast him in Inside Edge as the character of a Dalit bowler — and that choice is deliberate and important to highlight." Expressing his admiration further for Chaturvedi, Banerjee said, 'The first time I saw him, I knew there is something remarkable about this man. Siddhant who is a hero today, and imagined in all different stylish, glamorous roles — we had envisioned him as a lower-caste sportsman, someone who was oppressed and bullied." Banerjee added that Siddhant Chaturvedi represents a refreshing new wave in Bollywood — performers who blend style with substance and aren't afraid to push creative boundaries. He recalled first casting Chaturvedi in a Coca-Cola commercial, followed by a role in Inside Edge, before the actor went on to earn widespread acclaim for his breakout performance in Gully Boy. This endorsement only fuels the excitement surrounding Chaturvedi, whose upcoming projects are already generating buzz. He is set to star in Dhadak 2 opposite Triptii Dimri, and will also appear alongside Jaya Bachchan and Wamiqa Gabbi in the comedy Dil Ka Darwaaza Khol Na Darling. Meanwhile, Abhishek Banerjee continues to make his own mark in cinema, best known for his role in the Stree franchise. His recent film Stolen has earned global attention, breaking into the top 10 trending films on Prime Video in both India and the United States. First Published:

'Blow to BJP's politics of revenge': TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee on Court's directive on MGNREGA
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], June 18 (ANI): TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee said on Wednesday that the Calcutta High Court's order today to restart MGNREGA in Bengal is a 'blow to the BJP's politics of revenge' and said that the Court's directive today is a 'step' toward restoring justice. In a post on X, Banerjee said on Wednesday, 'The Calcutta High Court's order today to restart MGNREGA in Bengal is a blow to the BJP's politics of revenge. Unable to accept the people's mandate in 2021, the BANGLA BIRODHI BJP froze MGNREGA funds and choked off rural employment. This wasn't governance - It was revenge and retribution. The Court's directive today to resume the scheme from August 1, 2025 is a step toward restoring justice. 'We welcome it. We made a promise to the people of Bengal - that we would fight for their rights with every ounce of strength in our bodies and we reaffirm our commitment to fight for Bengal against the ZAMINDARS in every forum, at every level' The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday directed the Centre to resume disbursal of MGNREGA funds in West Bengal from August 1, while allowing the Union government to set necessary safeguards to prevent corruption. The matter will come up for further hearing after August 15. Between 2022-23 and 2025-26, Bengal was supposed to receive allocations. From 2016 to the next six years, West Bengal was allocated 50,593 crore under the 100 Days Work Scheme (MGNREGA). Allegations of irregularities surfaced in works amounting to only 9.20 crore, against which action was also taken. All related documents and records have been submitted to the Ministry of Rural Development. The court highlighted that the 100-day work scheme is a long-term, centrally funded project where money is directly transferred to workers' bank accounts. It stressed the importance of resuming the scheme in the public interest A division bench led by Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam observed that while instances of fund misuse had been proven in four districts, the suspension of the entire scheme for three years was unjustifiable. BJP leader Amit Malviya welcomed the HC Verdict calling it a huge blow to the Mamata Banerjee government. 'In a landmark ruling, the Calcutta High Court has ordered that the MGNREGA scheme in West Bengal must restart from 1st August 2025 -- a huge blow to the Mamata Banerjee government and a massive win in the fight against corruption. Here's what the verdict means: The scheme cannot be kept in abeyance indefinitely just because the State misused it. Control will now rest with the Central Government for strict monitoring -- Mamata Banerjee will no longer be able to loot. No retrospective payments -- only genuine beneficiaries will receive fresh entitlements. All recovered money from the scam will go to the Consolidated Fund of India, not to TMC's coffers. Since the Act itself hasn't been scrapped, the benefits must reach the poor -- and the Court has ensured that they will. This is a tight slap on TMC's corruption-ridden governance. The poor of Bengal will now get what is rightfully theirs. But make no mistake -- Mamata Banerjee will do everything to stall its implementation... because she cannot tolerate a system she cannot manipulate,' he posted on X. The Trinamool Congress also welcomed the verdict claiming that it vindicates the party's stand. 'The Calcutta High Court has directed the Centre to resume MGNREGA in Bengal from August 1, a clear acknowledgment of the injustice faced by 59 lakh job card holders. Under the leadership of Smt. Mamata Banerjee and Shri Abhishek Banerjee. We fought relentlessly against this discrimination. Today's verdict vindicates our stand, and marks a crucial victory for Bengal's people,' the TMC posted on X. (ANI)

‘He praised govt abroad': After Abhishek Banerjee's criticism, members in his delegation question ‘U-turn'
Reacting to Abhishek Banerjee's recent statements questioning the effectiveness of the multi-party delegations that visited different countries to explain India's position on cross-border terrorism, Janata Dal (United) working president and MP Sanjay Jha on Tuesday said the Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP had praised Operation Sindoor in all the five countries that the delegation visited. Jha led the delegation that visited Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. 'He went to all these places, and in all the five places he praised the government on Operation Sindoor,' Jha told The Indian Express, expressing surprise over Banerjee's statement. Jha also said Banerjee had spoken about the rationale behind keeping the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance. The delegation also had former ambassador Mohan Kumar; former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid; BJP MPs Brij Lal, Aparajita Sarangi, Pradan Baruah and Hemang Joshi; and CPI(M) MP John Brittas. A member of the delegation who did not wish to be named also questioned the TMC second-in-command's U-turn. 'Hamare saath the toh dhuaandaar desh ki taareef ki (When he was with us, he showered praises on the country),' said the MP. Khurshid told The Indian Express that he doesn't think it is 'necessary or wise for the delegates to say anything'. 'My view has been that our parties had some agreement to send us abroad on a common issue. When we were abroad, we didn't have any problem in sharing a common point of view, which was essentially about India's response to a terror attack. Beyond that, there are, obviously, ideological and political differences of leadership here at home. Therefore, it might be that in conversations and speeches that will get reflected,' Khurshid said. 'I don't think it is necessary or wise for us to say anything. I am speaking for myself. This is the reason I didn't give interviews before or after meeting the Prime Minister. I thought it was part of the exercise we were mandated to do with the approval and participation of our parties. This is without commenting on what anyone may have said,' he added. On Monday, less than a week after Prime Minister Narendra Modi met all the delegations, Abhishek Banerjee wrote on X: 'After reaching out to 33 countries post-Pahalgam in the last one month, how many extended explicit support to India?' He sought to know how Pakistan got IMF and World Bank loans despite the attack, and how the country was appointed vice-chair of the UN Security Council's counter-terror committee barely a month after the attack. Banerjee sought accountability for the massive breach in national security after 55 days of the Pahalgam attack, wondering why the Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief was given a one-year extension after the intelligence failure, and asked whether the four terrorists who carried out the Pahalgam attack were dead or alive. He also sought to know when India would reclaim Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. Following Abhishek Banerjee's post on X, TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien released a video supporting him. 'Someone needed to call this government out. Someone needed to hold this government accountable. Someone needed to ask five direct questions,' he said, adding that the government's silence on these critical issues was unacceptable.
