Israel, Iran expand strikes on third day

Rudaw Net7 days ago

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Israel and Iran continued exchanging strikes on the third day of the conflict, launching deadly attacks throughout the night despite calls for de-escalation.
Israel on Friday conducted what it called a 'preemptive strike' targeting Iranian nuclear facilities and senior military commanders, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying the operation, dubbed Rising Lion, aimed to 'roll back the Iranian threat to Israel's very survival,' warning that it could continue for days.
Iran responded with counter-strikes, firing barrages of ballistic missiles at Israel as the Iron Dome aerial defense system scrambled to destroy Iranian missiles. The attacks came after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei delivered a speech, vowing to bring Israel 'to ruin.'
The attacks have since intensified, and on early Sunday, Iranian ballistic missile strikes on Tel Aviv killed at least eight people and injured around 200, according to Israeli emergency services.
In the latest Iranian toll, last updated after Israel's first wave of strikes, Iran's ambassador to the UN said 78 people were killed and 320 others wounded.
US President Donald Trump said that Washington 'had nothing to do with the attack on Iran, tonight,' warning Tehran against attacking US personnel.
'If we are attacked in any way, shape or form by Iran, the full strength and might of the U.S. Armed Forces will come down on you at levels never seen before,' Trump stressed, in a post on his Truth Social platform.
'However, we can easily get a deal done between Iran and Israel, and end this bloody conflict!' he added.
On Saturday, a sixth round of nuclear talks between Iran and Israel, scheduled for Sunday, was canceled.

Iran escalates against Israel with 19th strike wave and Dimona threat

Shafaq News/ Tehran launched the 19th wave of its True Promise 3 campaign against Tel Aviv on Saturday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed, as warnings to strike Israel's Dimona nuclear power plant mount. In a brief statement, the IRGC said the latest wave included a large number of drones targeting northern and southern Israel, marking a continued escalation in Iran's direct military response. The announcement came amid growing threats from senior Iranian officials. Speaking to Al Jazeera, a high-ranking Iranian official cautioned that Israel's Dimona nuclear facility could become a 'legitimate target' if the Israeli war enters a more complex phase. He further noted that the Iranian strikes had already dealt significant damage, accusing the Israeli army of deliberately hiding the extent of its losses. 'We have yet to deploy our most advanced missiles—but we will, without a doubt.' The official explained that his country's strategy hinges on depleting Israel's interceptor missile stockpiles through sustained, calculated attacks. 'We have detailed intelligence on their air defense capacity and are systematically wearing it down.' He also warned that any direct US involvement would trigger a broader regional conflict and expose American interests in the Middle East to 'serious danger.' According to the official, targeting US bases in the region would be 'easier than hitting Israel's heartland.' Meanwhile, Colonel Iman Tajik, spokesperson for Operation True Promise 3, delivered a sharp message to Israelis: 'Flee [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu's quagmire—your death is inevitable.'

Yemen to alert UN of states preparing to aid Israel

Shafaq News/ Yemen's Supreme Political Council President Mahdi al-Mashat announced plans to notify the United Nations of observed preparations by some countries to assist Israel in its military campaign against Iran. In remarks to Yemen News Agency (SABA) on Saturday, al-Mashat stressed that his country's decision is rooted in humanitarian, religious, and legal principles, calling on Arab and Islamic nations to 'take a unified stand instead of waiting to be targeted one by one.' 'The flames of war will eventually reach every corner of the region if we don't act together to stop the campaign of domination led by arrogant powers.' Reiterating Yemen's position on US involvement, al-Mashat confirmed that Washington would gain nothing by joining Israel's assault except what he described as a deeper entanglement in the conflict. 'Everyone will see that clearly,' he said. He further warned that any actor complicit in the Israeli attack must bear the consequences, revealing plans to direct the Foreign Ministry to notify the United Nations of observed preparations by some member states to assist in the aggression against Iran. 'Yemen will confront any such involvement through all legitimate means.' Earlier Saturday, Yemen's Ansarallah (Houthis) threatened to strike US naval vessels in the Red Sea if Washington supports Tel Aviv, accusing both the US and Israel of pursuing regional domination under coordinated efforts. The warning comes as Israel's Operation Rising Lion continues to target Iranian nuclear and military sites, killing senior IRGC commanders and nuclear scientists, while Iran's response—True Promise 3—has so far unleashed 18 waves of missile and drone attacks across Israeli territory.
