Sabah PKR supports MACC continued action in combating graft

Published on: Thu, Jun 19, 2025 Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR expressed full support for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) continued action in combating graft, following news that two individuals will soon be charged over alleged corruption involving mineral mining licences in the State. Sabah PKR said the issue had long been a public concern, especially as it involved the fair management of high-value natural resources for the benefit of all.
Advertisement The party reiterated that corruption must be tackled regardless of rank or political ties, as it undermines public trust in the governance of state resources. It also emphasised that transparency, integrity, and accountability must remain the foundation of all decisions involving Sabah's wealth. In the capital itself, at least five people were injured, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram. Photos posted by Ukraine's State Emergency Service showed rescuers leading people to safety from several buildings and structures on fire in the dark. The Service said a pregnant woman was among those rescued. The attack caused damage in three of the city's 10 districts, including in several apartment buildings, Klitschko said. An exit to the metro station in Kyiv's Sviatoshynskyi districts was also damaged, as well as an adjacent bus stop, Kyiv's officials said. Kyiv's deep metro stations have been used throughout the war as some of the city's safest bomb shelters. Russia's deadliest attack on Kyiv last week with hundreds of drones killed 28 people and injured more than 150, with Ukrainian officials saying that nearly 30 sites were hit during the multi-wave attack. Israel army says carried out strikes on military targets in Iran
JERUSALEM: The Israeli army said it carried out strikes on Iranian military targets, including missile launch and storage sites, on Sunday. 'Approximately 20 (Israeli airforce) fighter jets conducted intelligence-based strikes using over 30 munitions on military targets in Iran,' the Israeli army said in a statement posted to Telegram. The attacks were carried out on 'storage and missile launching infrastructure sites', as well as 'military satellites and radar sites', it added. It came after the United States carried out massive air strikes that Washington said had destroyed Tehran's nuclear program, though some officials cautioned that the extent of the damage was unclear. Israel also struck several parts of northwest Iran on Sunday, Iranian media reported, as fighting between the arch enemies raged. At least three people were killed on Sunday after an Israeli strike hit an ambulance in central Iran. United Nations chief Antonio Guterres warned against yet 'another cycle of destruction' and retaliation following the US strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, which he said marked a 'perilous turn' in the region.

President of the Asean Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ACCI) Sabah Chapter, Datuk Nordin Ening, said the situation could trigger a ripple effect on global economic stability and impact local businesses connected to international markets. 'This conflict isn't just about foreign politics. It has direct implications on global oil prices, currency exchange rates, supply chains, and shipping costs. Malaysian entrepreneurs, especially in Sabah, where many rely on imports and exports, must be better prepared,' he said when commenting on the matter. He urged entrepreneurs to re-evaluate their strategies, including aspects of geopolitical risk management, market diversification, and building business resilience against global uncertainties. 'Smart entrepreneurs don't rely on a single market source or trade route. In an increasingly unpredictable world, we must have contingency and alternative plans, including strengthening regional markets such as Asean,' he added. According to Nordin, the government should also take a more proactive role in providing up-to-date information, financial support, and technical assistance to affected industry players.
