Hamlin returns to action with runner-up effort: 'Everything's clicking'
LONG POND, Pa. — Denny Hamlin returned to his best track on the NASCAR Cup Series calendar after one week off and netted a runner-up finish at Pocono Raceway.
After sitting out last week's race in Mexico City as he and fiancée Jordan Fish welcomed the birth of their third child, Hamlin led 32 laps, won Stage 1 and was alongside teammate Chase Briscoe on the final restart. Ultimately, despite Briscoe's late fuel savings and Hamlin's heated pursuit, the No. 11 JGR driver was left to settle for a second-place finish.

Briscoe didn't get as much fuel into his tank during his last pit stop and needed to conserve late. Hamlin believed he had the advantage but could not get alongside Briscoe to truly establish position for what would have been the winning pass.
'I tried the best I could to make runs at him,' said Hamlin, a seven-time winner at Pocono. 'I'd back off, cool everything down, try to make another run, and as soon as I'd get within one or two car lengths, it would just heat the tires up and then I couldn't make a move on him. Truthfully, I thought he'd run out of gas. But we just were the next best on our strategy, which I thought was the right strategy. We just got a little unlucky.'
Briscoe was leading Chris Buescher and Hamlin before the final round of green-flag pit stops began. Briscoe hit pit road at Lap 119 while Hamlin and crew chief Chris Gayle hit pit road one lap later with 40 laps remaining. Briscoe had a shorter pit stop — largely because Briscoe left the box earlier than his crew anticipated — and escaped with a three-second advantage over Hamlin, who leaped Buescher in the cycle. A caution came out at Lap 124, which bunched the field together again. But Briscoe prevailed when the green flag waved, clearing Hamlin for the lead by the time they reached Turn 1.

'I felt the restart certainly was not good,' Hamlin said. 'He didn't get a push, but then the person behind me didn't push. That was a real defining moment to not have a chance to get around him because once you get off Turn 2 clear, you have to really mess up to lose the lead.'
A three-time winner already this season, Hamlin has been a dominant force in 2025. The No. 11 Toyota has finished third or better in six of Hamlin's last 10 starts, leading laps in nine of those 10 as well. Hamlin exits Pocono third in the regular-season standings, only trailing the Hendrick Motorsports duo of William Byron and Kyle Larson.
'Every week, we're battling for a win,' Hamlin said. 'Things are going really, really good right now. I'm happy with the way our team's performing. Everything's clicking.'
The NASCAR Cup Series returns to action Saturday night at EchoPark Speedway (formerly Atlanta), marking the first race of the inaugural In-Season Challenge at 7 p.m. ET on TNT Sports/truTV, HBO Max, PRN Radio, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

NASCAR drivers taken back by wild fan reception at New York's Fanatics Fest
Some of NASCAR's biggest stars were among the high-profile celebrities at Fanatics Fest on Friday in New York. The Big Apple is not exactly a hotbed for auto racing - especially when most of the loudest crowds popped for Derek Jeter, Eli Manning and other New York legends throughout the weekend. However, three of the sport's biggest stars were flabbergasted by the reactions they got from some of the fans in attendance. "I didn't really, honestly, know what I was coming to. So to have people recognize me here is pretty cool," Kyle Larson told Fox News Digital at the event. NASCAR Cup leader William Byron added that he was "surprised" by all the love he got at Javits Center in Manhattan. "I am surprised, man. There were quite a few 24 fans here in the crowd. It's pretty cool, man. We're down the road this weekend at Pocono, looking forward to it, and it's fun being out here and seeing cool people." Denny Hamlin is competing in the Fanatics Games, where fans are going up against pro athletes, including Tom Brady, to win $1 million. Maybe his crowd is a bit different, considering he is going up against Brady, Rob Gronkowski and other stars. At the very least, however, he is not taking it for granted that he is being recognized throughout the event. "It's been overwhelming. Just all the different booths, bringing other sports together, it's just fantastic to see. And having the opportunity to size myself up with other athletes," Hamlin said. "We don't have a huge presence up in this area, but still, you see a lot of NASCAR racing shirts, and when you get autograph requests, it's like, OK, they do recognize you, even in this area." Other celebrities in attendance on Friday included Caleb Williams, Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, Logan Paul, Michael Strahan, Travis Scott and Livvy Dunne. Winners, losers from NASCAR Cup race at Pocono won by Chase Briscoe
LONG POND, Pa. — A look at the winners and losers from Sunday's Cup race at Pocono Raceway. WINNERS Chase Briscoe — Scored his first Cup win with Joe Gibbs Racing and shed the weight he felt of having not yet won in his first season with the organization. He led a race-high 72 laps in scoring his third career series victory. Dustin Long, Denny Hamlin — He earned the No. 1 seed in the upcoming In-Season Challenge with a runner-up finish at Pocono. He's on a roll. He finished third at Nashville, won Michigan before skipping Mexico for the birth of his son, and finished second at Pocono. RFK Racing — Two weeks ago the team placed three cars in the top 10 for the first time since July 2016. Sunday, they repeated the feat. Chris Buescher finished fourth, Ryan Preece was eighth and Brad Keselowski placed ninth. Ryan Blaney — Twice had to come through the field to finish third. He took the green flag at the rear because the team had to replace the car's starter. A pit road speeding penalty during the race dropped him to the back. He has four top-five finishes, including a win, in the last seven races. Chase Elliott — His fifth-place finish gave him back-to-back top fives for the first time this season. John Hunter Nemechek — He finished sixth for the second week in a row. It is his fourth top 10 in the last seven races. LOSERS 23XI Racing —No team car finished better than 32nd. Brake issues led to Riley Herbst (37th) and Bubba Wallace (36th) crashing. Tyler Reddick (32nd) went to the garage briefly during the race for an issue. William Byron — The points leader was the fastest in practice but then crashed in qualifying, forcing him to start at the rear. The car was repaired. He moved up through the field to score points in each stage but ended up finishing 27th.
