Ayer Kuning polls: Barisan's Yusri reaches out on social media to show young voters what he can offer

KAMPAR: With the Ayer Kuning by-election fast approaching, Barisan Nasional candidate Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir says the coalition is doubling its efforts to reach out to voters.
The Tapah Umno secretary said on-ground campaigning will continue while an appeal is being sent out via various social media platforms urging outstation voters to come back and cast their ballots on Saturday (April 26).

"We will continue with door-to-door campaigning, and also... other ways to reach out to the people.
"One of the (better) ways to reach the younger generation nowadays is through social media," he told a press conference after an interview session with MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon here on Wednesday (April 23).
"There are also the older generation (on social media), but the younger ones are more prone to using it.
"They will get to see what I can offer them," he said, adding that people could follow him on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and other platforms.

The Perak state by-election was called following the passing of Barisan incumbent Ishsam Shahruddin in February.
In GE15, Ishsam polled 9,088 votes and won by a 2,213-vote majority, defeating Pakatan Harapan's Mohd Nazri Hashim, Perikatan Nasional's Muhammad Noor Farid, Pejuang's Maziah Salim, and Parti Sosialis Malaysia's KS Bawani.
On Saturday, Yusri will be up against Bawani and Perikatan's Abd Muhaimin Malek.

Foreign minister meets counterparts from Syria, Azerbaijan, Yemen

KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Syria, Azerbaijan and Yemen on the sidelines of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting in Istanbul, Türkiye on Sunday. "Alhamdulillah, this meeting served as an important platform to strengthen Malaysia–Azerbaijan relations and to discuss regional and international developments of mutual interest," he said. He also had a bilateral discussion with Yemen's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr Shaya Mohsin Zindani. "This meeting opened the door to enhancing Malaysia–Republic of Yemen bilateral ties and to discuss regional issues of shared concern," he said. Meanwhile, Mohamad held a brief meeting with Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal Farhan Al-Saud, where they exchanged views on Malaysia–Saudi Arabia bilateral matters and regional issues of mutual concern. "The close relations between both countries continue to be strengthened through strategic cooperation and strong mutual understanding at various levels, including on the OIC platform," according to the Facebook post. Despite a packed schedule, Mohamad also held a bilateral meeting with the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific, Mohamed Khaled Khiari, on the sidelines of the meeting. "This engagement provided an opportunity for in-depth discussion on regional issues and closer multilateral cooperation," he said. Mohamad also met with the Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, Dr Riyad H. Mansour. "I conveyed Malaysia's continued commitment to defending the rights of the Palestinian people during this brief meeting," he said. PM aids ailing single mother living in poor conditions

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has presented a contribution to Melah Idris, a single mother living in poverty and suffering from chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol. The contribution was handed over by the Prime Minister's political secretary, Datuk Ahmad Farhan Fauzi, when he visited the 63-year-old mother of eight at her home in Kampung Padang, Kuantan. Ahmad Farhan said the senior citizen relied entirely on her children to cover kitchen expenses and utility bills. 'Her house is in a poor condition, with the bedroom floor already rotting and no longer safe to live in. Yet, her face remains calm, as if she keeps all her suffering deep inside so as not to burden anyone. 'On behalf of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, I am presenting a small contribution and will look into the most appropriate form of assistance for her, not only in terms of financial aid but also in ensuring a safer place for her to live,' he said in a Facebook post shared by the Prime Minister today. In the same post, Ahmad Farhan expressed hope that no citizen would be left to suffer in silence without receiving proper assistance.
