Jim Irsay to be inducted into Colts Ring of Honor

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Jim Irsay, the late owner and CEO of the Indianapolis Colts, will be inducted into the Indianapolis Colts Ring of Honor at Lucas Oil Stadium during the September 7 home opener vs. the Miami Dolphins. Irsay passed away on May 21 and was laid to rest on June 2. The Colts made the announcement June 13 on what would have been Irsay's 66th birthday. Colts' deep threat Alec Pierce looking to expand his game Officials say Jim Irsay will become the 20th honoree, joining: Owner Robert Irsay WR-Bill Brooks Head Coach Ted Marchibroda G/T-Chris Hinton QB-Jim Harbaugh 'Colts Nation' Head Coach Tony Dungy WR-Marvin Harrison RB-Edgerrin James RB-Eric Dickerson RB-Marshall Faulk C-Jeff Saturday General Manager Bill Polian QB-Peyton Manning WR-Reggie Wayne DE-Dwight Freeney DE-Robert Mathis T/G-Tarik Glenn TE-Dallas Clark 'There was no bigger advocate for the Colts, the NFL, the city of Indianapolis and the state of Indiana than our dad, Jim Irsay,' said Colts Owner and CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon. 'It's only fitting that he now joins the other amazing Colts legends in our Ring of Honor who contributed so much to our franchise and our community over the past four decades.' Jim was born and raised in the Chicago area, but some of his memories came from his youth working Colts training camps in Baltimore, Maryland, after his father, a Chicago businessman, acquired the Baltimore Colts in 1972. There, Jim started his 54-year affiliation with the Colts and began 'cultivating a lifetime of relationships' with players, coaches and staff. The Pacers are in the NBA Finals. The Fever have Caitlin Clark. In Indy, basketball is booming After graduating in 1982 from Southern Methodist University, where he played football and earned a degree in broadcast journalism, Jim joined the franchise and worked in virtually every department before being named the youngest general manager in NFL history when the Colts arrived in Indianapolis in 1984. In 1987, he helped lead the team to its first division title and playoff appearance during the Indianapolis era. After he assumed sole ownership of the club in 1997, Jim oversaw a 'historic, record-breaking' period of success on the field. The Colts say, overall, Jim, as owner, led them to 10 division titles, two AFC Championships and the club's fourth world championship. From 2007 to 2012, the Colts played in two Super Bowls (XLI, XLIV) and hosted a Super Bowl in a span of just six years. Officials say a pillar of his lasting legacy is the powerful influence Kicking The Stigma has had, is having and will have on improving mental health awareness, research and treatment in Indiana and across the United States. Jasper preps for 27th semi-state appearance

JASPER, Ind. (WEHT) — For the second straight week, the Wildcats look to advance in front of their home crowd. It's something that players say makes a difference. 'It feels great out here whenever you wear Jasper across your chest,' Senior Brayden Giesler said. 'It just means a lot, especially the atmosphere during games.' 'It's just a great feeling to have that many people behind you,' senior Kai Kunz said. 'We have a great community, everybody is into it.' 'It's a great home field advantage out here and we bring a lot of fans,' Giesler said. 'It obviously means a lot to the community that we are still playing so it's nice.' But to keep playing head coach Terry Gobert says it won't come down to flashy plays. 'We preach it every game and it's so simple that it's scary but you only give them three outs or less,' head coach Terry Gobert said. 'I think it helps that we treat every game the same because when you get in this situation it's the same game. you just hopefully get more fans in the stands at each level.' Fans will pack into the stands on Saturday for Jasper's 1 p.m. clash with Greensburg. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. North using 'grit' as motivation ahead of Semi-State

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — The North Huskies, one of the most dominant teams in the Tri-State this season, believe they have what it takes to wear the crown in 4-a. 'We play a lot of grit,' junior Brooks Carroll said. 'We play tough. Our pitching does a lot for us. And we scrape enough runs to win ball games.' 'Yeah, we're a gritty ballclub,' head coach Jeremy Jones said. 'You know we're not pretty. You know we but we do a lot of little things. Correct. Whether it's bunting or slashing, hit and run, that type of stuff.' This tight knit group has the makings of a state championship team. After years of fighting to get out of the sectional just to come up short to Castle North is bound for the semi-state bringing with it loads of excitement. 'Obviously there's pressure, but I feel like with us it's just we're kind of going in there with house money,' Carroll said. 'You know, being in a spot where we haven't been before, it's, you know, screw it. Why not just go play with our head on fire and play hard and maybe scratch out a couple of wins, get us a gas field.' All year long the Huskies have sparked a new formula for winning dominant pitching. When scoring four or more runs this season north is a remarkable 20-0. But what matters the most is a key factor that doesn't pop up on the stat sheet. 'Their heart you know, and their ability to come together and be around each other and just find a way with two outs to get a hit,' said Jones. 'We had a situation on Saturday Braden Perry comes in second or third no outs, two one ball game, it was strike out, strike out flyball. And you know he came in to do a job, and thats been the story this season for us. We asl guys to perform at their best and hopefully well have more of the same on Saturday.'
