Punjab: Man kills daughter, her male friend after they eloped, surrenders
A man allegedly killed his 22-year-old daughter and her 24-year-old male friend, who had 'eloped', with a sharp-edged weapon in Amritsar rural area and surrendered at the Ram Tirath police outpost, police said.
Outpost in-charge Rachhpal Singh said: 'Police reached the scene and took the bodies in custody. The accused has surrendered. If others are involved in the crime, they will face action.'
The accused was taken into custody and booked for murder, police said. The girl belonged to a Dalit community, and the boy was from an upper caste, residents of neighbouring villages.
Lopoke police station SHO Inderjit Singh said: 'The male victim was employed near the woman victim's village and the two got acquainted.'
They reportedly eloped on June 1. According to police, 'when they did not return, both families started searching for their children. On Monday, the victims were spotted on the Amritsar district court premises. They had reportedly come to apply for their wedding. A relative of the woman, however, spotted them and informed her family… Soon, her family members reached the court and assured the victims that they would arrange their wedding. Trusting them, the victims agreed to return home.'
According to preliminary probe, police said, once the victims stepped into the woman's house 'they were overpowered and locked in a room. They were beaten mercilessly; when blood-soaked, they were given electric shocks. As both survived the electric shocks, the woman's father slit the throats of his daughter and her male friend with a sharp-edged weapon,' police said.
The accused then roamed around in the village 'with his hands soaked in blood before walking to the Ram Tirath police outpost to surrender', police sources said, adding the bodies have been sent for post-mortem exam, and further probe is on.

Cops secure Dalit couple's wedding amid row over ‘upper-caste baraat route'
Agra: A Dalit couple's wedding in Dhakpura village of Etah district was held under heavy police protection on Friday evening after upper caste men objected to the procession taking their "traditional route", triggering stone-pelting and leaving a policeman injured, police said on Sunday. The bride, Arti Kumari, 19, was to marry Vikas Singh, 21, of Hathras on Saurday night when the dispute began. Etah SSP Shyam Narayan Singh led a sizeable force to the village, and the wedding was eventually conducted peacefully under tight security. Dev Charan Singh, the groom's uncle, said, "We reached the entrance of the village to start the wedding procession. There were two routes: one short, and one longer through the village. The bride's family wanted the longer route, as the Thakur community uses that path for their weddings." As the groom's party tried to take the longer route, an argument broke out, followed by stone-pelting between members of the two communities. Police constable Sunil Kumar was injured in the incident. Satpal, the bride's brother, added that tradition guided their choice of route. "There was some disruption initially, but the wedding was eventually conducted without further issues and the bride was sent off peacefully. " Police filed an FIR against 16 named and 40–50 unnamed people under sections 191(2) (rioting), 191(3) (rioting with deadly weapons), 190 (unlawful assembly), and 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) of the BNS. SSP Singh said the dispute was "over the choice of procession route." He added, "Eventually, after discussions, the procession continued on the designated path with agreement from the Thakur community. The situation is peaceful, and police remain deployed as a precaution. The village collectively supported the event, especially since the bride's father is deceased."

Andhra Pradesh horror: Dalit girl 'gangraped' for 2 years; 13 arrested
Representative image NEW DELHI: Thirteen people have been arrested in Edgurallapalli, Andhra Pradesh, in connection with the alleged gangrape of a 15-year-old Dalit girl that continued for two years, leading to her pregnancy. The case came to light on June 9 after the victim filed a complaint, with police registering charges under POCSO Act , SC/ST Atrocities Act, and BNS. Six suspects were arrested on June 9, including Achampalli Vardhan, Talari Murali, Badagorla Nandavardhan Raj, Arencheru Nagaraju, Boya Sanjeev, and Budida Rajanna, aged between 21 and 51 years. Seven more arrests followed on June 10, while the main accused remains at large. "In this heinous case, the accused were identified, traced, and arrested with coordination by special teams under Dharmavaram subdivision," said Sri Satya Sai district Superintendent of Police V Ratna at a press conference. The investigation revealed that the perpetrators allegedly blackmailed the victim using inappropriate images and videos. The girl, now eight months pregnant, is receiving treatment at a government hospital in Ananthapur district, with doctors ruling out abortion due to the advanced pregnancy stage. Police are working with the Child Welfare Committee to relocate the girl post-delivery. They have requested permission for DNA testing of the unborn child for legal proceedings. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 임플란트, 지금 시작하세요 [자세히 보기] 임플란트 더 알아보기 Undo "Despite being pregnant for eight months, no local alerted the officials. We believe caste stigma and fear led to the community's silence over the repeated abuse," said a police official. The victim, a government school student, comes from a vulnerable background with her mother working as a laborer and father deceased. Police suspect this situation made them susceptible to community pressure and silence. Some villagers allegedly pressured the girl to marry one of the accused to close the case. Police are investigating possible lapses by school, health, and child protection officials. Several arrested individuals have criminal records. Special teams have been formed to apprehend those still absconding. The arrested accused are in judicial custody, and the minor has been placed under the Juvenile Justice Board. The district administration has committed to ensuring the victim's safety, medical care, legal support, and psychological assistance during recovery. They are investigating the case and examining potential institutional oversights. (The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
