Soccer Aid, which has been running for more than two decades and has raised more than £100 million overall, had Sam Matterface as the commentator, with Iain Stirling joining him Soccer Aid 2025 fans were divided as they pointed out what happens every time One Direction star Louis Tomlinson has the ball. The singer joined a slew of famous faces on the pitch but the audience seemed to have their focus on the star as they screamed and cheered every single time he was passed the ball. Fans noticed how much louder the stadium got when he had the ball and took to social media to share their divided opinions on the cheering. One fan said on X: "Take that 1D kid off people screaming for him is becoming annoying and making this match unwatchable," while another person more kindly said: "I love the applause that so louder when Louis has the ball." "That constant screaming for Louis Tomlinson is already annoying af. I think a wave go around and that's saying something," one viewer commented. Another posted: "You can tell when Louis has the ball as the crowd go absolutely wild," with a laughing emoji. "The audible squeal with Louis Tomlinson gets the ball is hilarious! These girls have never watched a full 90 minutes!" However, one disgruntled football fan said: "do these one direction fans have to scream every time louis touches the ball ffs." The event, which has been running for more than two decades and has raised more than £100million overall, had Sam Matterface as the commentator with Iain Stirling joining him. England's coaching team include the likes of Tyson Fury (Boxer), Harry Redknapp (Former football manager), Vicky McClure (Actor), David James (Former footballer) and Sam Thompson. Former Made In Chelsea star Sam was meant to be on the pitch with the rest of the team but had to step aside after sustaining an calf injury during his gruelling 280-mile charity mission from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford. Meanwhile, the players include the likes of Steve Bartlett, Alex Brooker, Jermain Defoe, Toni Duggan, Sir Mo Farah, Angry Ginge, Tom Grennan, Joe Hart, Steph Houghton, Aaron Lennon, Dame Denise Lewis, Paddy McGuinness, Gary Neville, Sam Quek, Wayne Rooney, Paul Scoles, Jill Scott and Louis Tomlinson. The World XI team, which is coached by Peter Schmeichel, has a few big names with the likes of Noah Beck, Tony Bellew, Leonardo Bonucci, Tobi Brown, Martin Compston, Richard Gadd and more. Bryan Habana, Dermot Kennedy, Harry Kewell, Kaylyn Kyle, Gorka Marquez, Nadia Nadim, Livi Sheldon, Carlos Tevez, Edwin van der Sar, Nemanja Vidic, Billy Wingrove and Big Zuu are also part of the World XI team. However, other venues have also been used in the past such as Wembley, Stamford Bridge, City of Manchester Stadium and London Stadium. Soccer Aid was first launched in 2006 by former Take That star Robbie Williams and Jonathan Wilkes. It initially took place every two years but is now an annual event. Females were first allowed to play in the game in 2019 and it is the only mixed-sex match officially sanctioned by The Football Association. 2020 saw the event held behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Final two men charged over Liam Payne's death WILL stand trial after ‘selling tragic star drugs before his balcony fall'
LIAM TWIST Final two men charged over Liam Payne's death WILL stand trial after 'selling tragic star drugs before his balcony fall' Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) TWO men accused of supplying Liam Payne with cocaine just hours before he fell to his death from a Buenos Aires hotel will face trial, Argentine prosecutors confirmed. Waiter Braian Nahuel Paiz and ex-hotel worker Ezequiel David Pereyra have been behind bars since January, charged over the One Direction star's death last October. Prosecutors also revealed Liam had snorted and smoked cocaine in his room at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel 'up to a few minutes before his death.' In a lengthy statement, Argentina's public prosecution service said: 'At the request of the head of the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office No. 14, Andres Esteban Madrea, the two defendants remanded in custody as part of the court investigation into the circumstances surrounding Liam James Payne's death, will go on trial accused of the crime of selling drugs. "They are Braian Nahuel Paiz, 25, who met Payne while working as a waiter in a restaurant in Puerto Madero, and Ezequiel David Pereyra, 24, who was an employee at the Hotel CasaSur Palermo where the former One Direction member died eight months ago after falling from the balcony of room 310, in a proven state of intoxication with cocaine, alcohol and psychotropic drugs." The statement added: 'The autopsy showed Liam's death was caused by polytrauma and internal and external haemorrhaging and it was also determined he had ethyl alcohol in a concentration of up to 2.7 grams per litre as well as cocaine, methylecgonine, benzoylecgonine, cocaethylene and sertraline. 'The forensic medical specialists who performed the autopsy indicated toxicology results showed the dead man consumed cocaine via his nose as well as inhaling it by smoking the drug. 'Consumption took place at least 72 hours prior to his death and up to a few minutes before his death.' The alleged drug dealers are the only two suspects who will end up on the stand. Three other men initially charged over Liam's death were told in February the case against them had been dropped. The tragic singer's close friend Rogelio Nores, hotel receptionist Esteban Grassi and hotel head of security Gilda Martin were accused of Liam's manslaughter by a lower court judge before reversing her decision on appeal. No date has yet been set for the Paiz and Pereyra trial although it is expected to kick off shortly. Former waiter Paiz, who has previously protested his innocence after being accused of selling Liam cocaine on two separate occasions in the run-up to his death, repeated an earlier claim last night from prison that he had shared drugs with the artist but hadn't committed the serious offence of selling him narcotics. The 25-year-old, who got chatting to Payne in a restaurant the former One Direction singer ate at and swapped contact details with him, whined in an interview with Argentinian media outlet Infobae from his jail cell at a Buenos Aires police station: 'I don't know what I'm doing here, I'm a good person. 'I shared drugs with Liam but I didn't sell them.' Describing himself as a drug user who started smoking marihuana as a youngster, he added: 'All I want to do is start studying again and leave jail to work, like I was doing before. 'I regret now giving Liam my Instagram because it all spiralled from there. 'If I hadn't I'd probably be working today, I'd be studying, I'd be doing videos because before meeting Liam I'd participated in the filming of a videoclip for YouTube for a singer and other videos for TV. 'I miss the freedom I had, I miss work, I miss my family, my mum and my sisters.'

Liam Payne's Family Approves His Inclusion in Netflix's ‘Building the Band'
When Netflix premieres its latest musical competition series 'Building the Band' next month, the late Liam Payne will be featured as a guest judge. Thankfully, his family 'has reviewed the series and is supportive of his inclusion,' the streamer shared on Wednesday. 'Building the Band' will essentially combine elements of 'Love Is Blind' and 'Making the Band' in order to give contestants the chance to craft their ideal musical group … all without seeing each other face-to-face. Payne will be a guest judge on the reality TV series opposite mentor and head judge Nicole Scherzinger, host AJ McLean and fellow guest judge Kelly Rowland. The One Direction singer filmed the show prior to his death in October 2024. He was 31. All four of the aforementioned names, of course, come with plenty of expertise to share about being in bands — Payne was famously part of 1D after being put together on 'The X Factor,' while Scherzinger was in The Pussycat Dolls, Rowland was in Destiny's Child and McLean was in The Backstreet Boys. ''Building the Band' brings together talented singers for a truly unique competition show where building the perfect band is all about chemistry. The singers are in complete control as they seek to form their very own bands in individual 'booths' without ever seeing each other. All they have to go on is musical compatibility, connection, chemistry and merit,' per show's the logline. 'What will happen when the bands finally meet, and looks, choreography and style come into play? With incredible performances, compelling drama and one big goal — to find the next great music band — the stage is set for an unforgettable experience.' Executive producers include Cat Lawson, Alison Holloway, Katrina Morrison, Clara Elliot and Simon Crossley, while Remarkable Entertainment and Banijay UK produced. The first four episodes of 'Building the Band' drop July 9 on Netflix, followed by two more batches of episodes the following two Wednesdays.
