25,000 tribal students perform Surya Namaskaram

Visakhapatnam: IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh announced that the State government has already decided to organise yoga once a week in all schools after June 21 and will implement it. Speaking on the occasion of 25,000 students performing Surya Namaskaram at the Andhra University Engineering College Grounds on Friday to achieve a record, Lokesh said that it's one of the proud moments. Lokesh mentioned that the entire country and world is looking towards Visakhapatnam which is hosting the record-breaking event in the world of history. As many as 25,000 tribal students of Alluri Sitarama Raju district performed Surya Namaskaram in 15 minutes, creating a Guinness World Record. The Minister stated that he was surprised to see the commitment and perseverance of the tribal students. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give him an opportunity to organise International Yoga Day in Visakhapatnam so that it would be done in a historical manner, the Minister said. Lokesh informed that 5 lakh people would participate in 'Yogandhra-2025' and create a Guinness World Record. 'Yoga is not just about Asanas but is a way of life. It teaches discipline to all of us. When I was of your age, Nara Chandrababu Naidu used to do yoga with me,' the Education Minister recalled, addressing the students. Further, he congratulated ASR District Collector Dinesh Kumar for making the students practice yoga meticulously for the past one year. 'The Prime Minister loves Andhra Pradesh and Visakhapatnam very much. He is coming to the city for the second time in a year. Achieving Guinness Book of World Records through largest participation in yoga is a gift to be presented to the Prime Minister,' Lokesh said. Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister of State for Ayush Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav mentioned that tribal students who grew up in the forests of Andhra Pradesh have created a record with great effort and coordination. He said that if children in urban areas were asked to do 10 Surya Namaskar for 10 minutes, 9 of them would fail. He attributed the lack of physical exercise, eating habits and mobile addiction to this. He hoped that these students would set more records in future. Among others Tribal Affairs Minister Gummadi Sandhya Rani, Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav and MP CM Ramesh participated.

VISAKHAPATNAM / RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM: Three Maoists were killed in an exchange of fire with police in the Kintukuru forest area under Rampachodavaram Police Station limits in Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district on Wednesday. ASR SP Amit Bardar, addressing a press meet in Vizag, stated that the operation was launched based on credible intelligence about the movement of CPI (Maoist) cadres. Around 7 am on June 18, during a combing operation by the district police, Maoists opened fire on the personnel. The police retaliated in self-defence, resulting in the death of three Maoists—two women and one man. The deceased were Gajarla Ravi alias Uday alias Ganesh, a Central Committee Member (CCM) of CPI (Maoist), who had over 150 criminal cases and carried a reward of Rs 25 lakh; Venkata Ravi Chaithanya alias Aruna alias Ruppi, a Special Zonal Committee Member (SZCM) with over 150 cases and a reward of Rs 20 lakh; and Anju alias Mase (PM), with 22 cases and a Rs 1 lakh reward. Police recovered AK-47 rifles, ammunition, kit bags, cash, Maoist literature, and clothing. A case was registered. Relatives seek hand over of Maoists' bodies Relatives of the slain Maoists gathered at Rampachodavaram Government Hospital on Thursday to claim the bodies, which were brought under tight security the previous night. Bodies of three Maoists will be handed over to kin after legal process, say police

The bodies of the three Maoists who were killed in an exchange of fire would be handed over to their family members after following the legal process, Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district Superintendent of Police Amit Bardar said on Thursday. Addressing the media here, Mr. Bardar said the family members of the three Maoists, upon being informed, arrived at Rampachodavaram to receive the bodies. 'The legal process to hand over the bodies is going on. We will hand over the bodies respectfully once the process is completed,' Mr. Bardar said. The Superintendent of Police was responding to the allegations levelled by the family members of slain Maoist Venkata Raavi Chaitanya, alias Aruna, alias Ruppi, that the police had not informed them about the death of Aruna and they were not allowed to see the body. Referring to the encounter, Mr. Bardar said they had information about the movement of the Maoists in the Rampachodavaram area on June 17, following which combing operation was initiated. 'On June 18, between 7 a.m. and 7.15 a.m., an exchange fire had taken place in the Kintukuru forest area under Rampachodavaram police station limits. After the encounter, we found the bodies of three Maoists, two of them women. We recovered three AK 47 rifles, magazines, kit bags and Maoist literature from the place,' Mr. Bardar said. Apart from Aruna, the other Maoists were identified as Gajarla Ravi, alias Uday, alias Ganesh, a central committee member carrying ₹25 lakh reward on his head, and Anju, alias Mase, who carried a reward of ₹1 lakh. 'Uday and Aruna were involved in more than 150 criminal cases, including the killing of an MLA and former MLA in 2018 and IED blasts,' Mr. Bardar said. The Superintendent of Police said they had information that about 30 Maoists had entered Andhra Pradesh via Odisha from Chhattisgarh after the announcement of Operation Kagar in November 2024. 'After the first exchange of fire in April and surrenders, there may be five to six members still moving in the AOB region. The operation is still on,' he said.

State ST panel seeks report on tribal kids' school access woes

1 2 3 Visakhapatnam: Days after TOI highlighted the ordeal of tribal children from Solubongu hamlet in Ananthagiri mandal — who either walk several kilometres or cross the Raiwada dam by boat to attend school — the State Scheduled Tribes Commission has intervened, directing ASR district officials to submit a detailed report. When the schools reopened on June 12, tribal children from Solubongu travelled by boat to the school located in Tamarrabba, Devarapalli mandal. The ASR district collector has directed Venu Gopal, executive engineer of the tribal welfare department, to prepare a proposal for a 2-kilometre road from Veerabhadrapeta to Solubongu village via Boddugaruvu and Tamarrabba. Elders from the hamlet, Nandula Rajarao and R Rajarao, thanked to ST commission chairman DVG Sankara Rao for taking up the issue. They said students from the remote area attend the MPP School in Tamarrabba travelling via the Raiwada dam. "When there is heavy rainfall, the students are forced to stay at home, as there is no safe way for them to attend school. When the water level in Raiwada dam recedes, they travel to school by boat. But when the water is high, they hike four kilometres around the hill. We demand that a special school be established in our village," they said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo CPM leader K Govinda Rao added that 21 more tribal children from villages such as Kadarevu and Goppala Palem walk 12 kilometres daily, crossing steep hills, to reach Bodugaruvu for their schooling. "In July 2024, villagers held a protest demanding a school, after which the Ananthagiri mandal education officer visited and promised to establish an alternative school. A proposal was submitted to the district collector and the district education officer of ASR district to set up a non-residential special training (NRST) school, but the government did not approve it," he said.
