Inside Meghan Trainor's Weight Loss Journey: Everything the Singer Has Said About Her Health
Singer Meghan Trainor has lost weight after making "huge lifestyle changes" She started her weight loss journey after welcoming her second child with husband Daryl Sabara Trainor has "never been more comfortable" in her bodyMeghan Trainor is sharing the intimate details of her weight loss journey. In March 2025, Trainor wore a black off-the-shoulder dress to attend Billboard's Women in Music Awards. After fans took notice of her new appearance, Trainor addressed her significant weight loss on Instagram, attributing her transformation to "huge lifestyle changes" such as using the weight-loss drug Mounjaro and working with a dietitian. "No, I don't look like I did 10 years ago. I've been on a journey to be the healthiest, strongest version of myself for my kids and for me," the singer — who shares two kids with her husband, Daryl Sabara — said. In May, Trainor showed off her abs and recent breast augmentation surgery as she performed in a sparkly two-piece set at iHeartRadio's 102.7 KIIS FM Wango Tango. "I have never been more comfortable in my body," she told PEOPLE in March 2025. "I've been working with a therapist for a long time, trying to rewire my brain to love myself more. It's always a work in progress, and that's why I write all these anthemic songs of, 'I love myself,' because it's constantly a thing I'm working on." Here's everything Meghan Trainor has said about her weight loss. Trainor began losing weight after welcoming her first son, Riley, in 2021. She lost 60 pounds through diet and exercise, she told Entertainment Tonight Canada in November 2022. "I was in a really dark place, and I wanted to be in a great place for my son," she said. "I worked [out] every day. I learned that I do like healthy food, and I learned what portions mean." After giving birth to her second son, Barry, in 2023, Trainor resumed her weight loss journey. During an April 2025 episode of Trainor and Sabara's podcast, Workin' On It, the couple opened up about using Mounjaro, which is FDA-approved to treat type 2 diabetes. (The same medication under the brand name Zepbound is approved for weight loss, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.) The couple decided to take Mounjaro after talking to their doctor, emphasizing that it wasn't a substitute for diet and exercise. "You have to put in the work as well,' Trainor said. "We stay in the gym, we work out, we eat right, and we just noticed that we were less hungry." While appearing on Today in December 2024, Trainor revealed that strength training has been critical in her weight loss journey, typically lifting three times a week. 'I didn't know lifting weights would change my life so much," Trainor said. "I was, like, dying, trying to run on the treadmill, and it made me swollen.' In January 2025, the "All About That Bass" singer told Women's Health that her current fitness goal is to "grow my butt back." "I lost so much weight that my booty is looking different," Trainor explained to the outlet. "I was like, 'Wait. I'm the 'Bass' girl with a big butt!' [I've been trying to] lift heavier and do [more] glute activities." Trainor told Women's Health that she strives to eat 100 grams of protein a day. She'll typically snack on two eggs and organic turkey bacon for breakfast, while lunch and dinner usually come from a meal delivery service. "I wish I knew how to cook. I make bland stuff," Trainor told the outlet. "But my husband is a nerd about finding food delivery companies that give you protein and help you out with a journey like that. So we're always looking for a new one." Sabara and Trainor aren't just husband and wife — they're also workout buddies. They typically hit the gym three days a week while their nanny watches Riley and Barry. While strength training is their primary focus, Trainor enjoys encouraging Sabara to push himself physically. "I've been begging [Daryl] to join me so I'm not alone," she told Women's Health. "It's funny, I do hard stuff and he's like, 'I don't want to work that hard.' I'm like, 'But you should!' Meghan Trainor faces backlash for changing 'All About That Bass' lyric amid weight loss transformation: 'I miss when you didn't look exactly like everyone else'
Meghan Trainor is facing backlash after changing a beloved lyric. At iHeartRadio's KIIS-FM Wango Tango in Huntington Beach, Calif., on Saturday, Trainor performed a series of tracks, including her 2014 breakthrough single, 'All About That Bass,' in which she sings about embracing her own body, while encouraging others to do the same. A 29-second video posted by the official 102.7 KIIS FM TikTok account shows Trainor performing the famed track, which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2014. As the first verse kicks in, Trainor, in a hot pink, rhinestone-encrusted two-piece, sings, 'Yeah, it's pretty clear, I got some new boobs/But I can shake it, shake it, like I'm supposed to do.' The original lyric, 'Yeah it's pretty clear, I ain't no size two,' was apparently swapped out to reflect recent changes to Trainor's body, including a breast augmentation as well as substantial weight loss — and some fans appear to be disappointed by this decision. On Trainor's Instagram post celebrating her Wango Tango performance, one fan wrote, 'You're stunning, but I miss when you didn't look exactly like everyone else in Hollywood and you were about the bass.' Another said, 'Beautiful but I really loved when you represented girls who can't look like every other basic model.' Referencing the song's wordplay in the chorus — 'Because you know I'm all about that bass/'Bout that bass, no treble' — one person declared that they were unfollowing Trainor as a result of the lyric change, commenting, 'No bass, all treble. Unfollowed.' Since its release, 'All About That Bass' has been the subject of scrutiny, with some critics praising the track's overarching message as being uplifting — and others believing it offers an unfair critique of people's bodies. Trainor, aware of the criticism, previously said that she never intended to body shame smaller women. 'Even with some of the 'hate' comments I've seen, they've gotten the conversation going,' the singer told Billboard in 2014. 'But, I'm not bashing skinny girls. Some girls have commented, 'I'm a size zero, so you must hate me.' But that's not it at all! There have been battles on my YouTube page, like, 'You don't know what she's talking about. She's actually saying, 'I know even you skinny girls struggle.' And that's exactly how I feel.' Trainor, who cowrote the track with songwriter Kevin Kadish, has also said that the song's message is just as much for her as it is for other women who struggle to love their own bodies. 'I wrote it for me, as well, because I've struggled with [body image] since I was very young,' she said in the 2014 interview. 'So, if other girls can relate to the song, it makes me feel even better. It's unreal that I'm kind of helping people.' The 'Whoops' singer embarked on her weight loss journey in 2021, after giving birth to her first son, Riley, whom she shares with her husband, Spy Kids star Daryl Sabara. Trainor told Entertainment Tonight Canada in 2022 that she was in 'a really dark place' due to being the heaviest she's ever been, which prompted her to lose 60 pounds 'the healthy way.' Coupled with working out daily with her personal trainer, Rebecca Stanton, the mom of two said she adopted healthy food habits and learned how to exercise portion control. In an Instagram post from March, Trainor reflected on the 'disheartening' comments she's received about her changing body. 'This is what it's like to be a woman in the music industry,' she wrote, before revealing that she's also using a GLP-1 medication. 'No, I don't look like I did 10 years ago,' she wrote. 'I've been on a journey to be the healthiest, strongest version of myself for my kids and for me. I've worked with a dietician, made huge lifestyle changes, started exercising with a trainer, and yes, I used science and support (shoutout to Mounjaro!) to help me after my second pregnancy.' Added Trainor, 'And I'm so glad I did because I feel great.'
