Police called to collision involving triple-murder suspect Travis Decker two days before kidnapping
Triple-murder suspect Travis Decker was involved in a rear-end collision just two days before police say he kidnapped and murdered his three children in Wenatchee.
Newly obtained documents by KIRO 7, show that an officer with the Wenatchee Police Department responded to a crash at the intersection of Miller Street and Fifth Street on Wednesday, May 28, at about 3:52 a.m.
According to the Chelan County Sheriff's Office, a ping from Deckers phone on Thursday showed that Decker was at the campsite where his children were killed.
On Friday, deputies found their bodies. Police said it appeared they died from asphyxiation.
His white GMC Sierra pick-up truck was also there, with his wallet inside.
According to the Wenatchee Police Department, on that Wednesday morning, the non-injury collision happened when Decker in his GMC was stopped at a red light behind another car.
When the light turned green, both vehicles began to move. The car then slowed for traffic ahead of it, and Decker rear-ended the car.
Police noted there was damage to the front end of Decker's truck and rear-end damage to the car.
When Decker was interviewed, police say he admitted to not having car insurance.
The officer cited Decker $196 for following too closely and $559 for operating his truck without insurance.

A Washington state survivalist has been on the run from authorities for nearly a week after allegedly killing his three young daughters, who were found with plastic bags over their heads and bound wrists at a campground in Chelan County Monday. Travis Caleb Decker, 32, did not have custody of the girls – all of whom are believed to have died from asphyxiation. Decker spent time in the military and is an avid outdoorsman, according to authorities. "We're getting more confirmation, that he might have possibly gone through Mountain Survival School," Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison told reporters Wednesday. "But we also know, too, that he's been an outdoorsman since he was a kid." On Thursday, he released a new photo showing Decker's tattoos and said search warrants had generated leads. He urged homeowners and people with mountain cabins to lock their doors – including to sheds and outbuildings, leave their blinds open and turn on outdoor lighting. The children were ages 5, 8 and 9, and Decker's ex-wife Whitney Decker, 35, told police Monday that he had failed to bring the girls back to her after a Friday visit under the terms of their court-ordered parenting plan, according to court documents. They found all three girls' bodies between 75 and 100 yards away, down an embankment, according to court documents. Each one had a plastic bag over her head and "their wrists were also zip-tied or showed signs of being zip-tied," according to the affidavit. Deputies found two bloody handprints on the pickup's tailgate. Decker's whereabouts remain unknown and he is charged with three counts each of aggravated first-degree murder and kidnapping. He is described as standing about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing 190 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He has tattoos on both arms and was recently photographed with a goatee and mustache. It is unknown if he is armed, but authorities say he should be considered dangerous. Military-trained dad accused of killing daughters nears 3 weeks living in wilderness amid manhunt
The manhunt for the Washington father accused of killing his three young daughters has expanded as federal and state law enforcement officials continue to comb through the dense wilderness in search of the military-trained survivalist. Authorities said this week that they are combing through the Teanaway Valley and Blewett Pass areas as the search for Travis Decker continues into its third week, according to the Kittitas County Sheriff's Office. "If you have trail cameras or doorbell cameras, please check them for suspicious activity," the department said in a statement. "If you have residences in these areas, check them for anything missing – no matter how small or seemingly insignificant." The Kittitas County Sheriff's Office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment. Decker is wanted for allegedly killing his three daughters – Paityn, 9; Evelyn, 8; and Olivia, 5 – after their bodies were found near a Washington campsite earlier this month. Authorities began searching for Decker on the evening of May 30 after his ex-wife notified police that he had not returned the couple's three children from a court-mandated visitation, according to court documents. Three days later, the girls were discovered near Decker's abandoned vehicle with plastic bags over their heads and their hands bound, police said. The update comes one week after the Chelan County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) announced a group of hikers reported seeing a lone individual who appeared unprepared for the wilderness near Colchuck Lake. When authorities responded to the tip, they "spotted a lone, off-trail hiker from a helicopter," adding the individual "ran from sight as the helicopter passed," CCSO previously said in a press release. The lake is located approximately 40 miles from Blewett Pass and 60 miles from Teanaway Valley by car. A new flyer depicting renderings of ways Decker may have changed his physical appearance was released by authorities on Tuesday. The updated poster includes photos of Decker with and without facial hair and wearing a baseball hat. Officials also quashed a TikTok video reportedly showing CCSO Sheriff Mike Morrison announcing Decker's arrest after a long standoff. "To be clear, Mr. Decker is not in custody and CCSO had no part in making the video," the department wrote in a Facebook post. The U.S. Marshals Service has taken on the role of lead agency in the hunt for Decker, who is a former member of the military with extensive experience in wilderness survival. The Washington National Guard is also assisting local law enforcement with aerial search efforts and surveillance. Officials warn that Decker is considered armed and dangerous but do not have reason to believe he is a threat to public safety. The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to Decker's arrest. He is charged with three counts of aggravated first-degree murder and kidnapping.
