Morocco Showcases Digital Transformation at Regional ICT Congress in Jordan
Rabat – Morocco's progress in digital transformation took the focus on Wednesday during the regional congress titled 'Towards a Digitally Accessible Arab Region – ICTs for All 2025,' held in Amman, Jordan.
Safaa El Alaoui, Head of the Universal Digital Access Service at the Moroccan Digital Development Agency (ADD), presented Morocco's efforts and strategic roadmap to advance digital inclusion and public service digitalization .
The congress was organized by Jordan's Telecommunications Regulatory Commission in partnership with the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
El Alaoui emphasized that the ADD's roadmap supports the national strategy 'Morocco Digital 2030,' launched in September 2024. The strategy aims to boost the digital economy, encourage the development of local tech solutions, create jobs, and accelerate the digitization of public services.
Key pillars of the roadmap include modernizing public administration, enhancing interoperability between services, improving user experience, and promoting digital adoption among citizens, particularly vulnerable populations.
Morocco, she said, aspires to become a leading digital and tech hub in Africa, while ensuring inclusive access to digital tools. Among ADD's flagship initiatives is the national data exchange platform for public institutions, designed to streamline citizen access to digital services and increase administrative efficiency.
El Alaoui also highlighted the 'Digital Lab,' which supports rapid service digitization projects, and 'Dar Al Mouwatin,' a one-stop digital center providing essential e-services to citizens, especially in remote areas.
Further supporting digital literacy, the 'Academia Raqmya' platform offers training under the 'Digital Acculturation Pathway' to equip citizens with digital skills and knowledge of emerging technologies.
ADD is also working with ESCWA to develop a national digital accessibility roadmap aimed at promoting inclusive design standards across digital platforms, ensuring better access for people with disabilities and reducing the digital divide.
The two-day congress gathered regional experts and decision-makers to discuss digital inclusion, the potential of emerging technologies like AI, and ways to enhance cooperation for a more equitable digital society in the Arab world. Tags: ADDammanDigitaldigitalization in Morocco

Marrakech – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Morocco in early July as part of a five-nation diplomatic tour. The visit to Rabat will mark the first stop in Modi's extensive journey spanning Africa, Latin America, and West Asia. According to Economic Times, the visit to Morocco has been in preparation for several years but was repeatedly postponed due to scheduling conflicts. Modi is expected to meet with King Mohammed VI during his stay in Rabat. Morocco holds strategic importance for New Delhi as an emerging security and economic partner in North Africa. The Indian newspaper describes Morocco as 'one of the key Arab states with a growing economy, and strong outreach in West Africa and southern Europe.' Other Indian media outlets went further, referring to the North African country as a 'strategic partner' with rising regional influence. In a May interview with Morocco World News (MWN), a senior diplomat from the Indian embassy in Rabat characterized the relationship as 'built on trust, shared ambitions, and a long-standing sense of mutual respect.' The diplomat stressed that 'India and Morocco share a time-tested and resilient partnership built on deep mutual respect, strategic convergence, and shared quest for the well-being and prosperity of our citizens.' The diplomatic tour comes shortly after Modi's recent re-election as India's prime minister. The visit aims to strengthen India's leadership position within the Global South and build a broader anti-terror coalition following the Pahalgam attack in India. The talks between Modi and the Moroccan monarch are expected to focus on expanding cooperation in several key sectors. Priority areas include energy, cybersecurity, smart agriculture, and African logistics chains. This planned meeting shows India's intention to broaden its influence beyond Asia, with Morocco positioned as a first-tier partner for the coming years. In late 2024, Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), a subsidiary of India's Tata Group, established a robust foothold in Morocco through a landmark defense production agreement. The partnership centers on locally manufacturing Wheeled Armoured Combat Vehicles (WhAP 8×8) and developing a regional hub for defense mobility equipment, exemplifying the growing South-South cooperation that both countries aim to advance in the defense sector. After Morocco, Modi will continue his tour with visits to Argentina, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jordan. His stop in Brazil on July 6-7 will coincide with the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, where he may meet with several global leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping. The BRICS Summit will address six priority areas under Brazil's chairmanship: reform of global governance, climate change, climate financing, global health, artificial intelligence, and economy and finance. Brazilian Ambassador to India Kenneth F. Haczynski da Nóbrega noted that the summit would produce a joint statement and specific declarations on climate change financing and artificial intelligence governance. The timing of Modi's visit comes just days after King Mohammed VI extended condolences to India following the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12. Four Moroccan Companies Among Forbes Top 100 Listed Companies 2025
Rabat — Forbes Middle East's Top 100 Listed Companies 2025 featured four Moroccan businesses, including banking institution Attijariwafa Bank, Maroc Telecom, Bank of Africa, and BCP. Attijariwafa Attijariwafa Bank is ranked 26 out of the 100 businesses listed by Forbes. With a market value of $15.4 billion and sales of $5.2 billion, the bank has established a name for itself in the list for its workforce and services for over 12 million customers across more than 7,200 branches. 'Attijariwafa Bank operates in 27 countries through majority-owned banking subsidiaries. In September 2024, the bank launched an investment fund dedicated to energy efficiency projects across Africa in partnership with Econoler. Al Mada is the bank's largest shareholder with a 46.5% stake,' Forbes said . The bank is managed by its chairman and CEO, Mohamed El Kettani. BCP Group Forbes listed Morocco's BCP Group 39th on the list. The group, chaired by CEO Naziha Belkeziz, has a market value of $5.9 billion and profits of $536 million. 'In May 2024, the group entered into a $70 million risk-sharing agreement with the African Development Bank to support private-sector financing and enhance trade in Africa,' Forbes wrote , noting that the bank served 8.6 million customers as of December 2024.
